01. "The Way That You Love Me" 02. "Knocked Out" 03. "Opposites Attract" [with The Wild Pair] 04. "State of Attraction" 05. "I Need You" 06. "Forever Your Girl" 07. "Straight Up" 08. "Next to You" 09. "Cold Hearted" 10. "One or the Other" Paula Abdul's debut album was released in the summer of 1988, but took 64 weeks to climb to the top of Billboard's Top 200. It wasn't until its fifth single "Cold Hearted" reached #1 on the Hot 100 that Forever Your Girl would see its chart peak. As one of Virgin Records America's first releases, the album featured established producers Glen Ballard, L.A. Reid, and Babyface. "Knocked Out", the album's first single, only reached #41 on the Hot 100. "The Way That You Love Me" received a remix treatment for its single release, but stalled at #88. The album's third single "Straight Up" brought Paula widespread public attention, reaching #1 on the Hot 100 while Forever Your Girl was pushed into the Top 20. The album's title track also reached #1 on the Hot 100, and its fifth single "Cold Hearted" followed suit. Due in part to MTV's power rotation of the controversial video, "Cold Hearted" spent two months in the Top Ten. "The Way That You Love Me" was re-released (in its original form) following the album's ascent to the top of Billboard's Top 200 chart, and peaked at #3. The album's sixth and final single "Opposites Attract" gave Forever Your Girl its fourth #1 hit, thanks to MC Skat Kat and his Grammy award-winning video. By the end of its run, the album made Paula the fourth artist (following Whitney Houston, George Michael, and Michael Jackson) to have four #1 singles from one album. Forever Your Girl has sold over 12 million copies worldwide, and is currently certified 7x Platinum in the United States.

I feel like a goon for loving "Next To You" as much as I do, but whatever I think it's her most underrated song even with how cheesy it is.
Anyways, "Knocked Out" is definitely my favorite of the singles she released off FYG and I pretty much love every song off the album save "One or The Other". Then again with in mind though? Even that isn't dire enough to be skipped over so much. I like this album quite a bit to say the least.

This is such a spectacular pop album. I love the original album cut (and video version) of Knocked Out, but I'm not a big fan of the single version.

Great set of singles but the rest is album filler to me. But with an album that short, it's not a huge gripe. The same could be said about True Blue.
Overall, I prefer Spellbound. Both albums have aged pretty poorly but the second album is more diverse and fun to listen to as an album. Head Over Heals- I've only listened to that two or three times and it was largely album filler just without the hot singles (aside from "My Love is For Real" which is one of her finest moments).

I love love LOVE most of Forever Your Girl. "Next to You" is the only album track I absolutely cannot stand, and "Cold Hearted" does next to nothing for me. "One or the Other" is cute enough but if I'm skipping the two songs before it, I figure I might as well just stop listening after "Straight Up" and just pretend it ends there. It's just healthier that way, I guess.

I had (have?) the vinyl album. She was a favorite of mine around that time.
I liked "Next to You"- it was cheesy, sure, but a guilty pleasure.

I bought this album from a resale shop recently. The singles were good and I liked the Jesse Johnson track "I Need You"

Great dance-pop album. A few filler tracks, but even they're enjoyable. I don't like either of her subsequent albums nearly as much.

Aside from Knocked Out and Straight Up (which wasn't even really changed), I prefer the single versions that appeared on her GH sets rather than the ones that show up here. As far as the album tracks are concerned, I've always had a soft spot for I Need You, especially the sax.
Her sophomore set was much stronger imo.

I prefer Spellbound to this album But singles from it are just great and enjoy listening to them! Not to mention that for me Cold Hearted is her best video!

I just listened to this album for the first time ever, today. It's a fantastic album! I didn't realize how good it was and how many hits were actually on this one. I knew most of the singles, but have never listened to the album as a whole. I do prefer the single versions but the album versions are still pretty damn good. Her voice isn't the greatest, but the production is top notch.
I think my favourites are "The Way That you Love Me" and "Opposites Attract".
I need to give Spellbound a listen.

I wish I had gotten this album as a kid. I was listening to the album for the first time three years ago, and it suddenly became addicting like how I got addicted to Janet's Control and MJ's Thriller albums. I love Knocked Out, I Need You, and One or the Other. Those songs made me feel like a kid again! Cold Hearted was my go to song.

I really like the singles from the album, with Cold hearted at the front. But must say I also looove Shut up and dance remixes.
