^ I don't think EYB's album will be out for a while. They said on Sirius/XM something about after Christmas, next year. I hope they don't go with a second single before dropping the album. I've always hated that recent trend. One single is plenty to get the album out there. Any word on them for sure if that's whats happening here?

I know they initially wanted to have new music out during Kenny's tour earlier this year, but I knew that was never going to happen. I can't remember where I heard/read it, but the band said they hoped to have an album out in August, and when they said that it was during the beginning of the "Say Goodnight" chart run. Well, I knew that song would flounder up the chart slowly and even if they pulled it early, there still wasn't much room/time there to drop a lead single and have it top 10/15 by August.
Still, I was hoping we'd hear something about the album being released before Christmas, as "Drunk Last Night" is doing great at radio and with sales. A late November/early December album release would've been perfect, but since we haven't heard anything yet, I doubt the album will come out before Christmas. So, January-February seems likely...bummer, because I think it would've benefited them a bit more to have this out prior to the holidays/shopping season.

But why would Republic Nashville do that? I can't think of legitamite reason to waiting till February. There's gotta be some rhyme or reason.

Could be for a lot of different reasons...maybe EYB didn't quite have the album done in time to get it out there prior to Christmas, maybe they decided to go back in and re-cut or swap some songs, maybe the label thought November/December was going to be too crowded anyway, etc. The Big Machine label group has a few albums on the schedule, including Thomas Rhett's (10/29), Danielle Bradbery's (11/19), and FGL's Deluxe album (11/26), so maybe they didn't want to put up one of their artists against another? They might not have enough time, and also I'm sure it takes a good bit of time to actually make and physically produce a bunch of albums.
Just thinking out loud. Could be a lot of reasons. Maybe the band thought that their album might be one of the only ones out during January/February and that can sometimes work in an artist's favor. "Drunk Last Night" is moving up nicely but it won't peak until after the holidays, sometime in early 2014.

BMLG seems really bad about this "two singles before the album comes out" thing. It's worked well with Thomas Rhett, but it's totally bitten Greg Bates on the butt. There should be no reason that someone has a Top 5 hit but no album in sight (Steel Magnolia, Sunny Sweeney — I'm lookin' at you).

They've been in the studio this week, according to their twitter/facebook. They even cancelled a show last week to spend time in the studio. I'm just hoping they're going to give us a full album and not another EP. I'm so tired of waiting forever, getting 5 song EPs and then waiting forever for a full album that's half old at that point.

This is stupid. They are going to release the 2nd single and then album. After that, they will release a 3rd single and then move on. Why would you buy the album if you know they have one more single left and then they are going to move on. It makes no sense. Because you're a fan of the group and are looking forward to an entirely new project from them? Why would you buy an entire album if all you want is the singles? Makes no sense. It appears that the new album will come out while a 2nd single is climbing the charts but there's no reason to just assume they'll only go 3 singles deep, especially when you consider the overall success so far of Drunk Last Night. They might, but they might not.

I buy Albums because I want to be able to hear all the songs that aren't singles. I really don't care what gets released to radio or even if nothing gets released to radio. I also wish everyone would put out a new Album once a year.

They move on after one year. What happened to a 2 year album cycle? Um, I *am* a fan, thanks, and I am eagerly waiting the release of the entire ALBUM. Like Layne, I don't particularly care how many singles are released from any project. I care about the product itself. If it's good, I'll buy it. If not, I pass. Simple as that. People don't buy albums as much because it's a singles landscape. I don't see how it has anything to do with the length of an album cycle. Fans look forward to new music, period, which is why there have been more EPs released in recent years - to give the fans more.

