Folks, I'm seeing a trend of people quoting stories here without posting links back to the original site. Please make sure that if you are quoting anything or posting a factual claim from an outside source that you link back to the original site so that we know exactly where it is coming from (and can make our own assessments as to the reliability of the site). And speaking of reliability, I'd like to encourage posters here to bypass sites like examiner.com and gather.com in favor of the original sources, since those sites are generally unvetted news aggregators, not generators of credible original content. Thanks in advance.

Apologies for not posting a link to the original source; here's the tweet from Big Machine's twitter: twitter.com/bigmachineThanks, but there was no apology necessary -- you had posted the "@bigmachine" in your original comment, which at least made it clear that the source of the teaser was the Big Machine Twitter account. My post wasn't actually in reference to yours, though of course, your link to the Twitter account itself is appreciated!

The gist...If mongrel chart existed back in the 2000s, we'd have seen:
Carrie - Before He Cheats (40 weeks @ #1) Lady A - Need You Now (33 weeks @ #1) Taylor - Love Story (33 weeks @ #1)
I suspect "Cruise" might be #1 on mongrel chart for at least another 6-8 weeks possibly, so it'll end up being #1 for ~28-30 weeks. Hard to imagine 33 weeks @ #1 since it'd be mid-October by then.

This is a continuation of my post from the "Dance Baby Dance" thread where someone brought up the idea of one of today's most played country artists eventually releasing an album of traditional country music (assuming it'll recall the 80s, 90s, or maybe even the early 2000s). For mostly selfish reasons (or maybe not), I'd more than love for Carrie to release a predominantly country album (i.e. no country-pop she's more than well-known for), but the last two singles of hers - TBC and SYA - give me the sense that the general public and maybe our radio programmers are putting her in a box which merely prohibits her from releasing something as bold as "Cupid's Got a Shotgun" or "Wine After Whiskey". Yeah, the former of the pair is the most polarizing, but any one of those two could show some casual fans that she can sing actual country as well as the adult-pop leaning fare that's currently being displayed these days. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate TBC and SYA; I suppose I'm just a little concerned for the general public's perception of Carrie's recent output, singles-wise. I didn't necessarily mention "Do You Think About Me" or "One Way Ticket" mostly because I don't find them to be as bold as CGAS and WAW sonically. Then again, with FGL's debut effort selling like hot cakes, Blake having better luck with his current album, and the enormous amount Luke will sell from Crash My Party, we may not even receive such an album for today's prime time country radio artists without having some type of backlash or significant decrease in sales/success.

One of my all time favorite Alan Jackson albums is "Under the Influence." Given he was a traditional artist covering traditional songs it wasn't far stretch for him, but he got 2 #1s back to back with covers..."Pop a Top" and "It Must be Love." Many teens like I was at the time had never heard most of the songs on the album and it made me fall in love with Country music's past even more. I would love to see something like this happen again. Carrie would be great at one of these albums but it could kill her momentum if it failed. Brad Paisley is one who I could see pulling off an album like Alan did cause he is now 15 years in and has "been there, done that" by now. That's why he took such a risk on his new album, which to many did not pay off as Brad as seen as the traditional yet modern superstar. He could really redeem himself with a hardcore "Under the Influence" type album and Brad doesn't seem to have momentum on his mind at the moment anyway.

Pop A Top and It Must Be Love actually weren't back to back. Between them was The Blues Man, which stalled at #37. I believe that was an actual single; it's listed as such on Wikipedia. Pop A Top peaked at #6 on Billboard, but I don't know about other charts.
Nitpicking aside, I love that album too. always enjoy these tribute albums when I like the singers recording the tributes.

I'm really, really liking "Love Is War" by American Young (released to iTunes/Spotify/etc today). I've been a Jon Stone fan for YEARS...so I may be a little bias, but I think this would be an excellent fit at radio if it's released as a single. There was an ad for this song in last night's Country Aircheck Weekly. But, like any of the other Curb/Sidewalk artists (Andy Gibson, Dylan Scott, Morgan Frazier, Rachel Holder, Sweetwater Rain, LeAnn Rimes) who've had singles recently, I don't expect it to do much. Sweetwater Rain's only single barely got on the chart but none of the others have done anything. It's not exaggeration to say that the only Curb artist currently having success at radio is Lee Brice. Rodney Atkins is supposed to have a new single out soon and he could probably get it up the chart, but that's about it when it comes to Curb.

I'm a little bummed out that they left " The Fear Of Being Alone" and " I'd Rather Ride Around With You" off the lists as i thought they were fairly big hits and two of my favorites besides " The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter". Still a great list though

^The Fear Of Being Alone is chart wise, Reba McEntire's biggest #2 hit (for three weeks in late 1996). Who blocked her? Alan Jackson with Little Bitty. I'd Rather Ride Around With You was also a #2 (in 1997). Only It's Your Love by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill did better.

