I can name very few R&B albums better than this within the last 12 years. And I'm not saying this just cause she's no longer with us. Top notch production that still sounds fresh today, with little help from Timbaland as he only produced a couple of tracks on the album. And Aaliyah's pleasant voice is nice to hear. No over-the-top vocal acrobatics or anything. She had such a cool and laid back vocal delivery which is kinda unique.

It's an amazing album! All of the singles were great and "Loose Rap" and "I Refuse" are among my favorite songs from her.

Great album, not a dull track to be found. I hate that she's no longer with us, but she surely made the best album she possibly could before leaving this earth. "Rock the Boat" and "It's Whatever" are a few examples of just how effortlessly sexy she was, never over-doing it. And the US hidden track "Messed Up" is one of my favorites and should have been on all editions.

This entire album is timeless and her best IMO. "Rock The Boat", "Loose Rap", "What If"...ugh SO many. Every R&B fan should own this album.

The producers and the R&B music site YouKnowIGotSoul did an all-access article about this album and the recording of the album back in 2011. It's an interesting read
This is her best album. I love every song on it.

I just discovered this album last summer; it was literally the soundtrack to my summer. The album is so smooth and flawless...let's just all be bathed in the glory that is "Extra Smooth" and "I Refuse". SO GOOD. "Rock the Boat," "Never No More," "Those Were the Days," etc. Every song is perf

The only song I can do without is "What If". It's a bit much for me.

I remember buying this release week and thinking she was exploring such fresh, new sounds and being excited about the future of her career. Definitely one of the moments I most felt like we lost out on a talent that had so much more to offer.

This album is so bittersweet for me because like @jazzysoul47 I bought the album (deluxe) when it first came out and a few weeks later playing the album to all my cousins saying how LEGENDARY the album was.

"We Need a Resolution" is probably my favorite Aaliyah song. It's funny how "I Care 4 U", recorded five years earlier, sounds the most timeless.

"We Need a Resolution" is probably my favorite Aaliyah song. It may be mine as well. What I find fascinating is that it really doesn't have much a hook (or does it?) but it manages to be very enjoyable. And it sounds very fresh. And "I Care 4 U" certainly doesn't sound 15+ years old. :o

What an album. I remember buying it the day it came out and being absolutely OBSESSED with it during the summer of 2001. One of my favorite albums of all time.

Classic. One of few albums I've been able to listen to from stop to finish. I still keep it in regular rotation.

Oh. Forgot about "Messed Up". Don't care for that one either. 'It's Whatever' is great. I love the ethereal vibe it has I love it too; it's a pretty simple track. And, again, it doesn't sound dated at all. The album is over 12 years old! I find this unbelievable people really.

This album still doesn't sound dated 12 years later. I can only imagine what she would've given us had she lived, I just hope it wouldn't have been part of the "Crunk n 'B" of the mid-2000s. If anything, I could've seen her going rockier after some of the tracks on this album.

If anything, I could've seen her going rockier after some of the tracks on this album. I imagined her going that route (a more rock/alternative sound) and she was interested in the UK "garage sound" that Craig David help usher into the limelight. Also, the whole dubstep genre seems like it would've fit her style too. Seems like she had an ear for unique new music.

The sound of this album is unique and different from the R&B albums released at the time. It still sounds fresh. "Loose Rap" and "I Care 4 U" have always been my favorite tracks. "Rock The Boat" is one of those songs that sounds better over time.

So I need to start compiling a list of the best albums of all-time to my ears, because this is most definitely on it. Not a single filler track, no dated production, just perfection from start to finish.

This truly is a flawless album and her best body of work. It was adventurous, sexy, spicy, honest and cool. Stellar songwriting and production too. AllMusic gave the album 4.5/5 stars:

An amazing album with great production. It makes me sad that this was her last. π’she was blossoming very beautifully. I love Loose Rap, Extra Smooth, More Than A Woman, Rock Da Boat, and We Need A Resolution to name a few. I keep wondering if she had lived, what would her 4th album sound like...

One of the best albums of all time (yeah, i said it.m4a) hands DOWN. Perfect production with her beautiful voice, hasn't even aged a bit... It's Whatever, Rock The Boat, More Than a Woman, Try Again, Those Were The Days, Read Between The Lines & Loose Rap...and the others...what an album.
