I think Carrie will certainly be "coming to her senses", as many have put it, with her fifth single since there's pretty much no other Pop-sounding single left on the album, except for maybe "Good in Goodbye", but I doubt that they'll release a ballad after the BA-TBC-SYA trio.
I'd bet that "Do You Think About Me" will almost certainly follow up SYA. Or, at the very least, "Leave Love Alone" or "Cupid's Got A Shotgun".

IMO, this is her worst non-ballad single ever. It's going to be ashame that country radio will embrace this when I find it just as pop as WANEGBT that flopped miserably here (bc it was "sooo pop"). I'm more bitter than anything that the single isn't Do You Think About Me, but I'd still rather have almost the entire album over See You Again to country radio.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a "Greatest Hits" 'cash grab' by the label for Fall/Christmas season with 1 or 2 new singles on it. Think about it. W/this that's 18 chart hits. 2 singles. 20 tracks. And with Carrie's fan base, a Hits CD would actually sell. I would love to see a fifth studio release first. It would help get Some Hearts to the eight times platinum mark. After all, a greatest hits CD can wait two or three years! By the way, I love the responses to this fourth single, See You Again. Already to three pages in its first 25 hours!

To those who say this is a good choice because Carrie's fans love it, you are definitely generalizing. It seems that many of the people here who love the song are pop/AC fans (I realize not everyone is). See You Again has no country instrumentation, and because Carrie's name is attached, it won't completely tank. However, I don't see this hitting #1. In fact, I wouldn't be all too surprised to see this miss Top 5. If it meets a lot of resistance, it could miss the Top 10 even. I have no doubts about this song's hit potential. Personally, it's one of my favorites on the album...probably second only to "Blown Away". But even if I didn't like this, I fail to see what distinguishes this as so 'un-country' compared to the rest of what's getting played. I like the vast majority of country music today. Yet I think I will always like the traditional stuff more. With that said, I still really like SYA and the other singles Carrie has released this 'era'. In SYA, the chorus is big but the verses are mainly just a soft pulsing drum/cymbal beat and backed by piano...they're relatively quiet. There are touches of steel guitar mixed in as well, notably in the first few lines of the second verse. I'm not saying this song is very 'country' when it comes to the instrumentation, but this is Carrie we're dealing with...she's built up a huge fanbase so radio will play her. Radio wants to play to the fans and Carrie has lots of them so she can release songs that sound 'out there' and they'll get played, as long as they aren't clunkers a la "Truck Yeah". If so many of today's artists--especially the guys--can get away with being mostly rock and just dabbling with country, I guess I don't understand why that style (rock mixing with country) doesn't get condemned as much as the pop-country style does. This song is no less country compared to some of the big hits by Blake, Jason, Lady A, Kenny, Miranda, Brad, and others.

^I could have worded my response a bit better. I'll admit that I probably should have waited to cool off a little. I understand what you're saying about the current rock-country songs on country radio, but that style has been a staple on country radio for years now. While there are AC-type songs that get played (such as Blake's God Gave Me You, which Dudley posted earlier), I just don't think this is the right move for Carrie, especially coming off two songs that weren't very country musically. I'm afraid that eventually, the resistance will come. And, I fail to see how this song is so great. The sound is outdated AC/Pop, and it's several rungs below Carrie's other Christian songs.
Perhaps it won't do as badly as I stated. Who knows, maybe it'll hit #1 (I'm still hoping for the best for Carrie's sake, but I'm already ready for the next single, if there even is one). At the same time, I still wouldn't be surprised to see this underperform (at least for Carrie's standards), which is a shame since there are several excellent choices that are on the album, and this release has certainly eliminated one of them.

