I guess for me is I got used to seeing 1 to 4 add's a week for the last few months. Sometimes there was a few more but it wasn't like this week at all. So it was surprising to see it in the top added songs on mediabase and billboard. I think the last time it got this many was during the first few weeks it was out. I keep holding on that it will kick start. Like I said recently in this post I would honestly be happy for a peak anywhere between 30-40. I get the feeling that UMG will release this album regardless of where this song peaks. While an amazing peak would be great I don't see them holding this album back if it doesn't. I say that because they have made such a big deal announcing the release date and putting it out there all over the ASCAP and CMA red carpet, press announcements, etc. But yeah, I am hoping for some kind of miracle where this song will take off and exceed my expectations at this point. Don't get me wrong, I love the song and Jennifer but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. I just want her to succeed as a solo artist.

I was a little surprised when I saw how many add's it got. But I'm glad it did. Hopefully it will continue to climb now. sabre14 I will say my mom was the same way. She didn't care for it completely when I played it for her at first but now loves it and asks me to play it for her when I'm in the car. Though sadly our station doesn't play it outside of the 9pm-12am time frame so it's off my ipod but still, it grew on her. I have heard that from some others too! I meant to ask you, rsmatto, about the Nashville show. Do you have any song titles that you can share? I have nine out of twelve with only eight confirmed to be on the album. Confirmed: Like A Rock, Jealousy, This Angel, That Girl, Know You Wanna Know, Me Without You, Thank You & Falling. Unconfirmed: A Good Time to Cry. I'm trying to piece together the last few songs but it seems no one is tweeting or posting anything about the songs outside of how good she was or how good they sounded. I wasn't sure if people were asked not to talk about it or what really so I thought I'd ask you. I wish I could help you but I wasn't writing any of the titles down. But I'm pretty sure she sang something like "A Good Time to Cry" there.

It's okay, thank you though! I figured it didn't hurt to ask you! I'm just curious about the rest of the titles but I'll survive until she releases them whenever that may be within the next few months.

Oh I know but her camp and team is something a little slow with announcing things. They'll tease things for weeks to a few months then reveal it. The tour was the most recent. It was teased back in September and just announced. Anyway this tweet just went out from Jennifer's twitter account. Basically it's asking people to like her facebook page and encourage others to do it to reveal the cover of her album. @jennifernettles Can't wait to share the new music with you on Jan. 14! Want to take a peek at the album cover? zip2.it/nettles

I think this is the week "That Girl" cracks the Billboard Top 40. The Henningsens' collapse is really working in her favour.

Finally top 40 on Billboard, moving 41-37* and passing Little Big Town in the process. I know it's a small thing to be happy about in terms of success, but I'm really glad that this made it. The next goal is to survive the onslaught of holiday music.
Go figure being excited about breaking the top 40 in week 16. Initially when I heard Jennifer was releasing a solo single, I thought she might debut in the top 40.

According to Aircheck, she moves 40-38 this week, which means she got Bob Kingsley spins this past weekend, which in turn means her gains, small to begin with, look even less impressive. That's discouraging. I think the song could last through the holidays, but I suspect she'll pull it in favor of a new song in mid-January. And I was penciling this in for a future top 10....

I think she's been in the Mediabase top 40 for a few weeks now, so her gains shouldn't reflect countdown spins, as she's had countdown spins in her total airplay for a little while now. That aside, I agree that her gains have been discouraging. If this doesn't take off in a decent way after the holidays, I agree that we could see a second single in January timed around the album's release.

X Factor is drawing terrible ratings, so nowhere near as many people will see it as The Voice or Idol, but one of the acts on the show has gotten a few decent showings on iTunes following the show. So, it's possible it'll get a little boost in sales.

