Outstanding. SERENA RYDER MAKING WAVES IN 2013: HARMONY CERTIFIED GOLD & FIRST SINGLE "STOMPA" JUMPS TO PLATINUM STATUS (TORONTO β 6 February, 2013) - Serena Ryder is kicking off 2013 in trailblazing form with her latest release, Harmony (Serenadar Source / Universal Music Canada), achieving certified Gold status in just a few short months. The lead single, "Stompa" has just been awarded platinum certification β a first for Ryder. "It's so exciting to see 'Stompa' do so well and resonating with fans old and new," said Ryder. "I'm very humbled and I can't wait to hit the road in a few weeks to celebrate with them all." Harmony's success is due in part to the infectious first single "Stompa", as well as the equally anthemic follow-up track, "What I Wouldnβt Do". Produced by Emmy/Grammy nominated producer / songwriter / musician Jerrod Bettis (Gavin Degraw, Better Than Ezra) and producer / songwriter / musician Jon Levine (Kβnaan, Nelly Furtado), Harmony is poised to continue to break new ground for Ryder through 2013 and beyond. Serena Ryder has also just inked a deal with Capitol Records in the U.S. which will see the release of Harmony stateside in April. "Harmony is a fantastic album and these accolades are so well deserved," said Randy Lennox, President and CEO, Universal Music Canada. "This is only the beginning for Serena and our U.S. partnership with Capitol will only build on this amazing success!" "We are very excited to have Serena as part of the Capitol family", said Greg Thompson, EVP, Capital Music Group (U.S.). "She is a gifted artist who has made an incredible record." The first block of Ryder's Canadian winter tour is selling quickly with several dates sold out already. Today, additional shows have been added and will be on sale soon. For up to the minute tour updates, when and where to buy tickets, visit serenaryder.com. This Friday February 8, Serena Ryder performs live on CTV's Canada AM and on MuchMusic's New.Music.Live. To be part of the studio audiences, email: Vicky.donaldson@bellmedia.ca (Canada AM) and / or visit newmusiclive.ca/tickets (New.Music.Live). Ryder partners with MusiCounts next Tuesday, February 12, to perform at Woodbine Jr. High School, where recipients of the 2012/13 Band Aid Grants will be announced. $735,000 worth of Band Aid Grants will be awarded this school year, including a grant to Woodbine Jr. High School as well as 10 other TDSB schools ($10,000 each) that have been identified through partnerships that exist between MusiCounts, Music Canada, the Slaight Family Foundation and the TDSB. The event will recognize the new partnership with Music Canada, who have pledged $250,000 to the Band Aid Grant Program over the next three years. Ryder is an artist adored by fans, peers and critics alike which is due mainly in part to her immense raw and earnest songwriting talent and beautifully electric live performances. Over the years, she has received numerous accolades including three prestigious Juno Awards that include: 2008 New Artist of The Year, 2009 Adult Alternative Album of The Year (Is It O.K.) and 2010 Video of The Year ("Little Bit of Red"). Ryder has also seen fantastic album success over the years, with If Your Memory Serves You Well (2007) and Is it O.K. (2009) both achieving Gold selling status. In 2012, her single "Weak In The Knees" also achieved Gold Certification. With 2013 only just beginning, it is safe to say that Serena Ryder will continue to soar to new artistic heights and successes, all in celebration of Harmony.

Odd. Usually their no-risk disc is a brand new release. I think Dragonette had it with their album when it came out late last year.

That should translate over to #1 for all time in Canada! So much multi-format success! She needs country to hop on board!
I should dig up that photo I have with Serena and post here!

Starbucks clients picked up a special treat on Valentine's Day when the chain chose Serena Ryder's "What I Wouldn't Do" as its song of the week. Ryder started her musical career in Peterborough while attending PCVS and has just released her third album to rave reviews.

Yeah, Serena's already won 2 or 3 Junos so far. I'd like to see Kathleen get this, unless she can get the Songwriters one though. I think Voyageur is a much stronger album than Harmony but I'd be happy with either getting it since I love Serena anyway.

Grey's Anatomy used "What I Wouldn't Do." They must love Serena, because they also recently included "Stompa." I heard Stompa the other day and liked it a lot. I will definitely check out her album. Glad to hear!

"What I Wouldn't Do" was perfect on Grey's! I had no idea it was by her. I kind of like "Stompa" too.
Too bad the album isn't on Spotify...

Is What I Wouldn't Do the second single? I haven't heard it on the radio yet but for some reason, I thought it was. I suppose it was because it was a pre-album-release single on iTunes Canada so I assumed they were moving on from Stompa - little did I know (as you can see from my posts above), that Stompa would go on to be a big hit.
I could see Merry Go Round being a single in the future too.

Is What I Wouldn't Do the second single? Yes, see: Harmony's success is due in part to the infectious first single "Stompa", as well as the equally anthemic follow-up track, "What I Wouldnβt Do". However, they probably stopped promotion once "Stompa" started moving, thus explaining why you haven't heard it on the radio yet

I saw Serena Ryder last night and I kept saying Wow! What an amazing show. I've seen her about a half dozen times and this one was easily the best performance she's ever given. I would even go as far as to say it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. What wowed me first was what does so every time I see her and that's her voice. Sometimes she'll hold a note or do a run while moving up the register and it's just... Wow! That's amazing! She's easily got the biggest voice of anyone I've ever seen perform live. I can't emphasize that enough. Next, I was wowed by the high energy of the show. Serena has done solo acoustic sets before and they've always been great but this one was just another level. The lighting was great and really gave her a whole new persona. I think a lot of effort was put into the lighting for this show and I'm definitely under the impression that she's going to be built up and promoted in the US this year. Next was just how well everything came together. When she did For You, she put on a huge hat and it came together just so perfectly. Visually and the sound. Baby Come Back had an awesome outro with the drums. She even did an INCREDIBLE cover of Alex Clare's Too Close, which shocked and awed me. I was just... wow! Her on stage persona was different as well. She used to be very shy and somewhat awkward when she spoke between songs. It was always endearing. She wasn't like that at all. I feel like she's better practicing and getting training on how to address audiences, again, probably in preparation for American promo. After hearing her last night, I think she'll make it.
Also, I think we should try to come up with a way to memify Stompa! It's definitely a meme-worthy song.

Interesting. Returning for an encore, Serena Ryder was even kind enough to offer her audience a verse of Quebec's French-language version of the song "Stompa", and she has arranged for it to be released in a week on iTunes.
