The video about "why country music was awful" this past year seemed a bit slanted, considering many of the songs used were not your typical "bro country" songs at all and there were about ten actual bro country songs that seemed to comprise the bulk of the clips, but I don't mean to nit-pick. I see where the user who made the video is coming from and I do give the video props for being professionally made. If I didn't listen to country music and saw the video, I'd think, "Wow. Country music is pathetic."

I see where the user who made the video is coming from and I do give the video props for being professionally made. If I didn't listen to country music and saw the video, I'd think, "Wow. Country music is pathetic." Agreed. I was pretty confused by David Nail's and Scotty McCreery's inclusions, but I guess if their lyrics fit in accordance to each lyrical stereotype that the video addressed, then so be it. Nonetheless, and not that I've ever made it a secret, 2013 has been one of the weakest years for Country music that I can remember. Hell, it may be the weakest we've seen in the past 20 years, in all honesty. The lyrics to the majority of the hits this year were so incredible weak, each song could pass as being one another, the male vocalists are starting to actually sound the exact same, and the originality of records being put out by most Country artists today is completely absent. Thank goodness for (most of) the groups, the ladies (well, C-M-T [...heheh]), and a very slim and select few men (see Paisley, Urban, McGraw, + a few others); they're being drowned in comparison to the hits shown in that video, but they're still hanging in there.

Grady Smith, who made the video, is a writer/critic for Entertainment Weekly. He's also my new (fake) boyfriend, but that's neither here nor there. His intent was to show how incredibly johnny one-note hits/songwriting has become in a genre he cares deeply for. While he is super anti-bro, it was mostly to point out all the similarities in the songs, which is why David, Scotty, EYB, and George Strait were included.

Random Video Of The Day:
Artist: Jamie O'Neal Single: "Trying To Find Atlantis" Writers: Chris Walters, Zack Turner Album: Brave Label: Capitol Nashville Video Director: Randee St.Nicholas Year Released: September 27, 2004 Radio and Records Peak: #18 Billboard Peak: #18
Jamie O'Neal is an Australian country music singer/songwriter. She was actually born Jamie Murphy on June 3, 1966 in Sydney, Australia. After moving to Nashville in the 90's, she signed a recording contract with Mercury Nashville in 2000. Her first single was the huge "There Is No Arizona". The song went #1, and top 40 on the Billboard top 100 U.S Chart. Her second single also went #1 ("When I Think About Angels"). The title track "Shiver" went to #21, and "Frantic" peaked at #41. After a non-album single "Every Little Thing" failed to reach top #30, she was let go from Mercury. She hooked on with Capitol and released "Trying To Find Atlantis" from her only Capitol album Brave. The #3 peaking "Somebody's Hero" would follow, and "I Love My Life" got up to #26. She exited Capitol when "God Don't Make Mistakes" only reached #47. "Like A Woman" and "Soldier Comin Home" was released via 1720 Entertainment but later would go her seperate way again. In 2012 she started Monumentum Label Group which is the label that Rachel Lynae is signed to. Jamie has sent 11 singles to country radio (12 if you count her duet with Mark Wills "I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You"). She has 2 #1's to her credit and 3 top tens. Along with two studio albums released and two finishes albums that went unreleased. "Trying To Find Atlantis" peaked in early 2005....A Christmas song will be tomorrow. :)

I love Jamie O'Neal. "Trying To Find Atlantis" was one of the first country songs I remember absolutely loving, and "Somebody's Hero" remains a personal favourite. I wish she was still regularly releasing material.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is andythedrifter and I am a country music enthusiast. I found this webiste a few weeks ago by searching for "country music message board" and this seems to be by far the most active country music-related forum on the net. I've been lurking since then and have finally decided to take the plunge. Lots of great discussion going on here - wish I had found it sooner.
sabre14, I've been enjoying your random videos of the day - great stuff and always a fun trip down memory lane; thanks for posting. I kind of forgot about Jamie O'Neal, but she put out some really solid music back in the day and it's always a pleasure to revisit her singles. "When I Think About Angels", "There is No Arizona", "Somebody's Hero", "Trying to Find Atlantis" - all good stuff.

Double Shot Random Video Of The Day: ;) Artist: Vince Vance and the Valiants Single: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" Writers: Troy Powers, Andy Stone Album: All I Want For Christmas Is You Video Director: Steve Dunning Year Released: 1993 Billborad Peak: #31 (1999) Artist: Alan Jackson Single: "Let It Be Christmas" Writers: Alan Jackson Album: Let It Be Christmas Label: Arista Nashville Year Released: 2002 Billboard Peak: #37 I seriously doubt I'll be able to do a video on Christmas day, so I decided to do two for Christmas Eve. First one is Vince Vance and the Valiants and a song that has been a mainstay on country radio during December for 20 years. Lisa Layne is the lead singer but an actress is singing in the video, and Vince is the one with the goofy hair. Alan Jackson's "Let It Be Christmas" just might be my favorite original Christmas song in country music. The video is from a CMT Christmas special back in 2002, and his wife and daughters makes it that much cooler. Hope I could put some cheer in your spirit today. Hope you all can spend some quality time with your family and friends today and tomorrow. And be sure to eat as many cookies as you want ;)... Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the fellow pulsers out there! :)

Same two Christmas songs as last year debut in the MB top 50 today. I guess it's a Christmas miracle that the Robertsons didn't manage to infiltrate the chart this year.

I have to say this board has become a part of my life. It's one of the few parts of my online routine when I wake up in the morning. I check my email, facebook, twitter and this board. It's nice to have people to talk/discuss music with on more of a level of that song is great or I hate that song. I'm glad I discovered this board when I did even if I didn't use it as much as I do now. Thank you guys for always making me feel welcomed and for all the great conversations.
As for my gifts, I got a big gift this year instead of small ones at least at home who knows what will happen later with the rest of the family. I ended up with a new phone that was very much needed. My first smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S4.

I ended up with a new phone that was very much needed. My first smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S4. Same here on all accounts, except I got the S3. I always had flip phones before this so it's a big change, but I am enjoying it quite a bit. Aside from that, I received several CDs (which is about all I ask for most years): - Lee Ann Womack, Lee Ann Womack - Mindy McCready, Mindy McCready - Spitfire, LeAnn Rimes - See You Tonight, Scotty McCreery - Southern Way of Life, Deana Carter - I Am Jaida Dreyer, Jaida Dreyer - Golden: Deluxe, Lady Antebellum - Hunter Hayes: Encore, Hunter Hayes - Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke - The 20/20 Experience, Justin Timberlake - ARTPOP, Lady Gaga

Not an official video, but an appropriate song for today (especially since Christmas is also Steve Wariner's birthday).

I got about $60 in iTunes gift cards from my family, but my absolute favorite gift was my new Philadelphia Eagles jersey (LeSean McCoy) in preparation for our big showdown with Dallas on Sunday. Go Eagles!
