I love your chart, it definitely defines that Demi is your fav artist.
I found an error, on your first chart, I Won't Give Up had peaked at the time at 37, but it says 39.

And ah thanks. There's errors and inconsistencies all over. I've edited chart runs due to changing criteria, etc. so nothing's extremely accurate anymore, and I'm sure there's numerous errors like that one.

Nope. And nowhere unfortunately. In November, I had a major hard drive crash in which all of my files were lost, including my charts up until that point. The only reason I still have the August-November charts is because they're on Pulse

Just wanted to let you know, I found a rather big error, in the first chart in the last week column, it says No Lie was at 40 the previous week, it also says Can't Stop Me had dropped out from #40, so I'm thinking that one of them was meant to be at #38, as there is no previous week #38 posted on the chart.

-OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" holds at #1 for the second week. It is the first #1 to last more than one week since Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack", and one of only six this whole year.
-Labrinth's "Beneath Your Beautiful", featuring Emeli Sandé, rises 5-2, and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines", featuring T.I. & Pharrell, rises 6-3. They are easily the biggest hits for all artists involved. Will one of them reach #1 next week?
-Nikki Williams' "Glowing" rises 8-5 to become her first Top 5 hit. She also technically reached the Top 5 for co-writing Demi Lovato's #1 smash "Heart Attack".
-Speaking of Demi, her "I Hate You, Don't Leave Me" rises 20-8. It is now the second biggest album track from DEMI, behind "Something That We're Not" (#3). Next week, I'll include last week and peak information for this extra chart. Nothing on this will count towards regular chart performance. I will post this in the form of a Google Doc.

Great Chart, not one song I don't like on it, I think that Dear Darlin', Live For The Night, Holy Grail & Keep Me Crazy should hit your chart though , that would make it even better imo. Also, if you haven't heard it I think you should listen to Don't Mind If I Do by Chris Wallace & Young Girls by Bruno Mars, both songs imo are excellent.

I thought of another recommendation, Fly Again (Broken Wings) by Danny Fernandes, also if you still haven't heard Tino Coury's song Diary, than you should listen to it, I think you would like that one. ;) Also, I'll take a guess as to which song will crack the chart next week, I'll go with Holy Grail.

I'll try and explain. Disclaimer: everything in this post is my personal opinion. I'm putting this here so I don't have to keep repeating it.

They're both completely watered-down productions that are so generic and predictable. You know all those generic dance pop tracks on CHR from the likes of Flo Rida, will.i.am, Ke$ha and whatnot that always get the same "it's not 2010 anymore!!!1" reaction? "This Is What It Feels Like" and "Reload" are the dance music equivalent of those, but apparently they get a free pass because dance hasn't been as overexposed as dance pop was. That annoys me greatly. But of course, generic ≠ bad. There are plenty of generic-sounding tracks that are able to still sound great or even give a bit of a new flare to a far-too-familiar sound. Refer to "Don't You Worry Child" as a good example of that. But these two songs: no. I'll tackle them separately.

"Reload" desperately tries to be "Don't You Worry Child". Not only do they both have the same vocalist and almost the same artist/producer, but they both follow the exact same structure and formula. First verse with softer production that crescendoes up to the vocal pre-chorus, and then the big beat drop. One round of that and it comes back around for a second time with the vocal hook sung over it. Music fades back for the second verse and starts soft, slowly increasing up through the pre-chorus and beat drop. (Familiar much? These producers should take notes from Zedd's "Spectrum".) The beat drop continues for a few rounds then fades and the track ends. Unsurprisingly, both tracks are almost exactly the same length (in the radio edits at least, that is). So yeah, same formula! But "Reload" misses a few crucial elements that made "Don't You Worry Child" so great.

For one thing, there's the lyrics. Both tracks attempt to be 'uplifting' in their lyrics, so there's another big similarity! But "Don't You Worry Child"'s lyrics are well-written, in fact well-written enough that they translate well to an acoustic setting too, which is something not many dance tracks can do (as much as I love picking on "Clarity", it's definitely one). "Reload" barely has any lyrics. It has two verses with like four lines each, and the rest of the song is comprised of "take my hand and reload, this is free love, that's what we are made of". Repetitive much! "Don't You Worry Child"'s chorus might be on par with "Reload"'s in terms of 'meatiness' (and that only, as "Don't You Worry Child" has a much, much stronger vocal hook), but you could cram all of "Reload"'s lyrics into one verse of "Don't You Worry Child". And really, "Reload"'s lyrics have next to nothing in them. "Don't You Worry Child" managed to be relatable, which definitely helped with its mass appeal. "Reload" on the other hand? What does 'reload' even mean? That's a rhetorical question, but still, it almost feels like one of those songs constructed around its title, instead of the title being taken from the lyrics. It feels like 'reload' was thrown into there as it's a simple, snappy title that people can easily remember. Also on the topic of the lyrics, I love that both verses begin with 'there was a time'. It's not a big thing at all, but I love that it connects the verses by another level, and I also think also sets the mood well. "Reload" can't claim that either.

There's also a few details in the structure. "Don't You Worry Child" starts off with a big start with a toned down version of the beat drop/instrumental hook/whatever it should be called; "Reload" starts off small and takes a while to get into its hook, which just makes it a bit boring, and all the more disappointing when it eventually gets there. "Don't You Worry Child"'s second vocal chorus (around 2:25 in the song) is different to the first and switching things up is a great thing! (See Zedd's "Spectrum".) "Reload" doesn't manage to do that, with the second build-up/vocal chorus/beat drop being almost identical to the first.

