All the demo songs have been removed from spotify I know! What kind of f*ckery is this??? Why would they add these songs for a day and then remove them?

I don't see how they are in competition? They came up together a bit but The Weeknd is now a full-blown Top 40 star.

I don't see how they are in competition? They came up together a bit but The Weeknd is now a full-blown Top 40 star. I don't even think it's a radio thing. That's kind of a small way to look at things. It's the bigger picture. In the grand scheme of all things music, what radio format is playing what is irrelevant. Because they're both male and people do view The Weeknd as R&B, comparisons would be 100% unavoidable. It's safe to say that Frank's album is not loaded with Max Martin songs or Hot 100 #1's. Album sales, media attention, etc. are all benefits to The Weeknd. I could be totally way off base, but I just think it was smart to wait. The Weeknd's album/era would have swallowed Frank's. From the Hot 100, iTunes, VMAs, etc. Frank needs more of a clearer lane. I am sure his album is done. He's just figuring out the roll out.

If anything, I think it's a combo of that + the music isn't there.

If this ends up being some wack Neither Fish Nor Flesh s**t, it'll be so heartbreaking. Shit's still pointing to this, ugh.

*He'd be D'Angelo. But really...where is it... If he actually releases another album, yes. My statement was he "might" end up like Lauryn Hill, meaning if he doesn't release another album. He wouldn't be D'Angelo since D'Angelo did release another album (and now a third).

He's no where near on level of Lauryn Hill creatively or commercially. Please stop the comparisons as they sound just as rediculous before the release of 25.

Yeah, D'Angelo is a good comparison as is Maxwell. But, let's not pretend he's as good as Maxwell either.

I maintain my Terence Trent D'Arby comment from over a year ago, but "heartbreaking" has changed to "IDGAF".

*I understand the LH comparison in terms of one-and-done, was just adding a more apt comparison in terms of style/impact/etc. I'm also aware D'Angelo eventually released another album but it took 14 years. It's been 4 since Frank put an album out.
And on the contrary to some posts, I think the "overrated" comments are almost as pointless as Lauryn Hill comparisons. It's no pop album so I understand it to be divisive but Channel Orange was and is exceptional. No ifs, ands or but(t)s. It still sounds as good to me as it did in 2012. Who knows what the quality of the follow-up will be, if there even is one. But CO was an amazing album that deserved the unending praise it received.
IMO, at least...

I have issues with the Frank/Lauryn complaints for a different reason - I understand it's not meant to imply anything about Frank's impact or legacy, but even with that in mind, I just don't think the root cause of their absences was the same. Lauryn truly went off the psychological deep end, and as her behavior was the complete antithesis of the self-empowering message behind Miseducation, it was a heartbreaking pill to swallow. Along those lines, D'Angelo (who also went mentally went through the ringer after Untitled took off) is the one somewhat more comparable to Lauryn. The industry seemed to break their spirits in a very different way from anyone else.
Frank, as far as I can tell, is just being sensitive about his shit and wimping out under the pressure of expectation. That's not worth comparing anyone to IMO, though I am sure there are plenty of one-and-dones I could analogize him to for that - if I could only recall who those other one-and-done folks are. Everyone just goes for Lauryn because she's the most visible example.

IMO, at least... In the big picture of things, four years isn't even a super long period of time. If ANY album doesn't sound as good after a four year time span, then it probably wasn't too good to begin with. I don't understand what the "pop album" comparison means either, as most of us in this discussion are participating as R&B fans. I just think much of his hype is the result of blogosphere bandwagoning. I personally find Miguel's first two albums and The Weeknd's first mixtape more worthy of the acclaim that's reserved for Frank. That's not me saying that CO is a bad album- it's a great one in fact. But this whole media "mystique" that attempts to lift CO into mega classic mode can seem so over the top at times.
