Rippin' & tearin' & strippin' I'm working on {a box set} right now. The record company came to me and said, 'You know, it's been 25 years, let’s put out a box set.' But I didn't want to just say, 'OK, here's my songs again.' I think my fans will enjoy some of these other things so I started going back into the vaults and into my storage space and found some tapes I hadn't even remembered. So it's going to be eight CDs and there's live tracks, covers, solo demo tracks, a recording of me made when I was 14, everything that didn't make it onto an album, pictures and videos. I even found a TV show I did back in 1982 in L.A. ... I don't remember the exact date right off, but it will be in November.

Melissa Etheridge is using a little history as part of latest workIt's going great. I can't believe it. I've found so much stuff it's unbelievable. I've been working on it for six months. It's been a treasure hunt. I'm ... finding songs I forgot I ever recorded. Lots of new material and new images. It's for the fans. It's very fan-connected.
Etheridge can't wait for her musical re-discoveries to appear. They include her first album that was rejected by (Island Records') Chris Blackwell, she said. It has an early heavy '80s keyboards feel. Then I made the (self-titled 1988 debut) album everybody knows. In four days. Another CD will be "The '80s Mis-Takes" - a bunch of things I did when I was trying to get a record deal. She also found film of a 1993 show in The Netherlands during which audience members flicked their BICs in rhythm with "Like The Way I Do": The audience was absolutely amazing.

Interview With Melissa Etheridge: When is your 25 Year Anniversary Boxed Set coming out? Hopefully, if I can get myself together, I tell everyone it is like landing a dirigible. It is just this massive collection of stuff that I am whittling through. It should be out at the end of November. This has been such a fun project. There are quite a few songs that never made it on albums. I didn't know there were so many things that I could release. It is probably going to be about 6 CDs worth of stuff. It is crazy. There is some live stuff, some covers, and some solo stuff it is pretty amazing.
Are you working on anything new? I know that your last album, 4th Street Feeling, is just coming up on the one year mark. No, I haven't started writing yet. Well, little things here and there. Well with the box set, I actually went back into the studio with my original musicians, Kevin and Fritz. I recorded old songs new. That I am probably going to release next year after the box set. All kinds of stuff, just been having fun.
Any favorite songs that you are reworking that just hit you and meant a lot? Maybe a wow moment? Well, yeah. There is one from 1995 called 'One Way Out.' It is just so rockin'. I just love it. It is fun because sometimes when I got too rocking I would scare myself and back off. That is what I am finding like these great songs and crazy rock tunes that I just backed away from. Not anymore, they are gonna be rockin'. I am redoing them with the old musicians so it has that old feeling but I am not holding anything back. So they will be great new songs.

She has new management, and they have postponed the box set. Now, the brand new album comes out early next year, and the box set late next year. The new song, "Uprising Of Love," is releasing in January. We have worked so hard to create change and equality for the LGBT community in the US and it's shocking to see such backwards movement in Russia. This song is a direct call to action for people to get involved, become vocal, and connect directly with this serious issue. ... I felt that we needed to go into the new year creating an international uprising of love to let the LGBT people of Russia know that they are not alone, and that the rest of the world is here to help. You can hear "Uprising Of Love (Bent Collective Radio Edit)" here, and you can see her perform "Uprising Of Love," "I'm The Only One," "Bring Me Some Water," and "Imagine" on New Year's Eve.

I've been wanting to go to World Pride in Toronto since I heard about it a few years ago but I can't because we're going to Boston at the end of June instead. :( we're seeing Gaga but still!

Melissa tweeted that she's working on the video treatment for the first single, titled "Take My Number." I guess the track that was released earlier this year, "Uprising Of Love," was simply to capitalize on the Olympics in Russia and the charity she founded. I like it, so I hope it's included on the album as a bonus track. I've been wanting to go to World Pride in Toronto since I heard about it a few years ago but I can't because we're going to Boston at the end of June instead. we're seeing Gaga but still! Have you seen all of the performers announced so far? Melissa is headlining the opening ceremonies, but concerts throughout the festival are set to include k.d. lang, Chely Wright, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tegan & Sara, and more. I would so love to be there, but I have to work and have already taken time off for another concert the week before.

For the M.E. fans, here's my article/interview with her- she's playing pretty much in my backyard this weekend, and it will be my first time seeing her live. Looking forward to it. :)

Melissa has been doing 30-minute concerts from home every night for a month now on Facebook Live. All the past performances are available on her Facebook page. I've loved watching her tell stories about all the songs.. great stories, and she has such a down to earth and comforting personality which is really nice in a time like this. I love Melissa's 80's and 90's albums but hadn't been paying as much attention to a lot of her music over the past decade or so.. but these concerts have really made me fall in love with her again.