One of the reasons I really like this is because I feel like the lyrics are very encouraging. They're not super-specific which allows the listener to interpret them however he/she would like to. But it's a hopeful song and that's what really draws me in. I really like the piano in this one and I just generally think it's a catchy song. There's just something about it that's made it a favorite on the album from the start. I agree that "Wine After Whiskey" is a stronger song though so I hope that comes next because not only is it a well-written song with strong lyrics, but it's much more 'country' in its sound.
I've always been a Carrie fan but I honestly have to say that the 4 singles released from the Blown Away album are probably in my top 5 favorite Carrie singles of all time...that's how well I think they've done with selecting singles this 'era'. Now, with all that said, and even though I really like Carrie, I'm still rather disappointed in a few tracks on the BA album...there are too many songs on the album that I skip ("Nobody Ever Told You" & "Thank God For Hometowns" are the biggest offenders). I understand the sentiment within "Forever Changed" but it's just not a song I care to listen to, and the same goes for "Who Are You". That's 4 songs on a 14-track album that I don't really care for.
Others like "One Way Ticket", "Leave Love Alone", and "Cupid's Got A Shotgun" are ok but they've burned on me rather quickly and so I don't think I'd like any of them as a single. I guess I could maybe go for CGAS, but that's about it from that group. The biggest gem left for me is "Wine After Whiskey" which is probably my 3rd favorite on the album, behind BA and SYA, so I really hope WAW is a single yet. DYTAM and GIG are both well above average as well so I'd be pleased to see 1 of them released but WAW is definitely my top pick of the remaining tracks.
I know I'm on a bit of a tangent now but I guess I'd probably rank the songs like this: Blown Away >> See You Again > Wine After Whiskey > Good Girl > Two Black Cadillacs >> Good In Goodbye > Do You Think About Me >>>>> Cupid's Got A Shotgun > Leave Love Alone > One Way Ticket >> Who Are You > Forever Changed > Thank God For Hometowns > Nobody Ever Told You. That's 7 songs that I really like but then after them, it's quite a big gap. Songs 8-10 on my list are decent but as I said earlier, the 4 at the bottom of my list I could do without.
I definitely agree with those who wish Carrie would release more 'country-sounding' singles but that's really the only thing I don't like so far (that we're on single #4 now and all the singles so far have been the most 'pop-sounding' ones). Hopefully "Wine After Whiskey" comes 5th but I'm worried they won't release it at all because neither WAW or SYA was actually written for the album and with SYA as the 4th single, they might not want to release another song that was written before the album came into shape (basically, they might want to release one of the songs that was actually written for the album...both SYA and WAW were older songs that just happened to fit on the album).
Anyway, I doubt SYA struggles on the chart. I think it has a great shot at being another #1 for her.

And in course to the "banjo" remark? I see nothing wrong with it. To those who enjoy releasing songs stuffed with banjos, steel guitars, and all: great for them. Carrie's contemporary, so by her releasing the tracks that have contained the same formations as her biggest hits is smart to me. That's all I meant by that comment. Sorry if you found an issue with it. I interpreted your original comment as being that Carrie's catalogue was full of standard banjo tracks (especially the recent material); however, I now see that you might not have meant for someone to read that part of your post in that way.

I honestly have to say that the 4 singles released from the Blown Away album are probably in my top 5 favorite Carrie singles of all time...that's how well I think they've done with selecting singles this 'era'. "Good Girl" isn't bad and it's most definitely continued to grow on me to this day, but the 1-2-3 punch of the last three has just been perfection and are definitely in my top 5. I'm still rather disappointed in a few tracks on the BA album...there are too many songs on the album that I skip. This is my biggest gripe with the album. Half of it is great (the first five tracks, "Wine After Whiskey" and "Good In Goodbye"), but everything else really just falls flat on the floor (another one of her abominations). I've listened to "One Way Ticket" and "Nobody Ever Told You" ONCE—never again. DYAM, GIG, followed by WAW would be a great way to wrap up the era. I definitely agree with those who wish Carrie would release more 'country-sounding' singles but that's really the only thing I don't like so far (that we're on single #4 now and all the singles so far have been the most 'pop-sounding' ones). I think her biggest misstep was not releasing "Somebody When I Stop Loving You". I'm not a country music fan by any means (save artists like Carrie and Taylor), but I'm certain that song could've done wonders for her. I can see "Wine After Whiskey" getting the same treatment, sadly. Anyways. Thrilled to see this being released.

