Mediabase 2012 Year-End Chart (Official Now Up)

Here are my projections for the 2012 year-end rankings.

The chart year began with the published chart from Sunday, November 27, 2011 and ended this past Sunday, November 25th. Yes, that's a 53 week year. They tend to happen, on occasion. Particularly this year, when Thanksgiving fell early and we have, nearly, an entire week of November, post holiday. 2013 will be back on the, standard, 52 week schedule.

Unlike Billboard (pulsemusic.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pop&action=display&thread=127147), Mediabase counts all spins, current and recurrent. Mediabase's only, apparant, rule is that a track needs to have spent, at least, one week as a current during the applicable chart period in order to be eligible for inclusion in the year-end rankings. Year-long recurrents are excluded, but I have shown them below, in the top 100, in grey, so you can see where they would have landed had they counted.

Do note, I don't have access to every spin detected by Mediabase. I am limited to the top 50 currents and recurrents that appear on All Access. My projections aren't exact, but I'd consider them "close enough".

Keep watch on this site -- pdf.mediabase.com/YearEnd12/YearEnd12.pdf -- The year-end charts should be appearing here in the next couple of weeks. My projections have tended to be fairly close to what gets published in the PDFs.

UPDATE: The official charts are, now, available at the link above. My projections were off by a week. Turns out, the chart year ended with the Sunday 11/18 chart, NOT the 11/25 chart. I have adjusted my projections, accordingly. Tracks in bold are the rankings that I had incorrect. As you can see, I was very close. I feel confident that the rest of my top 100 is pretty spot on.

Relatively, quick rise and fall and not much recurrent play to it's credit, yet. It, also, peaked at just over 12000 spins, which makes it one of the weakest #1s of the year.

Yep! As I recall, they stuck the 2010 file up, last year, as a "placeholder" before the 2011 file went live. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Here are the final rankings. Best I can tell, the artist rankings seem to count only lead, not featured, credits. My chart projections were, fairly, spot-on. I had the incorrect cut-off date. Here are the final rankings. Best I can tell, the artist rankings seem to count only lead, not featured, credits. My chart projections were, fairly, spot-on. I had the incorrect cut-off date. The 2012 chart year ended with the Sunday 11/18 chart, NOT the 11/25 chart. I adjusted my projections in the first post, accordingly.

While I'm STOKED that Rihanna lands at #1...2012 will ALWAYS be remembered as the year of "Call Me Maybe"...So happy Carly is NOT at the top.

As for me 2 huge hits stand out...Gotye & fun....two great #1 alternative tracks that will live for decades to come...even more remarkable is they both hit BIG in a year that proved EDM has arrived! (FREAKIN FINALLY) Overall a great year of hits!!

While I don't mind see the top 50 songs, it just doesn't feel the same. :(
