Jennifer and Clive have begun working on her third album.
“I came here from a meeting with Ne-Yo. I encourage the great songwriters to know she really is a triple threat. I don’t just want urban adult songs. We want signature hit songs for Jennifer.”
I feel like he's always saying something along those lines. So what were the first two albums?

Lol...I agree. He's definitely trying to groom her with Whitney in mind.

I think her and her team really paralyzed themselves with the last era by releasing "Where You At" as the lead single. That was a good song, but not single material, let alone lead single material. It just wasn't all that suitable for radio, IMO.
If they can actually come up with "signature Jennifer songs" that are radio friendly, then hopefully the third era will pose some promise.

It just wasn't all that suitable for radio, IMO. Clive has been grooming her to be Whitney 2.0, but he's having trouble accomplishing it in this day and age. I don't think the pop market is really currently looking for a new Whitney Houston. Big vocal R&B/pop hasn't been in in the mainstream in YEARS. Could Jennifer be the one to bring it back? Maybe. But the Whitney template is not the surefire road to being a crossover music superstar in 2013. I think he should just get her back to where she was with "Spotlight," where it was a song urban adult would gravitate toward but still had enough of an edge and a fast enough tempo that it wasn't out of place at Urban either. He's eyeing mainstream superstardom though.

no disrespect but clive's become an old man...maybe she should align with some producer to create a signature sound rather than to rely solely on clive

I think Jennifer has a great voice, but let's be real, she'll never be Whitney. I don't think we'll ever hear another singer of that caliber. There's so much more to do in this modern world besides practice constantly like the old school singers were forced to do because there was no other option. No shade on Jen, but that's just how I truly feel.

Clive is sitting on the passenger side, Keith and Peter are running driving the car. Honestly her and Alicia are the urban RCA it girls as far as promo/support so she won't have a problem in the arena. They've put her in the studio with RedOne. Jennifer needs records that translate to her voice and don't just sound like anything someone could sing. She's also hit the 30+ mark and doesn't seem into making teeny bopper music. I can't picture Jen singing about getting drunk in the club or dropping it low so if they want Superstar Worldwide stadium sell out Jen, then they've got their work cut out for them. They've been trying the pop thing since her first album when they released Pocketbook to chr and did nothing.

I don’t just want urban adult songs. We want signature hit songs for Jennifer.” I feel like he's always saying something along those lines. So what were the first two albums? Im HAPPY to hear that they don't just want her to do urban adult songs. I have felt like since her debut album they were trying to make her older than she really was. They were on the right path when she did songs like "If this isn't love" and "No one gonna love you." They complemented her voice but didnt age her so much. I think that's her pocket and a good fit for her. Jennifer is really a sassy woman and with her weight loss she is sexy and confident. They need to build off that and find songs that play to those strengths. I really don't feel like they have really tried to do much with her music career though. I definitely don't think they've tried to make her the new Whitney. They completely dropped the ball after her 2nd single was released from her last album. I think her weight-loss is what did the work to sell her last album. RCA really didn't do much of anything. And the fact that Clive Davis is STILL going to Ne-Yo as the "go to" songwriter for Jennifer shows he is too out of touch. I really hope someone else is really taking the lead in executive producing this project.

I Loved her last single "Think Like A Man" Jennifer's got a great voice but she dosen't have the looks and the smooth sound to her voice to become the next Whitney. Plus she's only got 3 minor hits unlike Whitney who had about 4x's that amount when she reached Jennifer's age. I hate to say this but I feel like Jennifer is alot of hype. Does she really even have a big fanbase?

"Think Like A Man" was a step in the right direction. Was it though? It flopped, while John Legend's single from the same soundtrack turned into a massive Urban AC hit.

"Think Like A Man" did a lot better than anything released on her second album and I also think it was a step in the right direction.

"Think Like A Man" did a lot better than anything released on her second album and I also think it was a step in the right direction. It wasn't bigger than "Where You At". "No One Gonna Love You" is debatable.

I feel like they treat Jennifer like a new artist every time she releases an album. We'll see if they actually turn her into a dance diva this time around or if we'll another album like "I Remember Me" with a bunch of throwback and gospel-influenced R&B/Pop tunes. To be honest If I were an A&R I wouldn't know what the hell to do with her at this point.
I agree with Jazzy about them trying to get the audience she had with her first album back.

She's amazing on SMASH! I know the show took a sharp decline in viewers, and I blame the first season. I hope that it can build some momentum and word of mouth because this season is much better than the first, by far. I love her and Katherine..i hope it doesn't get cancelled.

