Another great song by Rihanna that could be this year's "S.O.S" (that is if "Cupid's Chokehold" wasn't it! ). I think this has a much better shot at the top 20 than "Umbrella" has (up to #58 today).

IMO this will be played on nearly every Hot AC station so it will get even more airplay than S. O. S. did BTW, "S. O. S." and "Cupid's Chokehold"? Can't see the similarity :)

This is a great summertime song, and it deserves to be a big hit at Hot AC. The trouble is, it takes so long for songs to climb on the Hot AC chart sometimes (unless you are Matchbox Twenty or Kelly Clarkson) that this song may not peak until the beginning of the winter!

Gotcha - never would've thought of that connection :) I def. think "Shut Up And Drive" will hit the Hot AC Top 10 - surprised that "S. O. S." didn't hit the Top 10 - seems like tons of Hot AC stations play it as a recurrent - I think a lot of stations didn't start playing "S. O. S." til way after it peaked

I don't think this will hit the top 10. Just my prediction, but this will peak at #18. :)

^ Not sure where I got the number from, but S.O.S. peaked at #17 I think, and I can't see this being bigger than that, so one spot lower seems like a good guess for me to have. :)

Hot AC will be stacked with Daughtry, Matchbox Twenty, Lifehouse, Maroon 5, Avril Lavigne, and other Hot AC artists in the top ten.
This better not go top 20!! What does this song have to do with Hot AC?!?!?

Not sure that Maroon 5 will make it to the top 10 - I think Avril Lavigne will just brush it and then fall down pretty quickly - anyway, "Shut Up And Drive" is only +30 plays this week

Now that stations are beginning to drop "Umbrella", "Shut Up And Drive" should continue to gain in plays in the coming weeks.

What does this song have to do with Hot AC?!?!? Kid Pulse, I know you have been outspoken in recent weeks regarding pop crossover songs invading the Hot AC chart. But as I have said before, I don't think this is necessarily a bad trend. As long as Hot AC stations steer away from the hard core hip-hop and rap, I think the Hot AC format will continue to become the mainstream CHR format for those who don't like the constant barrage of rap music that the so-called "mainstream" CHR stations keep playing. Besides, Hot AC still has their share of core artists, so I don't think Hot AC is going to become dominated by pop crossovers anytime soon.

It's actually not the fact that the pop crossovers are hitting Hot AC that bugs me- it's the fact that they are pushing Hot AC artists out of the way. I don't mind Fergie or P!nk that much, but when it means that The Goo Goo Dolls and Lifehouse have to peak lower than they otherwise would, that frustrates me. Maybe my taste in music is fading, lol.

I agree with most of what you are saying, although IMO, I think the Goo Goo Dolls best days were over about five or six years ago. But that's just me. Well, maybe we can push for "Buy U A Drank" or "Party Like A Rockstar" to be added to Hot AC. Those songs should improve your taste in music!

Well, I think "Before It's Too Late" is one of thier career's best, no matter how bad they slacked off with the "Let Love In" album. I like "Party Like a Rockstar", one of my summer jams. But not the other one hahah. I have to say that "Shut Up and Drive" will chart on Hot AC, but I think you guys are thinking it will do better than it will actually end up doing

If that happens, they'll be no difference between HAC and CHR - btw there's no way that'll happen IMO :) - both these songs have really high "dislike"ratings among people over 25 (actually white people - sorry to bring this up) "Shut Up And Drive" could easily be a song by Pink, similar to "Just Like A Pill" so I don't think it's abnormal for HAC to play it

Although I think that a lot of white people felt that a rap group talking about being "rockstars" was a stupid idea (I remember my mom thought it was silly that they were rapping about being rockstars). I think some people think that the "totally dude" thing is mocking white people. Personally, I just dismiss this as the Shop Boyz having a good sense of humor. "Party Like a Rockstar" is one of few rap songs to chart on my personal chart all- ear, and (technechally) the highest-charting one of the year. As for "Buy U A Drank", that song is hideous. That song has no sense of music to it at all. I hate that song and everything in it. I think that "Shut Up and Drive" will peak around where "Umbrella" did but stick around in the top 40 untill it goes recurrent. I think it will suffer the fate that many "crossovers" to Hot AC do. Some stations will have them very high on thier playlist, while others will refuse to even add them (this is what happened to "Summer Love"). Also, some stations may add the song later than others, so it may stall out while certain stations drop it and others pick it up (I think this is what happened to "What Goes Around...Comes Around"). I do not think this song is Hot AC-friendly, and I don't think it should go top 20. Maybe you guys that are predicting a top 10 peak for this song see something in it that I don't. I think the song is utter trash. It doesn't even sound like she's saying "drive", more like she's saying "blah".

Other than "Get the Party Started" and her newest song, P!nk doesn't appeal much to me. She sounds angry and slutty at the same time in many of her songs.

Ever wonder why "Pon de Replay" didn't make any impact at Hot AC?
Even though that song is more club-oriented, I think it could have been more Hot AC friendly than her latest song.

No way man - "Shut Up And Drive" is rock, like Pink's "Just Like A Pill" (sorry I might have written that already) "Pon De Replay" is dance/R&B...and Madonna's "Music" had almost idential lyrics so I don't think HAC needed another song about the D. J. turning the music up :)

J. turning the music up :) I don't know about that - being that the 2 songs came 5 years apart from each other. Not too many Hot ACs are spinning "Music" as a recurrent either. "Pon de Replay" had much more appeal to me than "Shut Up and Drive; and I'm classified as a died-in-the-wool Hot AC listener.

Actually "Music" by Madonna is recurrent in a lot of HAC stations I've heard (maybe it's an east coast thing) :) IMO if a HAC listener wanted to hear a song about the D. J. turnin up the music they would much rather listen to "Music" (which they're already familiar with) than "Pon De Replay" (which sounds really urban/R&B)