I never got into X Factor outside of last year when I discovered Tate on the show. So I have no idea really what the draw was. I figured it wasn't as high as the other shows but still. It's still exciting she is getting a chance to perform on the show though. I was hoping for a presenting spot at the ACA's but that doesn't seem to be happening. I do appreciate that UMG is releasing the album despite the fact the song is kind of hanging out in the lower 30's rather than delaying it.

I found this quote from Jennifer interesting about the choice of this single. Curious to see what the second single will be then as this single seems about down. It's been slipping back down into the 40's for the past few weeks. I know it's holiday season and all but still, it started slipping before that. Why was ‘That Girl’ chosen as the first single from your solo album? “I was surprised when the label came back and said they thought ‘That Girl’ (written by Nettles and Butch Walker) is the first single, because it’s so different from the rest of the album – and so different from Sugarland! But that’s exactly why they chose it. They wanted everyone to know this is a Jennifer Nettles album, not a Sugarland album. I mean, if your solo album sounds like your ensemble work, what’s the point? They wanted a first single that would celebrate and express just how different this music is going to be.” www.cmacloseup.com/2013/11/26/jennifer-nettles-hot-topics/

I love Jennifer and almost everything Sugarland has ever done (except I didn't like most of The Incredible Machine), but this song was just not good. I'm hoping the rest of her album won't be a disappointment as well. Luckily, it sounds like "That Girl" is nothing like the rest of her album.

The clips that have been released on iTunes sound nothing like this song. I guess like she said that was the thing they wanted to make sure it sounded completely different than Sugarland. It wasn't the best choice. It's a good song and catchy but of the songs I have hard fully? It wasn't the best choice. Jealousy is probably the most played on my ipod outside of Me Without You and Falling. I have some of the acoustic versions she did on her radio tour. She could really do something with those or probably anything from the rest of the album to be honest. I am just hoping that in the next few weeks they'll release a new single. Oh, Target has a picture up of the new album but it doesn't list other songs on the sticker like most album's have. Where it will say featuring this song, this song and this song. It just says "From the Voice of Sugarland, The Solo debut of Jennifer Nettles featuring "That Girl"." For those curious, Target seems like the only place to get the deluxe version in a cd format, iTunes for digital.

Seems like a strange choice that the label went with this as the lead single because it sounded like nothing Sugarland would record nor any other songs on the album. What good does that really serve? Distance herself from the fanbase of a popular band while simultaneously mis-representing the overall sound of her album?
I didn't like this song at all, so I'm hoping the rest of the album is much better than this track. Though I'm not quite holding my breath just yet, it makes me a little more optimistic hearing that this single is supposedly an anomaly.

I really, really liked this, so it's disappointing to see it peak so low. I think it is done though unfortunately, which puts her in a bit of a bad spot since the album will be out in a couple of weeks. Maybe they'll judge fan reaction to help choose the second single?
Thanks for letting us know about the Target exclusive. Is the only thing different two extra tracks?

^Yep. There are two extra tracks, same ones that are on the iTunes deluxe preorder. Which to be honest, I loved the clips for those songs. They leaned a bit more country than the rest of the album. His Hands and Every Little Thing are the bonus tracks. I know she had 10 songs or so left over once they set the track listing. She said she was going to hold onto them if she could and possibly release them down the road somehow. Possibly another album or EP. She didn't really specify but she seemed to love the songs enough to want to hold onto them even though they didn't fit or make this album.
Also she has two promo appearances lined up for next month. Yahoo! Ram Country Live show (live streaming from NYC) on January 16th and The View which doesn't have a date just yet. I would be shocked personally if she didn't do Good Morning America again. They have always been good about having Sugarland/Jennifer on to promote things. They were her first TV appearance with That Girl. But yeah, it seems they will probably have her doing a bunch of promo for the release in New York and probably LA since she is doing stuff there Grammy weekend.

Thanks for the info. There was nothing on Wikipedia about it, so I didn't know to look for a deluxe edition. I'll have to see if I can find one somewhere when the album comes out.