Jennifer Hudson Tackles New Album, Talks Parenthood and Weight LossJennifer Hudson was seeking fame when she kicked off her career as a contestant on "American Idol," but the 31-year-old still hasn't gotten used to raising her 3-year-old son, David Otunga Jr., under the bright lights of Hollywood. "He had a passport and an Oscar pass at 18 months – I mean, this is crazy!" she told omg! at an event celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Weight Watchers and founder Jean Nidetch. "He's an industry baby. I realize that he is growing up in a completely different way than anyone in our family. I am like, wow, how do we deal with this?" Despite JHud's hectic schedule, which included performances at the presidential inauguration, the Oscars, and the Super Bowl this year, she keeps things surprisingly normal for her little man. "David does not care if Mommy worked an 18-hour day. He wants Mommy," she shared. "That's what is required of me and so I try to give him every bit of my all." The Oscar winner notes that her son with fiancé of four years, WWE star David Otunga, also loves to travel and enjoys being on the go. He frequently visits her on movie sets, and recently hit the premiere of "The Call" with his dad. Hudson often documents their mother-son adventures on her Instagram, with captions like, "Awh my munch just came to visit mommy just in time for lunch! Great treat in between filming," and "I had the hottest date last night! He was sooo cute! Even took me out for ice cream." But like most parents, she feels that her baby is growing up too fast. "He's getting older and he's going to be going to school soon and I am like … god I am not ready," she laughed. "I want to be there. I want to be the mom who gets up and fixes breakfast, takes him to school, and picks him up." The Chicago-bred Hudson will probably be the hottest mom on the PTA, too, especially since shedding 80-plus pounds with Weight Watchers. Her body transformation has been so dramatic, that she’s commanded Tinseltown's attention with her fabulous figure. "At one time, I wasn't that girl,” she admitted. "It is a complete 360 [degrees] to not be that healthy figure and then to turn around and be like, 'Oh my god. I am that figure. I am that idol of fitness.' People are always saying, 'I wanna get my JHud on.'" Still, she's surprised by all the interest in her body transformation because making the healthy change was such a personal journey for her. "Weight loss is personal. You won't succeed without that or you won't be able to keep it off, because it has to be something to please yourself." In addition to showcasing her fab physique, the "I Got This" songbird is back in the studio working on a new album, which will be a post-weight loss debut of sorts. "My first album had a lot of controversy about the cover because they made me look so tiny and everyone was like, 'She doesn't look like that, she's not that small.'"
But Hudson has a plan to take on the critics. As one of the producers on her third album, she says she's considering recreating the same cover art from 2008’s Jennifer Hudson to show just how far she's come, adding that she wants to re-introduce herself. "I am loving the process this time around," she said. "I am in the producer's chair. I am very hands-on in every way you can imagine from lyrics to music to producing." omg.yahoo.com/blogs/celeb-news/jennifer-hudson-tackles-album-talks-parenthood-weight-loss-181248072.html---------- Nice to see her having a more hands-on experience this time.

Jennifer has a nice voice, especially when it's under control. I just hope the production & material isn't subpar like her previous albums.

Her last album was really bad with the exception of about 3 or 4 songs. Those Alicia Keys songs were HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She needs young R&B music. I could even hear her on a song like Motivation. Just because she has a powerful voice doesnt mean they have to make her use that power on every track. She can be subtle and sweet vocally as well.
I would love to hear her work with Bruno Mars, Miguel and Chris Brown. I think as writers they can give her some fresh material.

Then the label made a big deal about the Alicia tracks being the most expensive yet didn't even bother to release one as a single. The last album also was handled badly. I'm still at awe at Where You At being chosen as the first single. Most of her best music is her unreleased material:

It was really interesting seeing her husband in a decent sized supporting role in The Call. He looked SO different from his days on I Love New York.

I think the last album s**ts all over her debut and the Alicia tracks were the highlights. "Everybody Needs Love"....Lord Have Mercy!

That second album was on point, and flowed sooo much better than the first one.the first 8 or 9 records were flawless, they just weren't really single material. I never had a problem with WYA being the first single, mainly bc it was so 'Jennifer' (I don't think anyone could've pulled that record off). I will admit though that I was shocked That NOGLY didn't do more, it was just such a jam.... I agree with a lot of others on here, Think Like A Man definitely is a great direction to go. Hopefully she gets back in the studio with Harmony, I really love what he's been doing the last year.

I don't think any of her albums are all that but the second one is better than the debut. My main issue with her is that she is a one note diva , she always screaming to me. I think she needs to diversify her sound and material.

Do you know what Jennifer's main problem is?
She is not known for any of her original songs. She's had two albums, and only her real fans could name a song without thinking hard about it. When she performs at all of the major events, she is singing other artists' songs, not hers. She is an Official Events Singer.
People think that Jennifer Hudson is a good singer, but they do not like her music. There is a serious disconnect there.
