Not easy to get into the all time top 20.
These rankings are based strictly on Hot 100 and Bubbling Under chart rank performance from 1955 - 2013.
Wow at Taylor, Usher and Rihanna!
How far between Madonna and Mariah?

I gather the methodology hasn't changed? Though the points for "featurings" may have.
This list is one way to look at top acts;, Billboard's system would be another (and probably the best yet, IMO).

Featurings get zero
"No points are awarded for any artists showing the FEAT designation followed by a list of names for which the artist was a featured GUES. only the lead artist is awarded the points"

Other changes:
This book has territorial and breakout hits
Hits labeled X feat Y are now shown only under artist X
Under the artist Bio is the list of featurings which are not counted in all-time totals(starteing with FEAT: followed by the list of lead artists who did the songs)
Somgwriters are listed
Hits are listed in chronological order
(excepted 2 sided hits where the A charted after the B)
The is a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee and nominee section
In artist listings, lines are drawn to physically separate decades to improve readability

Ranking of Glee Cast if he had not chosen to exclude it: 2010s #1 All Time: #2 If that's the case then I don't think he's giving enough weight to "big" hits vs. "small" hits.. Taylor outranking Rihanna may be further proof of that.

Glee had 279 entries(including bubbling under) through episode 2 of season 4
The sheer volume would put them up there
Note: gained only 2 more after the cutoff date so they would now stand at 281

Just got it tonight. Huge improvement from last edition.
Love that we are back to pure chronological listings, and they have limited the crazy three month re-entry policy.
Not sure how I feel about relegating "Featured" hits to the Lead Artist's section. I understand that 75% of collabos are throw away money-grabs, but what about major hook-laden songs like "Live Your Life", "Nothin' On You" or "Love the Way You Lie" which are essentially duets and HUGE hits for Bruno Mars and Rihanna. Now no longer counting? Doesn't seem right.

Hmm, if features are no longer counted, how did Christina move up 12 spots?

Ludacris fell 40 spots
Christina Aguilera hit the Hot 100 4 times which got enough points to leapfrog over several inactive artists that were between 100 and 111

Good God, I wonder how many slots Lil' Wayne and Nicki Minaj would jump? I see why he opted to keep them out.

Is Whitburn still awarding acts full points for duets? Billboard splits the points (which makes sense). And, BB does give "featurings" credit, but the 30% left are divided by the number of featured acts.
While the BB methodology is great, it misses Elvis Presley's first couple of years of huge hits. So that is a positive for Whitburn's book/coverage. They're both measuring different things, though, in that BB's methodology looks at tracks' weekly positions, while Whitburn's is simpler, giving a set number of points only for peak position, and then adding in weeks on the chart.
I know for sure that Glee Cast would not be anywhere close to No. 2 on Billboard's all-time acts list. :)

Artist X featuring Artist Y
is given different treatment than the billing of
Artist X & Artist Y or
Artist X duet with Artist Y
In the latter 2 examples, Artist Y contributes much more to the song and therefore continues to receive credit
Featured artists often do not have more than 30 seconds and may only be listed as a promotional or marketing tool for the song.
Ludarcris dropped from #77 to #117 in the all-time rankings because the featured credits were taken away

Should add that Kelly Clarkson's ranking is increasing and should be top 100 by the time he publishes another edition

Thanks, 2m. So I gather that "&" and "With" credits both receive the full points. In Billboard's methodology, "Duet With" is split evenly, though for "With," the main act gets 70% and then the "with" gets split evenly among the acts (if more than one).

Yeah, those are listed by weeks at No. 1. Billboard's top 10 list would look totally different.

^Yes- and "I Gotta Feeling," which didn't factor last time, would rank pretty high (higher than "We Belong Together," as it had a longer chart run). Would be interesting to see where some of the big hits from the last five years would end up.
