I honestly still can't find the date rape thing in this song. Was a bop still. It's the I know you want it refrain.

I've enjoyed Robin's music throughout the years, although I've yet to hear his latest two ("Blurred Lines" "Paula") albums. I liked "Blurred Lines" up until radio played it to death (like they always do), plus "Give It 2 U."
I had hoped he & Paula would've had a happy marriage, but I guess perhaps all those rumors (drugs, alcohol) were true, and I guess that's just how it is in the entertainment industry.
Not sure if all this drama (2013-2014) is gonna affect me being able to listen to his music (previous & future), but I do wish him the best and that he gets the help (therapy, AA, etc) that he needs, especially to be there for his son as he grows up.

Shady writing/publishing credits have always been a part of the industry in one way or another, and will continue to be just because it's so easy to arrange in advance whose names go where. Exactly. I think that whole testimony was funny as heck and also sad as heck. I have always thought that Robin was a douche. He was just a drunk douche and didn't settle out of court with the Gaye family so he deserves what's coming to light now. This does go on all the time but he got caught taking credit for something he didn't write. The song is horrible anyway but Pharrell also doesn't come out in a very good light either.

Such a effing mess. It didn't have to be this way. I've heard the whole Sam Smith/Tom Petty thing was settled out of court. Quickly and quietly. I just read your post. I couldn't agree more. I hope the Gaye family now gets a nice tidy sum. You know Pharrell was influenced by Marvin's song and should have given credit to the original writers, too. This is no different than that Rixton hit where they were "influenced" by Rob Thomas' Lonely No More. They knew they ripped the melody so they came out and gave him credit before there was a big mess. This should have been handled much more smartly than it was.

To be fair they offered to settle last summer but the estate declined and pressed forward with the lawsuit. The proposed settlement amount wasn't disclosed so the estate could have been low balled. Interesting...a little too late probably.

It's the I know you want it refrain. Yep, exactly it. Which is really interesting to consider now that the all-female "Bang Bang" has that exact same riff as part of its song. Not saying that makes Robin's song any less 'rapey' but I recall now why I kind of had an issue with that criticism - if Blurred Lines is misogynistic then so are a lot of hits. Female sexuality as an objectified commodity has always been a problem, and songs by women are often no better when it comes to that stereotype (E.T. for example was a borderline rape fantasy and Kanye's verse on the remix pushed it over the edge). I dunno, it just bothers me that people get selectively outraged...I don't feel like all those upset people had a genuine interest in moving our society away from its collectively sexist mindset. I'm also still moderately convinced Robin pissed off the wrong person with his douchiness and became the industry fall guy. Of course, b/c of said douchiness I hardly expect anyone to feel sorry for him if that is the case. He should have taken a two year hiatus as soon as Blurred Lines died down.

Yeah I mean I think Sam Smith and his camp tried to get away with it, but after they were quietly busted they quietly dealt with it.

I have a couple of Robin Thicke albums but I never got "Blurred Lines"… something about it seemed real fishy to me right from the start!

Stans probably trying to sweep the whole flop under the rug and pretend it never happened lol.

HAHAHAHAHA at the idea of Pulse having even one Robin stan, never mind in plural form. dude's been taking an unanimous beating. there is a thread for Paula, Duca just bumped this thread b/c of the article about the lawsuit.