Although Blown Away has a lot of standout tracks, it also contains some of Carrie's weakest tracks to-date (Cupid, Leave Love, Who Are You). I like all the single choices so far. Release DYTAM after this and she's got her best era ever.

I really like this song; it's been one of my favorites on "Blown Away" since the clips were released. It's got a great message, and I really enjoy the production. Carrie's team really stepped it up with the production of this album as a whole; there are so many little touches that make the songs feel atmospheric, and not just as if you're listening to a great song with loud production that doesn't add to the listening experience.
I honestly feel like Carrie maybe thought it was a risky move to release SYA, BECAUSE it's the most pop-sounding song on the album, and I think everyone was thinking she'd go with CGAS, NETY, or OWT. Hell, I don't even think most of the fans (myself included), thought this was even in the running to become a single. I respect that Carrie's team hasn't taken the predictable route this era, and they've certainly stepped up her artistic reach and helped her reach out to fans a little more through social media like Twitter and Instagram.
Point being, I think Carrie has done a lot to move forward this era, and this single choice just reinforces my idea that Carrie wants to keep pushing herself, and doesn't want to be put into the mold she had to break out of after Idol.
All that said, I'm not sure this is the best choice for a single, even though I personally love it. It's not something I could see as being very 'radio-friendly' and I'm just not sure how well this will do for her. Of course it'll probably perform well, because this is Carrie Underwood we're talking about, but considering her last 3 singles have been stellar and quite different from what she's released before, I do wonder how this will be perceived.
I would've liked to see her release something a bit more light and fun (DYTAM would've been my top pick), and I just don't know how to feel about this choice after 3 great, pop-leaning singles. It would be a nice change of pace to have something a bit lighter at radio for Spring, IMO.
However, I will support anything Carrie releases, and I hope this does well for her. At this point, it's looking more and more unlikely that WAW will see the light of day; I think this would be a huge mistake, and I NEED this to be released in the fall. Hopefully the label will go with at LEAST 2 more singles, because there are so many great songs here. If Carrie thinks PO (her weakest album to date), can go 6-7 singles deep, I would hope she believes her best album has that same potential.

I don't see this move as being risky at all. This song is "more instant" for radio. If anything, this isn't as risky as releasing Blown Away and Two Black Cadillacs. I'd say this is the most radio-friendly single so far this era.

Assuming the 5th single is the last single from the album, I'd like to see "Wine After Whiskey" released. I know it probably won't happen, but it's the strongest track left on the album (maybe aside from "Good in Goodbye", but WAW has the country factor going for it, which I think she kind of needs this era), and is a potential Grammy-winning single in my eyes.
I love DYTAM and I want it to be a single, but only if I knew for a fact that WAW would be a single too, which I don't. So if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with WAW all the way.

I love seeing 'See You Again' as a single! I have loved the song since the beginning! As much as I love One Way Ticket, I kind of can't imagine hearing it on radio! We'll see what the song will do on radio, but I wouldn't be worried about it, it'll do fine!

I know I know they like to snub her, but with a song this strong how could they ignore it?

I know I know they like to snub her, but with a song this strong how could they ignore it? The same way they ignored the equally-strong and massively successful "Blown Away" Carrie's pretty much out of the industry awards' good graces of Country music, whether the reasoning be that she's not the "newest flavor of the genre", politics, or something else behind the scenes. As long as she's asked back to perform and host the CMAs with Brad Paisley, then I'll have a good enough reason to set my DVR to the show and fast forward through Miranda's and Blake's acceptance speeches.

