Actually, I don't think Black River wants to many more 'grizzled veterans' at this point. They have Craig for that and are in need of newer acts or acts like Love and Theft, Casey James and Kellie , still young and ready to have more hits, if the right songs come along. Note, Love and Theft and Casey James are just names of artists who COULD work at Black River. I don't know of any specific names but I do know that Black River's top priority is signing new acts, like Kelsea Ballerini and John King. I could also see them going for artists like JT Hodges, Joel Crouse, Rachel Farley and The Farm. I agree and and am confident that Black River is not really looking for veteran acts like Sara. Craig made sense at the time since they needed his name recognition to get some momentum built up with radio. They love Kellie and her music and did not want to pass up the opportunity to sign her when she left her major label. Exactly. A few acts with some other label history makes sense and all you (and I) mentioned would be good candidates. I also know they'll work hard with other newbies. It'd be interesting if they tried to follow the Granger Smith route that BBR went and go after Aaron Watson. Watson certainly is as independently minded but Black River could be a great major partner. Let him write/record what he wants and work the records to radio, a la Granger.

I think Sara could do really well at Black River as well. I think of her as a bigger name than Craig Morgan, and he has had quite a bit of success with them despite the fact that they obtained him way after his radio peak days. And they have demonstrated lately with Kelsea that they have both the ability and tenacity to get female artists played. Of course, Kellie Pickler probably has a different opinion about that... But still, Sara is already a big name, and they would just need to rejuvenate her career rather than completely build it. That being said, they already have a pretty full roster for a single label, so they probably aren't looking for anyone else to sign at the moment... I know this thread isn't the place to speculate about which labels might pick up an artist, but I just wanted to put in my two cents while the topic was broached :) I would definitely not be disappointed if Sara ended up on Nash Icon, but at the same time I would be thrilled if she lands somewhere that could potentially get her a few more top 20 hits! I have been secretly hoping Casey James would land at Black River. Seems like a great place for him! I like how they let Kellie Pickler do her thing without compromise. But I also love how they were able to launch Kellsea. That has to take some artist development. I think Casey needs a little bit of both. He's super talented and creative, I just think he needs a little mentoring from someone he really trusts has his best interests in mind. He over thinks things and second guesses himself too much. A little guidance could help him shake that and boost his confidence. He's the whole package, just not quite there yet.

Even though we know that Brett Young is a member of BMLG's artist roster (Republic Nashville), now we finally have official confirmation. As was stated in the article, Brett's debut album is being produced by Dann Huff. Music Row

I'm not sure what the definition of "still young" is for country music guys. Except that it is older than for females > Casey James appears to be going on 33 now. By the time he could get a new album out, could be 34, even 35? LnT - both guys appear to be 30-ish. Kellie is 29 (see above for females vs. guys, however) All three strike me as a stretch to have a breakout hit in their 30s when they haven't had one recently (or yet for at least one of the three).

Big Loud Records hires Stacy Blythe as new Director of National Promotion: All AccessAnother big get for Big Loud Records as Stacy was a major part of Republic Nashville's promotion department and she's had some past success a few years back with Category 5 Records (Donovan Chapman), 1720 Entertainment (Rissi Palmer) and Stoney Creek Records. I really think Big Loud Records could see success in 2016 as they are hitting home runs with every hire they make.

Very insightful article on Hits Daily Double today, where they interviewed new Sony CEO Randy Goodman and Ken Rebold (EVP/COO) and Steve Hodges (Artist Development). The article is pretty lengthy, so I only took the most interesting parts:

It makes a ton of sense and is something I can remember talking about them needing to do. In no time they'll be launching the 5th imprint (2-3 years from now).

According to the BBR website, James Wesley is once again a BBR recording artist. His picture has been re-added to the artists roster. www.bbrmusicgroup.com/

Also, Jana Kramer's new album Thirty One is being released by Warner Brothers Nashville. Does this mean she has been transferred from Elektra?

I'm glad James is still (or was re-added) to Broken Bow's roster but that was weird that he was seemingly off the roster and website for that long before being re-added. Benny Brown absolutely loves James and his music so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised he's back.

I wonder if it's only to promote his music video for Hooked Up or if this is more of a long term deal.

That's what I was thinking as well but James recorded and released that song a while ago, so putting him back on the label for a music video meant for a promotional single would be odd. Remember, they launched Wheelhouse Records today so the fact that James' picture was re-added to their website now can't be a coincidence. I think they're just getting some ducks in a row with a new imprint and made room for James again, in some capacity.

I know most don't really care about these hires but Big Loud Records has hired former New Revolution regional Dave Kirth as new Director of West Coast Promotion:

Also, Jana Kramer's new album Thirty One is being released by Warner Brothers Nashville. Does this mean she has been transferred from Elektra? Elektra is just a moniker, not actually a label. Jana has been a Warner Nashville artist just like all the others (Cole Swindell, Dan + Shay, etc), really. WMN might still decide to put the Elektra logo on the CD, but either way it doesn't really matter.

Off topic but he was, single handedly, the worst GM ever in the NFL (even worse than Matt Millen)

His career as a GM ended abruptly when he drafted Ryan Leaf, but almost everyone would have drafted Leaf 2nd overall in 1998. Anyway, I personally think nobody was worse than Mr. Let's Draft another Wide Receiver Matt Millen.

Maren Morris has signed with Sony Nashville. The first signee of the new regime. She's been assigned to the Columbia roster.
And James Wesley was never off BBR. He and Kristy Lee Cook are two of Benny Brown's favorites and both would've been dropped ages ago by the rest of the staff if not for Benny.

Also on BBR, even though I'm glad James is still with them, it'll take a small miracle to break him at radio in the future; same goes for Kristy Lee Cook. Right now, they're more or less just luxury artists for Benny Brown and his label.

As for James and Kristy, they are able to keep working in fields they love and the label should just put out EP/Albums on 'em (I know James sells/sold one at shows he does). Neither may never have big market success but why not secondary plays?

I just think it's far more smart to sign two new artists to fill up those spots and invest money into music that radio hasn't heard before (mainstream or secondary). Benny Brown is very wealthy and has had a ton of success though so he can do what he wishes.