Then there's also what might be the biggest thing to me personally. "Don't You Worry Child" has this amazing euphoria that perfectly matches the theme of the lyrics. "Reload" attempts that but, for me, fails completely. All I feel listening to "Reload", even when I skip to the chorus, is bored. Bored by the predictability and it being an utter failure of a carbon copy. I get no euphoria or any slight enjoyment out of it.

I'll admit here that quite a bit of my criticism towards "Reload" is related to "Don't You Worry Child" and that's not a good way of judging a song, but it really is hard to avoid comparing songs - any songs, not just these - to other tracks, especially when the similarity is so glaringly obvious.

Now for "This Is What It Feels Like". Unlike "Reload"/"Don't You Worry Child", I don't have a direct comparison for "This Is What It Feels Like", which helps put it slightly ahead of "Reload" for me. I found the other day that my closest match for "This Is What It Feels Like" is David Guetta's "Without You", but unlike "Don't You Worry Child" that's not a track I was overly positive about in the first place. But don't try and take this as a defence for "This Is What It Feels Like"; I still don't find it any less generic. In fact I can heavily compare it to "Don't You Worry Child" quite a bit even.

What I hate most about "This Is What It Feels Like" is the beat drop bit. I actually don't mind the beginning of the track; it starts off as just another average track as opposed of something I hate. The melody is alright - not great, but I don't mind it. But then it starts building and naturally you'd expect it to build up to something great, but then you hit 1:03 and that manages to make Ne-Yo's "Let Me Love You" sound energetic and lively. It's just the most boring, dull, lifeless breakdown possible, of course topped with some Maroon 5-esque 'oh's - not because they add anything to the track, but because it hates you. (I really wonder why an album with "This Is What It Feels Like" on it is called Intense.) And that excruciatingly dull breakdown really brings the track down to hell for me. I love dance music, but I really can't stand when it's watered down so much to try and appeal to the mainstream, especially nowadays when more innovative dance or dance-based tracks are able to hit big, even in the US. What I mean by that is that if things like this were the only way to get dance music onto the charts, maybe I'd excuse it, but there really is no reason to sink to this level of doom. (Note: I'm going on the assumption that Armin's back catalogue has a fair amount of better, more original in there, an assumption I've formed as I refuse to believe that he could have made a huge career out of this kind of crap. I know I should give his stuff a try to form a better judgement but I really have no motivation!)

I think that covers mostly everything about the tracks, except for one element that's much more crucial than I'd like to admit: the songs' commercial success. Particularly that of "This Is What It Feels Like", here in Australia. There have been so many great UK dance hits this year, and while some of them have done well here, many failed to do so. Most likely due to them not being promoted here, but still. So back in May while Duke Dumont's masterpiece was struggling to crack the top 50 (it eventually did but failed to make past #40), Armin's generic crap comes in and shoots up to the top 20. Obviously that made me very pressed. I already didn't care for the song, but that really made it worse for me. Thankfully "Reload" hasn't done too well, but it's still sitting at #33 which is at least 18 spots too high for my liking. And yeah, I know it's awful to factor chart performance into my opinions on songs, and I do try not to, but these two tracks are just such a waste of space on the charts. Even in the UK where the UK dance hits I referred to obviously were hits, they're still hogging space that could be given to much better tracks.

So to sum all that up, I hate "This Is What It Feels Like" and "Reload" because they're generic to the moon and back and so predictable that it puts me to sleep, and because they're getting far more praise and success than they deserve, and "Reload" has the bonus of being stuck in a much better track's shadow. Hope this answers everything! As you can surely tell I'm not good at writing out my thoughts on songs, but I tried. :) And spent an hour and 44 minutes on it according to the timestamp from when I loaded this page. Damn.

Anyway, that actually explained it pretty well. And I do see what you mean, and kind of agree with you. I just went and listened to "Don't You Worry Child" and "Reload" back to back, and I definitely see some of the flaws you pointed out. And I have no problem with commercial success being one of the reasons you hate them. I feel that way towards quite a few songs too.

Sorry but I am still going to chart both songs. However, that definitely did affect my opinion and I doubt they're going to peak nearly as high now. way to ruin them for me bitch

I much prefer the instrumental version of Reload on SHM's album (said album is a mess to try to tag correctly so I just gave up on that), but I never really noticed the similarities with DYWC. There are definitely better songs on the album (with the 300 producers and vocalists involved in them). But I do like it.

Still can't stand "This Is What A Guetta Song Sounds Like", especially since Trevor is Canadian, so it's CanCon and played all the time here

I'd have to say same thing as nick64 said as far as I was not expecting you to type that big of an essay on it, but it did totally reload my opinion on Reload, I knew from the beginning, it was pretty much a rip-off, but with the details you typed, I could tell that it wasn't really thought out very well, I think that John Martin needs to release a single on his own honestly. You may think you're not good at writing your thoughts on songs, but I think you're very good at it, what you just wrote is very powerful in influencing my overall likes of either song. :o :)

Thanks! I would make a Top 200 video, but that's waaay too much work lol. 100 takes long enough lol Maybe when I do my year-end chart, I could make multiple 100-song videos in order to encompass everything throughout the year (?)