One of the reasons I really like this is because I feel like the lyrics are very encouraging. They're not super-specific which allows the listener to interpret them however he/she would like to. That's actually one thing I don't like about the song's lyrics (and it's something I don't like about many of Carrie's singles). Both Jesus, Take The Wheel and Temporary Home both had strong, specific lyrics with great storylines. This one just feels like it throws cliches together. There's just a lot of things I don't like about this song. Perhaps I have let my opinion sway how I feel it will do on radio. I'll admit that I'm not musically-inclined (if that's the right word), but the production of the song is extremely dull (the "oh oh's" are very grating to my ears). The only good thing is Carrie's vocals (especially in the bridge and the very end). I may be in the minority, but I actually prefer Who Are You to See You Again. Although I certainly would not want Who Are You to be released for many of the same reasons that I don't think See You Again should, mainly that it is not country. And, although Thank God For Hometowns isn't one of my favorites, I think it would have a run similar to Mama's Song and Don't Forget About Me and would be a grower. I wouldn't pick it as a single, but to me, it's a better choice than See You Again, and would have reduced doubts about Carrie going pop with the first 3 releases. I'm just worried that with Carrie's first four singles from the album not really having a very distinct country sound, backlash will occur. I know she's always been country/pop or pop/country (whatever you prefer to call it), but I don't really like the direction she's going. Since Undo It (which I thought was not the best release), it seems that Carrie's single choices have been going more and more to the pop direction (and coincidentally, I believe this is when the country awards stopped coming for Carrie). I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift mainly because of her musical direction and vanilla voice (although there are times she releases some pretty good tunes). This is not what I want from Carrie at all, but of course, it's not my choice. It's Carrie's to make. She claims she wants to remain loyal to country, but I'll admit to being worried about it. The only possible good news is that, as others have said, it will be difficult for Carrie to release a non-country song as the 5th single (if there even is one. After all, Play On didn't have a 5th single, and Carrie will be doing that Sound of Music thing late this year, so she and the label may end the era after 4 singles again, which I don't think is a good idea, but whatever). Of course, she could release Who Are You or Nobody Ever Told You (although the latter still has a more country sound to it). One Way Ticket is most definitely out. If DYTAM or WAW is the 5th single, I'll feel a lot better. GIG would be ok. Cupid, while it is very country and well-written, is actually not my favorite. I think the problem is it's overproduced and oversung, and if See You Again underperforms, I actually would not want it released because it may seem like Carrie is trying to pander back to the country crowd due to the underperformance, which could cause more problems. Ah, I think too much. I know Carrie's got tons of #1's and is an established artist, but when it comes to female artists, it seems that if they make a mistake, things can quickly go downhill. But, I'm letting this go now.

While Carrie has improved as a songwriter, she still hasn't written a line that standsout. There isn't one line that she's written that is memorable or a line that is "Carrie brand." A lot of times, they're just a bunch of cliches put together.

I can understand the worries that many seem to have about this song alienating radio from Carrie because it continues her pop trend. I had never thought about it in that way before! It is definitely way too easy for female artists to have a misstep that could make their continued success start to look dim... For me personally, I am a fan of the big-voiced powerful ballads. For that reason I love songs like Martina's "Where Would You Be", Reba's "Forever Love", and Sara's "I Could Not Ask For More", and it is for that same reason that I fell in love with "See You Again" the first time I heard it. I absolutely love the vocal delivery behind it, and the production really complements it nicely to my ears. That is the lens through which I look at this song, and which leads me to believe it will be a huge smash. Those types of songs have always been extremely successful for the artists like Carrie, Martina, Sara, Reba, and Faith who can belt extremely well. It is what distinguishes them most from artists like Taylor and Miranda, who are incredible artists in their own rights, but they have to rely on catchy mid-range hooks to make their songs memorable in my opinion. With Carrie being the only one of the aforementioned belters that is not currently between albums, the powerful delivery behind "See You Again" for me will provide an excellent contrast to popular female-lead songs like "Mama's Broken Heart" and "Done", which are well sung but in an entirely different style. It is the only song with that sound that is currently on the radio. In addition, I feel that this is a song that actually fits Carrie's voice extremely well. She's got one of those voices that is too edgy for my taste unless it is on the right song. "Who Are You" is a good example of that. The very first time I heard it I thought, "This would be a perfect song for Martina's voice." Carrie's vibrato fits well sometimes, but is too slow and heavy and irks me mightily at others, and "Who Are You" is definitely one of the latter instances. That being said, I love "Who Are You," (especially the high E5 in the bridge!!! ), but that is because it is a catchy song rather than Carrie's vocal performance. "See You Again", however, is one of those songs where for me everything lines up perfectly and I can listen over and over again and never get tired of it! I am glad that this song was released, because now we can see what it will do! I feel that if it hadn't been, it would have become the "Niagara" of Carrie's catalog... (Seriously though, the biggest smash hit of Sara's entire career never actually got released?? Whaaat? Lol). If it flops, we can move on to a countrier sounding 5th single sooner rather than later. But if it is successful, which I firmly believe it will be, it will be yet another huge hit behind Carrie's name.

