The only question which matters; will this schlock replace 'Last Dollar' as the worst #1 single of his career? Haha, I predict it will match. Both are equally sucky!

I'm surprised to see it happening, but this should have a pretty clear path to number one next week. I wish it was with a better song, but I do have to say that I'm glad to see Tim having three number ones from an album in 2013. I'm hoping that the title track gets released as the next single. Even though they've already put four singles out, I still think this album has three or four single worthy tracks left on it.

Considering how the album is still fairly new and wasn't released until the second single was peaking, I'm betting at least one more single will come from this current record. I hope they pick one of the stronger cuts from the album, because he's 2 for 4 with singles this era imo (Truck Yeah and this tune being the detractors, while I loved the other two singles). It probably wouldn't get him a fourth consecutive No. 1 (unfortunately), but I'd love to see them opt for "Number 37405." That would just be a sublime choice to hear on radio. Either the title track or "Nashville Without You" would suffice though, and would probably be more likely candidates for country radio.

"Number 37405" , "Nashville Without You" or even "Book Of John" would be my picks. Anything is a move up as far as Im concerned . Hes already released the three worst tracks ....

Billboard Real Time Tracker just updated, up this early in the morning due to not being able to sleep, so I checked to see the latest and Tim is now #1 on the RTT for Billboard. Can he hold it and be #1 for Monday? He's more then likely #1 as I speak for Mediabase which will have the results from yesterday in a few hours. I was thinking Blake would be #1 come Monday for Billboard, and #2 for Mediabase with Tim #1 on Mediabase, and #2 for Billboard which would've been it's peak because if Blake would've been #1 for Billboard this Monday then more then likely he and Warner Bros would want the Mediabase #1 next weekend. Now it seems that Tim and Big Machine want #1 for both charts this weekend then next weekend can be Blake's turn. I am now thinking Tim/Tim this weekend for both Billboard/Mediabase, with Blake/Blake next weekend.
Country No.1 Tim McGraw Southern Girl ***would become Tim's 26th #1 to countryhistorian, but Billboard would acknowledge it as Tim's 27th #1 hit since they include "Bring On The Rain" with Jo Dee Messina. This would make McGraw to become tied with Alan Jackson with the MOST #1 Hits!!! +9503 Lady Antebellum Compass

This is so sad. When I was home for Fall break, I started to get a bad feeling about this not missing the penthouse due to me hearing it every doggone time I changed the station (+ "Hey Girl", "It Goes Like This", "Aw Naw", etc.). With this quasi-nightmare coming true, I now have more of an excuse to not listen to the radio and find other venues for entertainment.
I'll come back to rooting for him again if he releases the title track next; I cannot tell you how much that feels like a single to me.

I have to agree with someguy regarding the fact that I wish he'd reached the penthouse with a much better song.
While 'One Of Those Nights' in all likelihood will wind up #2 for the year at Mediabase behind the excruciating and downright horrendous 'Cruise', at least it's very nice to know that he's still getting A-1 material from Nashville's best songwriters, even if some of them aren't always selected as singles, and we wind up having to put up with stuff such as this for 4-5 months.

This song is a smash. Congrats to Tim on another #1. Can't wait to hear what the first single off the next record will be 1st qtr of 2014.

There's no intelligent reason for his label to wait that long; I expect the next single will be announced within two or three weeks tops.

Well I would say, since the album has already had four singles, that's usually the end of the album era, unless Big Machine decides to keep pushing singles. i think Let it Go album had about seven singles.

Big Machine has sent five singles to country from each of Taylor Swift's first three CDs (I am discounting Red as it is her current CD), so five from Tim McGraw would not be out of the question.

Record Labels often times will let a few weeks go by in between the last single from one record and the first single from another. Since its already Nov - I wouldn't surprised if Big Machine didn't use the next 8 weeks to set up and let a little anticipation build for a new single from a new record.

Is there any evidence that Tim's been in the studio recording new music though? Otherwise I'd guess we'll get a 5th single from Two Lanes Of Freedom, and they still have a lot of choices left.

This assumes he has a new album ready to go already, but I don't think any indication has been made to support this. Based on the timing of this era thus far with regards to the single releases, I'm thinking a fifth single is almost a given. The album isn't even a year old yet.

I was hoping he'd release one of the ballads to end the era. I like the title track but I really like "Annie I Owe You a Dance", Tinted Windows or even Friend of a Friend to close out an era and go through the winter months.

I haven't read anything regarding a new CD from Tim, and with so many standout tracks left on this wonderful CD, I'm also inclined to think that a fifth single would be a no-brainer.
His stint with faith at the Venetian in Las Vegas continues through April, but only during select weekends, so a fifth single would definitely tide him over until that engagement ends.

