I feel like they have done a great job slowing introducing her to the country world. Getting the reality show is a big deal, and I think this song could be a big hit...however that cover even though she looks amazing is not what I would have done...I would have made it obvious it was a country single. That cover does not speak to me as a country single which I think could make it sit on some PDs desks for a while.

That cover does not speak to me as a country single which I think could make it sit on some PDs desks for a while. It's no different than Carrie Underwood or other country/pop singers covers. The song itself is quite 'pop-leaning' (it really DOES feel like "Avril w/country instruments" when first listening to it).

She's doing a radio tour at the moment so I'm sure the PDs will have no issue identifying who she is and what the song is. Regardless, I'm not sure if this was one of the songs I liked on the RadioTrax survey I got a few weeks ago. Hm.

I think this could be a good song, but it depends on the production. That live performance was kind of bland. But I think it has some good potential with a fuller backing track.

Any word when this will be available for purchase somewhere?

Pop-punk singer decides to try to reinvent self as country artist for the sake of a career despite no discernible country influence in her voice and past music? Wonderful. Cassadee Pope has a rangy if reedy voice, and on The Voice she specialized in delivering even poppier versions of country-pop hits like "Stupid Boy," "Cry," and "Over You." The sensible take-home from Cassadee's run on the show was that Cassadee should mine Nashville songwriters for material, which it appears she has done, and then market that material to the adult pop formats, where she belongs. She lacks the interpretive sensitivity of a Keith Urban (which was exposed when Cassadee covered "Stupid Boy") and she doesn't have the soulfulness of a Faith Hill (which was exposed when Cassadee covered "Cry"), and that will contribute to her sounding out of place even alongside the more pop-leaning vocalists in the country genre. "Wasting All These Tears" sounds like a typical pop-rock song to my ears despite the producer's attempts to accessorize and disguise the song with country instruments. The storytelling fizzles after the first two descriptive lines, and Cassadee's vocal performance evokes Avril Lavigne, as rsmatto points out. With no disrespect meant to Cassadee, I will be annoyed if one of the very limited slots that country radio deigns to give females goes to her when Ashley Monroe, Kellie Pickler, Kacey Musgraves, and other talented country women who have much more to offer the format are working to fill them.

This is one of my favourites Caitlyn Smith songs, but I have to admit I had higher hopes for Cassadee's version. The live one was good, but now, with the full production... Well, I like Caitlyn's version better.
And sadly I think's that's what's gonna happen with her album. From what it's out there, she really has good songs, from great writers, and they sound good on this acoustic radio tour she's doing, but I'm a little scared of how the full studio versions will sound.

I'm baffled as to why this girl is being passed off as a country singer. I watched this first half of season 3 of The Voice, and never once did I think Cassadee Pope should be a country singer. Don't get me wrong she's a talented singer, but she could probably have a better career as a pop/rock artist. Preferably played on a radio genre better suited to her than country.

I love Cassadee... but I kinda think she would work better in the pop world, a la Avril or Kelly.
As long as the music is good though, I don't mind her being marketed to country.

I didn't see her a country artist either but it may work out in her favor. Very few pop/rock artists aren't seeing that much success these days, especially new artists in that genre. She probably has a much better chance of selling in the country world. I don't follow the country charts a ton so I have no idea if the song will be a hit or not but I do know that it's a great song. Love her vocals and the lyrics. I do think there is definitely room for another successful country female since the male to female ratio seems way off so hopefully Cassadee can do something.

This post sums up my feelings extremely well. I actually like her voice quite a bit, and this song is pretty solid...but with that said, nothing about her voice sounds country at all. The song is also quite aggressively pop/rock in nature, with some country instrumentation added in there. It generally seems to me like the idea here is to market her to country, partially because she was on Blake's team but also because the mainstream country radio industry continues to push the more 'modern' pop/rock-country sounds out to audiences. There's no denying that the current style of country is very popular, but at the same time I continue to believe there is a rather large group of people out there yearning for the days when country radio and the industry itself actually starts to embrace the more traditional nature of the genre once again. The hit songs continue to get further away, little by little, from what actually identifies music as country. I like a good deal of pop/rock/country-flavored tunes but I just think there are too many artists going that route, and therefore they are being greatly over-represented on country radio, whereas the more traditional artists aren't getting fair exposure. And it doesn't help that Cassadee's voice sounds very 'pop-punkish' and almost like Avril Lavigne. I do think Cassadee sings very well but I don't hear any country influences in her voice like I do with Jana Kramer, Kellie Pickler, and Kacey Musgraves (among others).