If Carrie Underwood really wanted to silence her critics to how country she is, when it comes time for her to release CD #5, she should put out a killer country ballad out as first single. Problem solved. I think it is too late to get that from this era, even if she did go the country route for single #5 or #6 (if released from Blown Away).

I think choosing "See You Again" as a single speaks pretty loud and clear that Carrie doesn't really care about silencing the critics who call her "too pop". She'll always be too something for someone, no matter what she does. Even if she had released "Wine After Whiskey" instead, critics still would've found something to complain about. So instead, she's putting out the songs that mean the most to her and that she wants to release, regardless of what the critics might say.

I would love to see a traditional covers album from Carrie next. I believe she could deliver the same high quality of Alan's "Under the Influence" and Martina's "Timeless."

That would be a wonderful sound for Carrie. She can definitely do classic country really well. However, consider this: the release of Timeless is something that I attribute to be one of the causes of Martina's declining popularity. She released Timeless pretty much right in the apex of her career, and it received rave reviews and sold like hotcakes, but radio didn't touch it. That absence from radio between '05 and '06 allowed women like Gretchen Wilson and even Carrie herself to snatch the spotlight. When Martina came back with original material, she was never quite able to get back her popularity because radio had moved on to the younger women in her absence.
Of course that is all just my theory, but I could see that happening all too easily to Carrie as well. Her album would undoubtedly sell extremely well, but would radio touch an album of old country covers in this day and age? They have never been very receptive before... So I do not think Carrie should release a covers album at this point in her career, when she is literally on fire similar to the way Martina was in the days of "Evolution" and "Emotion". If she is ever going to release a traditional covers album, it should be completely by her own choice and once she reaches a point where it doesn't matter for her career whether radio plays it or not.

I think the only way Carrie Underwood should be doing a covers album at this stage of her career would be if its kept as a mere side project that is released between her studio albums or even during one of her album cycles, and if it receives no singles (or maybe one single on the chance that it is pushed in a time frame between albums, such as Remind Me filling a gap between Mama's Song and Good Girl). But I definitely can't see her releasing one as a major studio release at this stage of her career and expecting to squeeze multiple hit singles at radio out of it.

Yeah, Carrie can save the covers album and what-not for something of a much, much later time.
Actually, I'd like to see her release an EP of some sorts -- sort of like what Kelly Clarkson did with "The Smoakstack Sessions" Vol. I and II (very earthy and raw acoustic covers of songs and classic Country songs), or even an iTunes Session (which, for those who don't know, is just singing songs and cover songs acoustically (in some circumstances, to an intimate crowd) and having them released to iTunes -- check out Adele's and Kelly Clarkson's if you haven't yet!).

I'd love to see her release an acoustic EP. And keeping on topic with SYA, I'm curious to hear an acoustic version of this someday. I imagine she'll do this song at the ACMs, but likely with the full band. I wonder if we'll get to hear a more stripped down version of this at some point?
