Beyoncé's 2nd album, released in 2006 to positive reviews. The album was certified 3x Platinum in the US with sales of over 3.2 million and WW sales of over 7 million copies. B'day spawned the #1 hit 'Irreplaceable' which topped the Pop, R&B and Hot 100 charts (the latter for 10 weeks) in the 4th quarter of 2006. The lead single 'Deja Vu' was also a #1 R&B hit. 'Beautiful Liar' with Shakira came from the re-issue and peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 in 2007. B'day featured a hardcore R&B style with hard beats, live instrumentation and strong vocal performances by Beyoncé.

I consider it my favorite Beysus album. I love it from start to finish. Right. I would definitely say it my favorite album from her, but "4" is no question her best work to date.

By far her best album. The original 11 track version, not the COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY re-release. Just flawless. This is the kind of music she sounds best singing IMO; uptempo, funky numbers.

Agree with the above sentiments that this is her best album. Complete master piece beginning to end. I remember first listening to it and being underwhelmed; it felt like an album full of third or fourth singles but then that was what worked to its advantage in the end.
And can we also give a shout out to how awesome the album photo shoot was? Bey in Creole Country worked out great. And I'll never forget that particular photo of her with the two alligators

I feel like this is regarded as her best work by most of the Hive, but for me it's actually my least favorite album from her. Obviously it's still great.
"Upgrade U" is probably one of my top 5 Bey songs of all time.

Kitty Kat, Get Me Bodied, Upgrade U, Deja Vu, Suga Mama, the breakdown & horn section of "Green Light" ... damn that's half of my top 10 Bey songs right there. Plus that show stealing performance of "Ring the Alarm" at the 2006 VMAs? Slain. I agree about the re-release though, some of those songs were really bad

Plus that show stealing performance of "Ring the Alarm" at the 2006 VMAs? Slain. Indeed. In all seriousness this is my 2nd favorite from her, "4" being her best.

Agree with the above sentiments that this is her best album. Complete master piece beginning to end. I remember first listening to it and being underwhelmed; it felt like an album full of third or fourth singles but then that was what worked to its advantage in the end. This, especially the bolded part. I too was initially not very impressed by the album. That was partially due to the campaign, which played into the expectations of the debut with the lead single being similarly modeled to CIL, but not being as good. As such, just because the tracks weren't obvious giant smashes the way CIL or BB were, it felt like a step down at first. But once you remove those expectations, the true consistency and energy of the album shines through. They could have left Resentment off imo, but other than that it's one of the most consistent releases by an artist of her stature of the new millenium. Yes, it may be a bit short, but it definitely uses almost every minute to the max, which is a giant leap up from her debut, which clocked in around an hour, but where I could remove 20-30 minutes and not really care.

B Day is Beyoncé's best album. There's not a bad song on it. "Upgrade U" and "Green Light" are my favorites.

Her best album and one of the first album I've ever bought. The memories... I love the whole album. This energetic, funky type of R&B really suits Beyonce the best. My faves: Suga Mama, Green Light, Deja Vu and Back Up. Flaws And All is my favorite ballad on it.

I feel that this album was the birth of the Beyoncé we know now -- She started the video anthologies here, the over-the-top/campy performing persona and it's where people started to realize that she wasn't just some fad. An icon was emerging right before our eyes. AllMusic gave the album 5/5 stars:

Bidet was when I was into Beyoncé most. I still enjoy most of it but I've always hated the choice of singles.
I actually have the same issue with 4, which I prefer over this.

Was Bey's best album until 4 came around. I can still revisit it on any random day and "get my life" from beginning to end.

Objectively, the self-titled and Lemonade are probably better, but this is probably my personal favorite of hers to this day.

This really was a brave effort considering the position she was in at the time. Everyone expected her to put out a monstrous radio album, and she could have, she had all the resources to make it and the machine to get behind it. But she chose to make B'Day, which aside from Irreplaceable, was far from radio-friendly, but a cohesive body of work, a fabulous display of her artistic vision and vocal ability. Only Beyonce knows how to deliver these type of songs with the perfect balance of fierceness, sass and control. I just love how unpretentious it was, which is why I place it above Lemonade and self-titled as my favorite from her.

This is when she became a VISUAL artist. I remember first getting it and being extremely underwhelmed. Outside of "Irreplaceable" I didn't hear any HITS, and I was upset because her single selection for DIL was perfect. After the video anthology was released and VH1 played it around the clock for the first weekend, I was hooked! The original version is her most cohesive work to date, and it flows so well.
