:o Did I read this news report right? After receiving 7 nominations, Toby Keith didn't take home one single CMA Award? Now that is "Shock'N'Y'all What are your thoughts...did the academy just not like his songs? His attitude? Was it political, or did the Chips just fall in odd places?

I've not really been listening to too much country lately. I like a lot of Toby Keith's '90s tracks such as "Who's That Man" and "You Ain't Much Fun" as well as that song from a few years ago "How Do You Like Me Now" though.
But how could a guy with that last name be shut out of an awards ceremony?! >:(

I'm actually glad about it. He comes off as being extremelly arrogant, so it was nice to see him be put in his place.

I too wouldn't care less. Toby Keith is not very interesting to me either, and he is incredibly conceited. Hooray for Randy Travis for his victory with "Three Wooden Crosses" for Best Song by the way, one of the categories Toby was shut out of. LOL, and talk about Shock'N Hum! Looks like Toby may have to write Shock'N Y'All Again when the critics are still not supporting him! I sense another big Toby/Natalie Maines battle coming up! Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I think the thing is he was good enough to be nominated in those catagories with 5 choices, but when it came down to be voted as the best the votes weren't there.

Good. His music has been horrible the last two years. He may be popular because of his war anthems or whatever, but they are just plain annoying to me. The only thing country about them is that he sings with a "twang"... other than that, those songs have no business on country radio IMO.

Toby Keith at least used to have a bit of class with "Should've Been A Cowboy" and such, but ever since "Boomtown" he's been very unoriginal and uninteresting. His bland happy-hour anthems and political jargon just keep piling up, and if he's not careful and releases something like "The Taliban Song", he may get a slightly lesser Dixie-Chickation. I weep for the state Country is in overall. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Wow! I am glad to see many people share my opinions on him. I like some of his songs, but I think he tries to be too hard core country sometimes and he can't pull it off.

It'd be different if he was an idiot who made good music, but he's an idiot making really really awful music. That's a combo I can't deal with.

I agree totally. The only reason he moved 600k+ is because people like him because of his war anthem I agree here in the most part. After all, whatever happened to Darryl Worley? His "Have You Forgotten?" went to #1 the same time "Travellin' Soldier" collapsed, but now ever since more and more people are not supporting Bush's policy on Iraq and his approval rating is much lower than it has been in months, suddenly he has fallen out of the radar. "I Will Hold My Ground" is getting nowhere right now. "American Soldier" will be huge I bet, but after that, his war anthems are going to get approved less and less, until finally he is back to selling albums like in his pre-Unleashed days. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Toby has written some really good songs. "My List" and "I Wanna Talk About Me" are very good. "Beer for My Horses" is one of the better country songs of the year.
"Unleashed" remained on the Top 100 since its release. If he was bad, and getting by only on the war, his album would have sunk like Darryl Worley's. Loss of support for the war didn't hurt Darryl's album; the fact that it stunk did. Three number ones, and a decent ballad is what kept Toby on top, not image.
His pro-US, outlaw image has just put him into the upper echelon of country superstars, where he used be in the second tier. People like him because of his image, but they buy the CD because of the songs.