I hadn't heard anything of this sort. That said, I don't think this means new music is necessarily on the near horizon, and I still feel like Big Machine would probably rather release at least one more single from his current set, because the project is still quite new and he's riding pretty high right now, so it's not as if his momentum doesn't lend itself to another single. The title track, for instance, has a chance to give him a fourth No. 1 hit from the record. And if he goes with one of the ballads, he may not get another chart-topper, but he may have another impactful release like he did recently with "Better Than I Used to Be." He has nothing to lose imo.

Anyone that works in or around publishing and songwriting on music row knows that Tim went in and cut a bunch of new songs this summer and early fall. Two lanes Of Freedom only sold 1,700 copies last week ... record sales that low says its time to move on to the next record.

I can't remember the last time I disliked the top three songs on the Mediabase chart, though I'm sure I can find a few examples. "Southern Girl" and "It Goes Like This" are both boring, and lyrically bad, even though Rhett's is less of a violater than Tim's uncreative, dull, uninspired, vocally unappetizing single. And "Mine Would Be You" is so boring I'm afraid to listen to it while driving, in fear of falling asleep at the wheel. Luckily there's some hope down the chart with Joe, Parmalee, EYB, The Band Perry, ZBB, and David Nail.
As for the # 1 song. It won't take much for Tim to top "Southern Girl". He does have plenty of choices for a final single. One of the serious ballads would be a welcome listen ("Number 37405"). Plus it's only fair he releases at least one more from Two Lanes Of Freedom cause Big Machine has already given us the two worst songs from this album by a landslide.

Well folks, judging from today's update for this song, things seem to point to a Tim for Mediabase win/Blake for Billboard win from yesterday and today. It seems that Big Machine pushed for the Mediabase #1 and quit pushing for it yesterday since it gained 0 spins and lost audience, and Blake got the push with over 100 spins increase and also a jump in audience. I am thinking that Blake is #1 on Billboard as I type this with Tim at #2. I think now that if, JUST IF Blake is #1 this weekend which we will find out in a few hours, then you can be certain that his label will go gunning for the #1 this weekend for Mediabase. So I see Tim peaking at #2 for Billboard and shall start to fall as we saw in today's update and Blake shall hold strong at #1 for this week with Chris Young moving to #2 POSSIBLY by week's end. Too early to say still though. So if Blake is #1 then he shall have 2 weeks on top of the Billboard Airplay chart with 1 week on Mediabase.

I just posted in the Miranda "All Kinds Of Kinds" thread about not always using the CC-USA co-hosting schedule to figure out how the chart weeks will be divided up, but that could come into play here. Blake co-hosted the show Saturday & Sunday, but Tim is co-hosting this coming weekend...will "Southern Girl" manage to hang around for another week, or is it indeed done?
The #1 spot on Billboard tonight looks like it will definitely be a toss-up.

I was just figuring that if Blake is #1 this week for Billboard but not for Mediabase then I see him being #1 for Mediabase this weekend since Warner Bros. will want that #1 on that chart as well.

I know you weren't using the co-hosting schedule. Someone else ( churchchoir) had brought it up in the Miranda thread, to which I replied I wasn't sure if it meant much there, but in this case I think it's different. I don't think the charts are 'ridiculously rigged' (though there is too much manipulation, that's for sure). The labels can see, just as we chart watchers can, how well their songs are gaining and they get kind of an idea in their minds as to when their song will peak, so then they go out and book a show like CC-USA a few weeks in advance, that way they can have their artist on the countdown when his/her/their song is about to peak. I agree with your scenario that Tim might get stuck with the Mediabase-only #1 and Blake will get the MB #1 next weekend (along with 2 weeks at #1 on BB), but tonight's BB chart is going to be close and it could go either way.

I hate to bring CC-USA up in yet another discussion, because I know the extent to which those extra spins dictate who does their final push when is really questionable, but if this continues to be a really close race for the next week, and Blake gets Billboard tonight, things will work out perfectly next Monday as Blake loses the countdown spins he gained today and Tim gains the countdown spins for co-hosting this coming weekend. Then, the two can flip flop next week. However, I think "Southern Girl" will just barely snatch the #1 on Billboard today and then start falling this week, so the countdown spins will be meaningless and Blake will have no trouble getting to the top of both charts next weekend.

Looks like Blake Shelton got the #1 on Billboard according to the chart highlights that were just posted. Guess this just missed out then, given all the discussion about it being pretty close.

#1 in Canada! Congratulations to Tim McGraw on the two C.M.A. wins. Does anyone think Southern Girl will reach #1 or will he settle for #2?
