If he NEEDS suggestions, then he shouldn't be voting at all. A knowledgeable music person should be able to select a number of those artists on that list based on their own personal criteria without needing help from anyone else. It's a great list this year. I don't think he was seriously asking. He's a well-known music writer (editor for Rolling Stone, writes for the Grammy Awards). He actually wrote for the America: A Tribute to Heroes special where Mariah performed, so I hope that connection helps her get his vote! I wish Mariah would’ve promised to release her secret rock album (original vocals only), if she were inducted. I bet it would’ve garnered interest and votes. More so releasing it now during the voting period would have helped since a lot of people still cling to this "She's not rock!" crap.\ Meanwhile this is interesting: Please note Smith also has a Mariah chapter in her book, so she could be behind helping Mariah get nominated as well. I think Mariah now has a few champions on the committee. While it changes every year, I believe people like Pharrell and Questlove have been on it very recently. They don't announce who was all on it until the ceremony actually happens.

Oh look, a white guy where 6 of 7 picks are white.
The love for Oasis is baffling to me, and I can only attribute it to them being white guys with guitars. They were literally successful for like a 3 year period, and they had very little actual influence on music. I agree they made a few classic singles, but so has a lot of acts. Voting for a 2-3 hit 1990s nostalgia act over women who had hits and influence across decades is just so obviously misogynist.

I've seen several ballots similar like that. I still think it's odd that "Future Rock Legends" are encouraging voters to post their selections on Twitter.
Also, if you read the comments on Twitter people are STILL saying that most of the nominees are not ROCK not understanding the criteria. It's exasperating how ignorant and uninformed the artists and the public is about the qualifications.
Some of these people shouldn't have rights to vote.

Note: We just saw Dionne Warwick perform in Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday night. Alas, this means she probably, won't be inducted in the performer category.
And the inductees are...
Performers Mary J. Blige Cher Foreigner Peter Frampton Kool & the Gang Ozzy Osbourne Dave Matthews Band A Tribe Called Quest
Musical Excellence Jimmy Buffet MC5 Dionne Warwick Norman Whitfield Alexis Korner
Musical Influence John Mayall Big Mama Thornton
Non-Performer Suzanne de Passe

Ugh disappointed Mariah wasn't inducted. :( I was really hoping for Mary J. and Mariah to be inducted but that was probably too good to be true. Happy for Mary J but hope Mariah can get her induction in the near future.

They have no credibility when it took Dionne and Cher this long.
Mariah is a music hall of Fame her catalog, accomplishments and career and talent speaks for itself . She needs no validation from washed up old ass geezers who hate feminine diva energy.
Shell get it eventually but will it matter one way or other.

While I enjoy both artists, I am surprised that if one was going to make it, MJB did over MC lol. Maybe her recent SB Halftime and album made people think of her ? And Mariah is just seen now as "Christmas" ?

And Mariah is just seen now as "Christmas" ? Mary is considered the queen of Hip Hop Soul . she is probably considered more an innovator than Mariah who some might say followed trends . i think they both should be in there but that is my guess.

Cher first recorded in 1963 so it took over 60 years. Sort of sad. Sure, hope female artists are treated better in the future. Mariah will get in. Mariah's career began in 1990, so if we applied the CHER rule, Mariah would get in, in 27 years. Male artists do not have to wait as long, so hopefully female artists will finally get in equally as deserved and merited.

^Can't look at it as taking 60 years, though Acts become eligible 25 years after their first recording; Cher's first recording as Cher was 1965, so she's been eligible for 33 years or so.