Even though this song strays pretty far from the "country sound," I still think it will be a big hit and will lead Cassadee into a really successful career. Her exposure on "The Voice" will surely give her at least an easy start to her chart run, and then digital sales and positive fan feedback will probably keep her momentum going to get her to a high peak position on the chart. I really like this song, but I agree that it doesn't deserve to be a country hit. However, I'm not sure I agree that she will be taking away attention and airplay from other female artists. Miranda, Jana, and Kacey have already experienced so much success (the latter two so early in their careers) that I don't think PDs could kick them to the curb in favor of Cassadee. Kellie Pickler, Katie Armiger, Rachel Farley, and Ashley Monroe aren't experiencing any real success anyway. Maggie Rose, Sheryl Crow, and Kelly Clarkson are on the verge of achieving success in the format, but I really don't see how they could be pushed aside simply because one more female artist scores a big debut hit, as all three of them have really large fan bases. I'd think that there would be enough room for one more new female artist in the country format.

I hope I'm not being too harsh in saying this, but I hope the single goes nowhere. She isn't an authentic country singer and I feel like she is just being a sell-out.

She's being marketed to Country because she was on Team Blake. I'd be willing to bet that she'd be marketed to Pop if she was on Team Christina, Team Cee Lo, or Team Adam.

In multiple interviews after she won they sat down and they asked her which direction she wanted to take her career. Meanwhile Scott Borchetta had made it known he was VERY interested in her, and when she said she wanted to do Country they told her that Scott wanted to meet with her and was interested. So I don't believe it has anything to do with whose team she was on for The Voice. She was given the choice and she picked.

She's going the country route because when she was on the show, Blake had her sing some country songs because she was very good at connecting to the lyrics and emoting them through her performances. Now I don't know if Blake helped Cassadee realize she liked performing country music, or if she is going this route in hopes of having any kind of success, but I think it was obvious that she was going to be marketed to country music after she won The Voice. She won by singing country songs, why would she go any other route?
Anyway, I for one love Cassadee and think she's a great talent. No, I don't think her voice is extremely country sounding, but her music is going to be. I think that she has a very good chance of going places with this song and her career. After all, she did win a reality TV show, so she does have a lot of fans. I know that doesn't guarantee a career, but it definitely won't hurt her.

She's likely going to be marketed a la Taylor Swift, with both Country and Pop or crossover singles. Cassadee is the show's first REAL chance at a true star coming from the show. The Voice has yet to give us an 'Idol'-like star but if there's any genre that'll help make that happen it's Country Music and it's very likely Cassadee Pope.

Cassadee is performing June 5th at the CMT Music Awards, I'm assuming it will be this song.

I love the song! I think it's a great first single. It's got the potential to be a big hit, we'll see how they promote it and if country radio plays her.
Out on iTunes now.

asdfghjkl. I LOVE this. I take back what I said earlier in this thread about her needing to do pop/rock. She was great at that, but she's also great at this.

From the Country Forum Rules & Guidelines: 2. No daily updates from iTunes or any other sales or airplay charts: Again, people who post daily iTunes updates tend to do so without adding any real analysis, so don't post them. If it is a significant week for a song on iTunes, i.e., its debut week there, or the week that a televised performance or discount deal or something has the song shooting up the digital charts, then you can post once to note the song's peak on the chart that week. You can also make a general observation about a song having stabilized within a certain range on the digital charts if there is any connection with the song's country airplay. Similarly, if you wish to note a song's peak on another chart, you may post once in a thread to do so.

This song isn't that bad at all. It reminds me a lot of "Come Back... Be Here" by Taylor Swift. What's great is that it's already up to number nine on iTunes. The debut single of a winner from The Voice has yet to even reach the top 100 on iTunes (other than the coronation singles from Dia and Javier). Things are looking great for her already.
Oh, and she looks A LOT like Anna Kendrick on the single cover.
