I don't think this sounds like "Cruise" at all. Earlier in the thread, there was comparison of this to FGL's song, but no one every said that the two sound alike. The comparison is in that the two are following extremely similar paths in reagrds to sales and airplay. Also, there are a few similar elements, such as the lack of music before the singing begins and starting the song with the hook, but I don't see how the two sound alike. The vocals on this are definitely less twangy. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the two as sonically similar. I agree with you completely. The two songs have a similar subject. That's about it. The subject was the only reason I made a comparison between the two songs in my earlier post. To me "Chillin It" has much better lyrics especially in the verses. The best being "Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be", and "Hard lookin' left when my world is on my right". It's a very feel good song, and even though less twangy, it's got a more country song feel to it than "Cruise". I think people see Cole open for FGL and Luke, and automatically lump him in with the recent movement. He is capable of more than just bro-country (Or whatever we're calling it these days) with writing songs like "Outta My Head", and "Roller Coaster".....I seriously doubt FGL is capable of writing those two great songs.

Can't speak for everyone, but I think the melody of the chorus sounds similar to that of "Cruise". They're exactly the same tempo and have similar chord patterns, but I think "Chillin' It" is in a lower key.

I would add that the melody is almost a carbon copy as well.

^Can we please talk about how awkward he is in this video? What is with all these hand movements?? Maybe he thought he was being cool? Anyway, I was on a road trip a couple weeks ago and heard this song so many times on so many stations I lost count. I changed it each and every time; It's catchy, like all this type of music is, but that's about the only thing positive I can say about it.

Yup, most of that is Rapper style gesturing. Although quite awkward, lol, looks odd in this case. That video doesn't make me like the song any better (not that I love it, but I do find it tolerable compared to the similar Chase Rice song).

He always does the hand gestures. I saw him at cma fest and he did it there too. I don't think he has developed his stage performance just yet.

Michael Monaco (who does all the live footage/LBTV for Luke Bryan) and Shaun Silva directed it. The video is a little cheesy for sure. He does do those hand movements all the time. He doesn't play guitar much at his shows.

In fact it's why musicians always borrow from others.

Saw Cole at a radio charity concert this week, and can I just say I was totally taken aback by how talented he was? I've always been mystified by the success of "Chillin' It," and I guess I didn't realize how many songs he's written ("Outta My Head," "Get Me Some of That," etc.) and that he co-wrote all the best songs on Luke Bryan's new album. Anyway, the crowd LOVED him - I would not be surprised at all if his "Brought To You By Beer" became the next huge summer song. I mean, he may as well be the third member of Florida Georgia Line, but after seeing him live and how the audience responded, I really do think he could have serious staying power.

I've been watching these videos of this song live with Cole and Luke Bryan. Almost seems like a joke the way they're jumping around the stage in skinny jeans and doing their hands like rappers. I used to really like Luke. I can't remember exactly when it happened, but at some point he became more about dancing in sparkly pants than playing guitar and singing.

I've never seen Luke Bryan in sparkly pants. Do you have a picture? Luke has an affinity for sparkling glitter pants. I think he specifically shops for them for that reason. You didn't see the CMA's last year?

It seems like you're suggesting that I'm exaggerating or bending the truth to fit my opinion of someone. That's how I took your question anyway. "I've never seen Luke in sparkle pants...do you have a picture" is somewhat accusatory. Kind of like saying "Prove it". I find myself having to defend my opinions on this site quite often. Just a couple of weeks ago I was given quite the verbal spanking about how this site is open to all opinions, and we don't get on people for having differing mindsets about things. So, to satiate your curiosity and to clear up anyone's opinion that I'm making things up, here are some links talking about Luke's sparkle pants. From a couple years ago I guess... www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrP7q2XgePA&feature=player_detailpage The pants clearly sparkle, but not as much as Luke wanted them to apparently! www.crookandchase.com/articles/-home---this-week-405449/luke-bryan---pants-on-10528139/?vm=rCountry music news also made note of the sparkling jeans: www.countrymusicnewsblog.com/2011-cma-awards-winners/?vm=rDo a search on Luke Bryan Sparklepants and there are tons of people that hold the same opinion that I do that Luke likes flamboyantly colorful and shimmering attire. I'm not the only one that's noticed. Farce the music had a joke track list of Luke's upcoming album, and one of the songs listed was "Glitter Jeans and Turnip Greens" Anyway, there's a few pictures, videos, and articles about his sparkle pants. Let me know if I haven't proven my statement to be true, even though one's opinion need not be proven, according to the moderators and the mantra of this message board. I was wrong about the year, though. You're right, the opening with Jason Aldean and Luke didn't include any rhinestone studded pants. :) I guess this has gotten off topic quite a bit. I'm sorry. About this song...I think it's pretty catchy. I don't really care for Cole's live performances. His voice sounds weak to me, especially when singing side by side with Luke. Maybe that's just an experience thing.

^ Pretty spirited debate for Sparkling Pants?....Lol.
To the point of Cole and Luke doing the hand gestures. It has gotten to the point where that's all I pay attention to now. They could just do what AJ or George do and simply pat on their guitar while they sing. Having that guitar in hand solves many problems of hand placement.

After all, when I see Luke Bryan, I am certainly not looking at his pants that close to see if they sparkle. Even in my original comment, I was not insinuating anything. I had even said I never seen him in sparkling pants. I am sorry that you have to defend your position(s) as often as you claim. That is part of the price for posting things on a website like this. Now, after seeing the links you provided here, I do see where you are coming from. Again, I did not say anything was fabricated in your statement. I am sure others have noticed his jeans and have said something. I do find you to be a very knowledgeable poster and love having you here. Please stay here and keep up the good work!

CountryHistorian and I have had this same discussion before, where he suggests I'm making something up by asking me to prove something I've said. I was just giving the sources because I was asked. (I think Country Historian is an excellent poster and a very nice person, for the record!) I completely agree about having a guitar in hand. Something about those hand gestures makes me think of Vanilla Ice or something. It's hard to pay attention to the song because of the jumping around and hand slapping and stuff. It's not just Luke and Cole, either. If Eric Church didn't have an instrument in his hands during his songs I think his hands would fly clean off his wrists. Just saw your post, Country, and so I don't double post I'll just edit this one. I'm not going anywhere. We can chit chat back and forth, I think we both have thick enough skin that we're not going to go home crying over this discussion. :)

Isn't "Chillin' It" exactly the type of song that makes an artist a big star these days? It has great vocals and a great melody, plus the lyrics and theme are exactly what radio and listeners "eat up" these days. I thought the song was moving up quickly for a debut single and it seemed to me that Cole Swindell was shaping up to become a consistent hit-maker.

He's got some material that has potential hit written all over it.
In particular, there's a song called "Dozen Roses and a Six Pack" or something along those lines that I think could be huge for him.