If you were a fan, you'd be upset if they released one more single and then they moved on. People wonder people don't buy albums anymore, this is why. They move on after one year. What happened to a 2 year album cycle? There are more artists on the market than radio can support, so anytime you get a low-peaking single, sometimes (probably most of the time) it's best to abandon the project and move on. A new lead single and ensuing album can re-establish momentum, whereas a single released later in an album cycle--perhaps a 4th or 5th single, following a song that missed the top 20 or so--will likely diminish momentum even further. As for the 2-year album cycle, who is releasing albums quicker than that? Not very many artists. Toby Keith and, more recently, Kenny Chesney, but that's about all I can think of. George Strait had a 20-month gap between his last 2 albums. Gary Allan...almost 3 years. Billy Currington...3 years almost to the day. Easton Corbin...2 1/2 years. Keith Urban...just short of 3 years. Lady Antebellum...about 20 months. Luke Bryan...2 years almost to the day. It's going to be more than 2 years between Dierks Bentley's Riser and Feb. 7, 2012 release date of Home. It's been well over 2 years since Eric Church's Chief came out. Carrie Underwood...2 1/2 years between Play On and Blown Away. Taylor Swift is on a 2-year album cycle. There's been more than 24 months between each of Miranda Lambert's album releases. And Eli Young Band? Life At Best came out in August 2011. Chances are, if someone doesn't buy an album during the first several months of its shelf life, they're not all that interested in either album or artist. The release of singles to radio can help an album to sell more copies, but it doesn't really help very much anymore these days.

The ad in Country Aircheck Weekly is calling for max spins now. I could have sworn there would be no way for EYB to get this to #1 on Mediabase. I had thought they were just out of luck due to the ridiculous push to get Parmalee's song an extra week at #1, and I still am not sure this will work, considering there's a pretty wide spin gap between FGL and EYB. No airplay chart was published this week, so I don't know where the two stand in points, though.
However, I guess I'll give this a 50/50 chance of getting to #1 on Mediabase for a few reasons. Republic does happen to have the advantage of having three songs in the top 5 right now, Darius' song is likely about to start falling, and the Lon Helton co-host schedule has EYB hosting next weekend, so they will get an extra spin boost, while ZBB isn't co-hosting until two weeks later, so it's possible that "Sweet Annie" will hang around in the top 5 a little while longer. On top of that, there's a decent gap that Eric Paslay, David Nail, and Cole Swindell have to close before they become "threats" to the songs currently in the top 5, so I guess there was some logic to Republic Nashville deciding to fight for the Mediabase #1 after all.
This song was selling really well at the beginning of its run and it seems pretty unfair if a truly big hit doesn't get credited for being #1 on any countdown shows while so many "manufactured" #1 songs do receive that title. The last chart before Christmas really should have been EYB's week at #1, and I think the label made a bit of a mistake not pushing for #1 then, which may cause DLN to burn more quickly since now it will take a big push to get to #1, but I guess I see why they're doing this. After all, Republic's motto is "Fight like apes."

This is not #1 today. "Stay" has out-gained the song pretty much every day this week. I'm pretty disappointed and a bit surprised, too. This seemed like a huge hit at first. BCU even published an article likening this to the Lady Antebellum song "Need You Now" a while back. Who would have thought that not only would the song be one of the few songs to be called a #2 peak by all the countdown shows, but that it would be blocked by another Republic Nashville song? I guess there's a very small possibility that because Eli Young Band is co-hosting Country Countdown USA this weekend and this song will keep the extra spin boost all the way through next Sunday, the label could possibly push the song one more week and keep trying for a Mediabase #1, but I don't think it would work. Sales have actually really tapered off for this song and "Sweet Annie" is already ahead in spins. I say that since this will probably go away with a #2 peak on Mediabase, Republic Nashville will want "Stay" to block other songs, too, especially "Sweet Annie." I can see the FGL song staying at #1 for the next two weeks while ZBB and TBP both get #2 peaks on both charts.

RadioTrax previewed 3 new EYB songs, presumably to help choose the next single. It was between "Dust," "Ten Thousand Towns," and "Just Add Moonlight." Of the three, "Dust" is the strongest lyrically (and would be my choice). However, I suspect they'll go with "Ten Thousand Towns" for album-title recognition. It's a well-sung song, and I enjoy it well enough, but it wasn't my favorite.
