So I've seen this comparison between these two bands for like the third time now; so obv time a for a poll. ---- No really: This is song is great, I like it quite a bit and to me it sounds like Queen. It sounded like a cheap Queen cover band with African tribal rhythms and keys. And it's not just on here either. Seen it on facebook and such too.

fun. may be the greatest band out there today, but Queen are legends... Influential in every way possible, and they've stood the test of time.

I haven't even heard any other songs by fun. yet, so it would be unfair to vote at this point...
but, come on, I doubt any of their tracks stand up to those Queen classics.

I'd rather not state the obvious answers.

Actually "Some Nights" also bears a striking resemblance to Simon and Garfunkel's 1970 hit "Cecelia" in places, as well as Paul Simon's African influenced 80's album 'Graceland."
fun. has admitted that Paul Simon was an influence on that particular song.
fun. lists a number of influences for their music. Among them Queen; ELO; and a number of other 70's era synth pop/rock bands and artists.
All three of them also admit to being fans of the Beatles as well.

All three of them admit to being Beatles fans as well. lmao Is there something funny about that? I heard them say it in an interview. Sounds to me like they know GOOD music when they hear it.

Let's be honest, pretty much everyone says they are Beatles fans.

I heard the comparison when I first heard the album's opening tracks. I think they already remind me more of Mika (another guy with a Queen comparison) than Queen, oddly enough. If that even makes sense.
While I can appreciate Queen's style, they have some of the songs I absolutely hate the most. We Will Rock You and Another One Bites The Dust I can't stand at all. Meanwhile, I absolutely love Bohemian Rhapsody and like a few of their others like Radio Ga Ga and Fat Bottom Girls. For the purposes of this poll, I voted for fun's songs twice and BR as my third.

The Beatles are boring has beens. Oh, but Queen for all. Well that's certainly an opinion. Thankfully, not one shared by most music fans and critics. Outside this board anyway. By the way, where do you think Queen would be if the Beatles hadn't come before them?

^I agree that The Beatles were overrated, but what successful and influential act hasn't been considered overrated (other than Rihanna)?

And there are also people today who think Queen were overrated.
And there will be people in the future who think Coldplay and Mariah and Gaga are overrated.
I personally think Adele is very overrated.
And so it goes.

^I agree that The Beatles were overrated They most certainly were not overrated during their time; their success was very well founded. However the issue comes from those who treat them as simply untouchable today. My main feeling is that songs of today can very well compete with songs of the past. "Oh it's Beatles, no one today can ever have a song that is better than any song of there's because it's the Beatles!" I also feel most Queen songs have held up better over time than most Beatles songs. But that isn't to say I feel Queen's songs are untouchable either.

I know not at their time, but now, they are IMHO. I cannot stand people that can't realize that not everyone has to like them. I am a fan of The Beatles, but why anyone would ever say music today (i.e. Nicki Minaj) is trash is beyond me. She's not even competing for the same audience nor is she even the same genre. As far as the Beatles go though, their songwriting was excellent and I'm sure they would sound better if their music was made in the studios of today.

Maybe Queen's music seems to hold up better because Queen was a whole decade further ahead in time than the Beatles? Just a thought. But again, where would Queen be if the Beatles hadn't preceeded them? Where would ELO be? They openly admitted they were very strongly Beatles influenced in their music. For that matter, where would the Beatles themselves have been without Elvis? Or Carl Perkins? Or Little Richard? Or Buddy Holly? All I'm saying is that it's all well and good to dislike the Beatles or to think they are overrated. I don't agree, but then again I'm a Beatles fan. But to say that and then say that you like other groups and artists that came after them that were so clearly influenced by them, sometimes very obviously, seems just a bit disingenuious to me.

For your first thought: I also feel Elvis' music stands up better than The Beatles' music does as well. But I was trying to keep things within the scope of who was already discussed. But that all mostly comes down to personal preference and that was just a separate thought at the end. The Beatles should of course be respected and recognised for what they influenced and allowed to flourish; but that doesn't mean I must like their music in order to like what they influenced. There are a lot of cuisines that are known to be influenced from others; but I'm fully able to enjoy a food and not enjoy the food that influenced it.
