I think Rob will hold the top spot, but Kimberely Locke could hit #1 with "Up on the Housetop." Not on the R&R panel. They remove the all-Christmas stations, and just did so again this morning. Now, Kimberley Locke is not even in the top 20 on AC. She is #1 though on the a1M chart (which counts the all Christmas stations).

So they count all the stations that switch to Christmas music over the week until Saturday and remove them? Or maybe they do it more often, because I noticed "Up On The Housetop" moving up the chart and disappearing over the past few weeks and knew that something didn't add up. Thanks for clarifying that.
As for the ongoing Rob Thomas/Lifehouse battle, the latter is now eleven spins behind the former. I wonder if they'll take over by tomorrow's update. That would be neat, to start out the 2006 chart year with a fresh new supply of number one songs instead of having Rob Thomas still holding the top spot nearly a year after being released. (Note that I just wanted Rob Thomas to be number one for the December 2 chart so a new record would be set; now it's time for him to clear out and give someone else a chance!)
But who knows, maybe Santana and Michelle Branch could beat Lifehouse to the top spot. This week they make a healthy 10-4 leap and lose less plays than any other song in the Top Ten (since more and more AC stations are flipping to Christmas, there are no play gains to speak of, so you have to go by the song that loses the least number of spins) Will this be a repeat of 2003, with Santana and Michelle becoming the number one song of the entire year? We'll find out in about a year. Either way, I have a feeling that the Santana/Michelle collaboration will be one of 2006's number one songs, along with Lifehouse (they'll eventually sneak in there sooner or later, I'm pretty sure). Perhaps 2006 will have more number one songs than 2005. Well, we can always dream, anyway!

The invasion of the Christmas music on the chart is quite fun to watch.
I sure hope Santana and Michelle Branch don't reach #1... what a bore. But with the lack of any real contenders near the top (not counting the repeat #1s), it is likely. I'm not optimistic next year will be any different in terms of chart movement.

Yeah, I'm already starting to get tired of "I'm Feeling You" also. It's not quite as good a song as "The Game Of Love", a song that I never got sick of (probably because I didn't usually listen to AC radio, except for the countdowns).

Wow! Kimberley Locke is number one (on the Monday morning update). She won't stay there, however; I expect that by this afternoon, they'll remove all the stations playing Christmas music (I guess they automatically get back onto the panel on Monday morning and they keep having to remove them, because now, nearly half of the chart is Christmas songs.

You're looking at the A1M chart; right now she's #20 on the one R&R uses (and was #20 at the final update last night too).

Wups, my bad! I guess I absentmindedly logged onto allaccess.com looking for the AC chart. Looks like "You And Me" may not top the chart until after the new year.

Of course, Rob's lead over them had been erratically decreasing and increasing when he was still at number one. That means that he could easily swing back around and grab the top spot.

BILLBOARD - CHARTBEAT December 08, 2005, 11:45 AM ET Fred Bronson
HOME RUN FOR ‘HOUSETOP': As predicted here last week, there is a new No. 1 song on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Kimberley Locke's seasonal "Up on the Housetop" (Curb) advances 5-1 in its third chart week, becoming the fifth song in the history of this chart to reach the top in just three weeks.
Four of the five songs that have raced to pole position in three weeks are holiday tunes. The exception is Bob Carlisle's "Butterfly Kisses," which flew to No. 1 the week of May 24, 1997. The other songs that rushed to No. 1 before "Housetop" are NewSong's "The Christmas Shoes" (Jan. 6, 2001), Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" (Dec. 28, 2002) and Groban's "Believe" (Dec. 11, 2004).
"Housetop" is the first No. 1 for the Curb label in eight years. LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live" began an 11-week reign on the chart dated Sept. 6, 1997.
This is Locke's first AC No. 1, after peaking at No. 6 with "8th World Wonder" and No. 8 with "I Could." It's her third No. 1 in Billboard, following chart-topping success with "8th World Wonder" on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales and Hot Dance Singles Sales charts.
"Housetop" is only the fourth song to advance to No. 1 on the AC tally in 2005. The four songs that have ruled the AC list this calendar year are:
"Breakaway," Kelly Clarkson (21 weeks) "Lonely No More," Rob Thomas (17 weeks) "Home," Michael Buble (two weeks) "Up on the Housetop," Kimberley Locke (one week to date)
That means only two female artists have been No. 1 on the AC chart in 2005, and both have been singers who first came to the public's attention when they competed on "American Idol."
Counting all charts compiled by the Billboard Information Group, this is the 80th No. 1 for the "American Idol" franchise. Eleven different solo contestants have reached the No. 1 spot on a Billboard chart, along with season ensembles. The breakdown is:
Kelly Clarkson, 27 Fantasia, 11 Ruben Studdard, 10 Clay Aiken, 8 Josh Gracin, 6 Carrie Underwood, 5 Kimberley Locke, 3 Bo Bice, 2 Diana DeGarmo, 1 Tamyra Gray, 1 William Hung, 1 American Idol Finalists, 5
‘DRUMMER' BEATS ALL: Kimberley Locke's "Up on the Housetop" isn't the Curb label's only holiday song making news on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart this week. "Little Drummer Boy" by Asbury Park, N.J.-based Latin rock group deSol enters the tally at No. 6. That's the highest debut in AC history, beating the record set exactly one year ago when James Taylor bowed at No. 9 with "Deck the Halls."
One major difference: "Deck the Halls" was Taylor's 35th entry on the AC survey. "Little Drummer Boy" is the first deSol title to appear on this list.
BIG 'WHEEL' KEEPS ON TURNING: The "American Idol" franchise is also doing well on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, where Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel" (Arista) is the seventh song by an "Idol" contestant to chart, and the fourth to reach the top 10.
"Jesus, Take the Wheel" drives 11-8 this week. The other three top 10 country "Idol" songs were all by Josh Gracin. "I Want to Live," "Nothin' to Lose" and "Stay With Me (Brass Bed)" all reached the top 5. "Jesus, Take the Wheel" is Underwood's third song to chart on the country tally, following "Bless the Broken Road" with Rascal Flatts and "Inside Your Heaven." The seventh "Idol" song to appear on the country survey was Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This."

Has WLTW switched to all-Christmas music yet? Yes, they did so before Thanksgiving I believe.

Well, my Jim Brickman prediction was off, but at least he's in the Top 3.

Well, most of us were wrong in our initial predictions of the #1 songs during the Christmas season. Rob Thomas held it for all but one week, when Lifehouse sneaked in a week on the last official chart of the year.
I don't think Michael Buble stands much of a chance to take back the top spot again.
