Now until the Superbowl, including the holidays, the album should be around the 1.65M mark, and DH and Roar should be very close to 6M. Both Birthday and TIHWD should pass 700K.
I still think Unconditionally was the root cause of the big mess, as Dark Horse was never planned as any single. The GP chose it. So many people put the blame on Birthday, but I think not releasing LL as the 2nd single, before any pre-release tracks, was the biggest mistake. I don't think DH would've just chosen itself had she released it.
At the very worst, make it 3rd. Make Birthday 4th (with a good video), and then WOA 5th.
It honestly could've rivaled Teenage Dream.

I honestly don't think the quality of songs is there. Prism is a pale version 2 of TD. Most of the songs are just nice, whereas the 4 first singles of TD are overall superior to anything on Prism

I've never been overly hot on Legendary Lovers, but I don't see why that or Walking on Air wasn't the fourth single.
The death for Katy this era is when she does generic. The public isn't here for it.
Roar is that rare thing of being both cliche'd and yet the hook was so good and it was so catchy and her first single (along with the empowering lyrics) that it dominated. But Dark Horse dominated, and people weren't here for the pleasant-but-forgettable Birthday and This Is How We Do. I love Birthday, but, especially with This Is How We Do, what was the point? We all know Katy does a catchy pop song.
I literally cannot get over the selection of This Is How We Do. It's like they just went "Oh, look, a summery catchy song to fit the summer! Let's release it!" Absolutely no thought put into it beyond that, and it deserved to underperform more than Unconditionally. There was not a shred side new to Katy shown with that release, lyrically, musically, sonically, absolutely anything. For a fourth single, why not release something that would grab peoples' attention, or gee, why not for the FIFTH single? She's almost *thirty*, doesn't she have the cajones to release the *slightly* more experimental stuff instead of the *completely* obvious stuff?
So dumb. You can tell they took for granted the longevity of the project. They just naturally assumed they could throw out radio bait and Prism would just keep churning, but because of the Birthday and This Is How We Do misstep, whatever they release next isn't going to do as well as it could've.
I'm not one to typically deride single choices just because they underperform. What ticks me off is that they threw generic mediocre radio crap out there when Katy Perry is already so established musically, the album already had two gangbuster singles, that what on earth was the necessity to try and play it so safe?
Big misstep there, imo. It backfired. Katy Perry is already one of the more generic popstars of the past era. She doesn't need to release generic singles as well, especially when she has the material to not do so.
This is why even though I don't own as much of her material or connect with her music as much, Rihanna is a much better pop star than Katy. She's willing to totally throw out different stuff, even if it doesn't do well. It keeps the public totally interested in what she's going to do next, it allows her to take more risks ironically lessening the damage from flops, and it shows that she's more secure in her artistry.

Katy Perry is the only female pop star to have cuts off her album continuously on the charts. Unconditionally, Birthday and TIHYD all have had airplay and all have hung around at radio while DH and even Roar have been on. This is a very good performance. Not all songs can go to #1 and it's good they don't since that would mean less songs. Katy will have a new single at radio soon and thus more airplay. She is talented and her record co knows what they are doing. Prism will sell week after week. During the next several weeks the Christmas stuff will take over the Top 200 so Prism will likely fall out to make room for all the Christmas stuff but Prism will pop back in Jan!!!!!! Great album and great singer!

She's in the studio. I bet the new single would be from the re-release and just in time for SuperBowl performance

The root of her current problems was the video for Birthday. Nobody was here for that mess. Katy is a visual artist, and they throw together some craptastic 8 minute cell phone video that made zero sense with the song? She was coming off one of the biggest hits of the year with a massively viewed video and then look at her views for Birthday...The freaking lyric video has over 20 million more views than the real video. Birthday killed any momentum she had after Dark Horse.

LOL. I LOVE Birthday. Those characters made me laugh, especially the Paris Hilton one. It was not as amazing as Dark Horse but I liked it more than Roar. I also liked TIHWD way more than the song itself and the Unconditionally video was very pretty.

You said "Cell Phone Video" I'm always ready for more Katy. Her record label was most likely not expecting the singles after DH to peak at thier certain postions. That's probably why they released song after song to see if something would stick. Power of the Horse.

TIHWD is my favorite video of the year; should've been a summertime smash had they set things up properly.

Last night at work (big gay night club) I heard 3 Katy songs: Firework, Dark Horse, and Legendary Lovers. It sounded so fantastic in that type of scene. A lot of people knew the words too. Such a shame.

So LL a go? I mean there's only three months before SB and I'd think they want to get this going before Black Friday to get those Prism sales going before Xmas. I imagine she will launch a new single at the Super Bowl (like POM) - why wouldn't they?

Last night at work (big gay night club) I heard 3 Katy songs Do you work at a big gay nightclub, or is "work" the name of the club? Both seem highly probable.

Have we gotten the latest spin #'s for pop radio. Dark Horse should pretty much be a lock for the top song of the year, right?

I really thought they'd push a single out for 4Q. Guess they are saving it for Feb. 1 (SB). Odd to just skip LL or even WOA.

The album still holds up a year later. It sounds better when I take a break from it for a while. It starts to grate on the ears if I play it too much but overall the only song I could do 100% without is "This Moment".

PRISM is my all time favorite Katy album. It had huge expectations because of the remarkable success of TD. Legendary Lovers , the video and of course the Super Bowl will keep the album going strong. Extremely proud of this era.

She's touring Australia/NZ until late december, and then I'm guessing going into rehearsals for the SB.

Katy is having some serious drama with the paparazzi in Australia. She dragged them on Twitter yesterday.
And then this happened.
She is entering the messy territory that only Rihanna has dared to enter into.