^ You're welcome. Like I mention they do have 1:30 clips on iTunes on the deluxe version if you wanted to check that out! It'll give a good idea, hopefully, what everything will sound like. To me it fit how she described it and how those who heard it in the industry over the summer did.

I was looking through Jennifer's promotional schedule for next week. One of the stated she will be singing "Falling" from the new album. It's a ballad that was inspired by a picture she was sent by a designer. Basically she said it was a game of telephone a person would get some form of art (picture, painting, song, poem, etc) and they were given a week to come up with something to represent that. It would be sent onto someone else and so on. The song though basically talks about a young woman encountering an young man who was working on ger farm. Not only does she loose her innocence but the young man leaves once he is done to go back college in the fall. You can here an acoustic version hereBut her promotional schedule (so far) for those curious Jan 14th: Today Show & Letterman Jan 15th: The View Jan 16th: Yahoo! Ram Country Live Jan 17th: The Chew

I'm a little worried about how the album will sell. I was hoping that a second single would have been released by now, since "That Girl" never really took off. Maybe they'll pick it based off of fan reaction this week? At least she's out there promoting, but I'm thinking that we won't see very good numbers for this.

Mine is all pre-ordered through iTunes. Can't wait to hear the full product after months of acoustic versions and now clips. I'm beyond ready for the full production/product. I am curious to see what she performs on Tuesday for the shows she'll be on. The View is the one she's doing Falling on like I mentioned above. Maybe at some point this coming week we'll get a hint on the new single. Also Tennessean gave her the cover story today. It was a great read.Something to keep in mind to those buying the album don't expect it to be like a Sugarland album or sound like it. I think that is very clear but I have heard a few people on twitter and tumblr talk about how they hope it sounds like Sugarland when it won't. This even comes from that article I just shared from someone who is working with Jennifer at the label. “(Nettles) just got to a place with Sugarland where she needed to have a new way to invest in her career and change and grow creatively, and she did that with this record,” Cindy Mabe said. “ It’s not a Sugarland record. No one is going to confuse the two. She’s never sounded better, and the songs and time frame takes you to a whole different place. You feel like you’re following a character in this album, and that’s interesting. It’s hard to stay interesting in this business.”

My closest friend is friends with a DJ at a radio station and he has received a copy of this album. He doesn't like he but he thinks I will be rather happy with it. He says that her single is probably the closest to "country", which I am thankful for since I don't listen to this genre anymore.
He would classify it as more of the "singer/songwriter" genre (which is the genre I am quite a fan of) and he says it is rather ballad heavy (which he and most of you on here know, is my style of song).
It sounds like I am going to be in heaven with this album but I am waiting to buy on Tuesday from Target since they have bonus tracks.
He was going to send me the album if I wanted, but I have kept myself sheltered and only heard That Girl (and I waited to hear the full single version). I refuse to find snippets of any of the other songs because I want to hear them firsthand on the album.

Jennifer tweeted that she'll be singing Falling tomorrow on the Today show. As well it was listed with That Girl on the Target commercial she has this week. It's a good song one that grew one me a lot since I heard it for the first time in October 2012 but not my favorite from what I heard. It feels like a good late summer/fall song rather than later winter/spring song if it is the single. I guess it's wait and see if this song is the official second single or just a song she's doing randomly on a few shows.
Edit: For those that haven't picked up the album or would like to hear it before doing so Spotify has the entire album up.

I don't think it's the new single just yet, just a song she is doing on a few appearances. She also pretaped a second song, Know You Wanna Know, to be aired on Friday. I mean her label just tweeted this about the today show "@umgnashville - In case you missed it, watch @jennifernettles on the @todayshow performing a brand new song from her debut solo album on.today.com/1ckxv2R" To me if it was the single wouldn't they have said brand new single rather than just a brand new song? I'm so torn about that song. I love it and loved the live performance but it feels like odd timing like I said before. Hopefully some official confirmation will come along.