Luke Bryan added a 2nd show in Nashville Bridgestone Arena - curiously with Dierks Bentley/Cole Swindell as opening acts!
Possible preview of the 2014 Crash My Party STADIUM tour? Hmm...

Dierks is set to headline again this fall into next year in support of Riser. It's certainly possible he might do some dates with Luke but I'd be surprised (and, frankly, annoyed) if he joins a full Luke tour.

I mean as far as I can tell I don't see Steve Holy's new single anywhere on the chart and he's the biggest "star" out of the recent wave of C/S singles.

Looks like it is FINALLY over between Tim McGraw and Curb Records according to the Boot:
A federal judge has decided that Curb Records’ lawsuit against Tim McGraw is not ready to proceed at the federal level.
According to Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper, US District Judge William H. Haynes ruled Friday (Aug. 9), saying state courts have not yet weighed in on the two parties’ contract dispute, as well as rights to past recordings. He administratively closed the federal case.
It’s the latest round in a complicated series of legal disputes that date back to May of 2011, when Curb filed suit against the ‘Southern Girl’ singer, alleging breach of contract. The label claimed that McGraw turned in his ‘Emotional Traffic’ album too quickly, in violation of a contract clause that obligated him to space his albums at least 18 months apart. Curb refused to release the album, while McGraw argued that it fulfilled his contract.
The singer filed a countersuit, saying Curb had kept him in an ongoing state of “involuntary servitude” by forcing him to wait so long to record new albums. His filing claimed that was a way to stretch out his contract indefinitely. McGraw’s suit also alleged that Curb’s decision to release a total of seven greatest hits albums was a ploy to extend his contract against his will.
In November of 2011, a Nashville court ruled that McGraw was free to record for another label while he waited for the case to be heard. McGraw signed with Big Machine Records in May of 2012, and he released a new album with them, ‘Two Lanes of Freedom’ on Feb. 5, 2013. The album reached No. 1 in the Billboard Country charts and has spawned a string of hit singles including ‘Truck Yeah,’ ‘One of Those Nights’ and ‘Highway Don’t Care.’
Last September, an appeals court upheld the the previous ruling that McGraw was free to record elsewhere. In February, the Supreme Court refused to hear another appeal from Curb. The label responded by suing McGraw for copyright infringement in April, claiming he was still under contract to them when he recorded ‘Two Lanes of Freedom’ and that those tracks were the property of the label.
Friday’s ruling means those issues have to be decided at a state level before they can be heard at a federal level. But it doesn’t necessarily mean the case has come to an end; Judge Haynes closed the case, but it can be re-opened once the relevant issues are settled at the state level.
Still, McGraw’s team sees it as a victory. Big Machine Label Group President and CEO Scott Borchetta issued the following statement Friday in response to the new ruling: “
“We’re very pleased that the District Court has dismissed Curb Records’ lawsuit against Tim McGraw and Big Machine Records. Our number one goal and intention at the Big Machine Label Group is to sign great artists with great vision and do everything in our power to create an environment for them to do their best work.
Since Tim McGraw has been a member of Big Machine Records, everyone has witnessed an incredible surge in popularity and demand for his musical releases and live performances. His sales and airplay results rival the best of his career. And we’re just getting started…”

Carrie Underwood working on a fifth studio album according to Taste of Country:
Carrie Underwood has thought about her next album, but there are still more questions than answers. The ‘Blown Away’ singer says she’ll begin work on the project after her live ‘The Sound of Music’ broadcast.
That means not until after Dec. 5, when NBC airs the theatrical production. Underwood tells Billboard that the show will be her life this fall. “I’ll be living in New York for a couple months,” she reveals. “It’s all live, so it is going to take a lot of rehearsals.”
After that, she says she’ll buckle down and begin fine-tuning ideas and concepts for her fifth studio album. The music will inspire a tour, but don’t expect an even more high-tech show than the one she toured earlier this year. “If we added anything else, it would be too much,” the star shares.
“I haven’t thought about it much because I don’t know what the next album is going to sound like, but I like just standing there and singing, too,” adds Underwood.
Underwood’s ‘Blown Away Tour: Live’ DVD will be in stores on Aug. 13. You can win a signed copy in addition to a complete home theater setup — including 60″ 3D television — by clicking the button below.

I feel like such a jerk here saying this but she's not "working" on a new album. She said she will after Sound of Music. Which is still 4+ months from happening. Again, I feel like a jerk saying this, but as a HUGE Carrie fan I don't want others to get their hopes up too. :)

He did say "according to Taste of Country". Pretty easy to find if you want to go directly to the source.
