In other news, the "Roar" music video is now at over 900,000 views in just over six hours. That means that there are 57 new viewers for every second (or 3,422 per minute). The math is so off.

The video was really cute. She looks great in it. I just don't like that scene with the Tiger. It was too corny. But I love the visual effects, the cinematography, almost everything basically.

I get goosebumps at the end when they're all sitting together facing the camera. It reminds me of Star Wars at the end when they face the audience. They were all characters, not just Katy.

Haha, I was wondering how long someone would take to correct me, but I thought it would have been josh. Anyway, yeah, I realized a few minutes after I did it that I for some reason had calculated it for four hours because it was released at 4 PM, and my idiot brain had already checked out for the day.
Anyway, the point of my post was to point out that there's no way she can break the VEVO record 1D set. She'd have to average almost 145 new viewers/second over the 24 hour period, which is just not happening.

I think everyone is getting a little overexcited. I thought it was kind of crap for what it was. I know it was supposed to look cartoony, but it just looked cheap. It was corny as fuq.
I just feel like she's getting a free pass because of the tidal wave of momentum on her side. Song is still bomb.

Thanks god I'm not the only one thinking that the video is not THAT good. After all the videos from the Teenage Dream era, this one is really bad

I'm an RA in a residence hall on my campus - just showed this to my residents and about 12 of them are watching it in the lounge now. Basically they keep re-watching the tiger attack scene and laughing their asses off.
I seriously love this video. Yea, it's corny. I think it's part of her showing that while she is moving on from her "Teenage Dream" candy land life, she still likes to have fun and doesn't seem to take herself seriously.
Also, the first scene where she wears the full tarzan-woman outfit thing, she almost looks like she's laughing at herself, which is awesome. It's just a fun video, and I'm a fan.

I saw her live on the California Dreams Tour. The production value of the concert was amazing, but the thing that made me feel like I invested my money in something valuable was her sense of humor. This lady isn't afraid to laugh at herself and she doesn't take herself so seriously (which is something that I think has helped her stand on her own feet and differentiate herself from Lady Gaga or Rihanna). I don't know why is that such a surprise for people. She's always been like that. This video is as quirky as Hot N Cold, Waking Up In Vegas, California Gurls or Last Friday Night. She can play dark and serious, but she's at her best when she laughs at herself.

I was concerned about her longevity after IKAG & HNC videos and the disappointing reception to the amazing TOY, then followed up by quirky, goofy WUIV. Thought she was going to be stuck as novelty - especially when CG came out. Fortunately, that has been dispelled.

Out of all the acts that broke through in the late 00s, Katy was the one who most seemed like a novelty act initially. I think Firework was the real turning point for her.

"Firework" is the only Katy single I legitimately cannot stand. I'd say "Teenage Dream' was the turning point.

I prefer Teenage Dream as well, and it's easily my favorite song from her, but it was just another huge hit for her and kept her momentum going at the time. Firework was the real moment when her status went up. It was released at the perfect time when the teen suicides were on the news a lot and empowerment anthems kept coming in. It was the first hit from that wave and shone brighter and longer than the rest (We R Who We R, Fuckin Perfect, Born This Way) and it arguably overtook IKAG & HnC as her signature hit over the coming year.

I still not sold on the song, but i love the video (not surprise because i love almost all her videos). I like that Katy doesn't take herself so seriously, and show some humour in her videos.

I can't pick my favorite moment of the video, because it's an endless source of hilarious gif. Maybeee if I had to, I'd choose the part when she - as the Queen of the Jungle - sits at her throne and the camera shows the animals around her. That's as cool as her perfume promo, and I think after just one more big hit she'll legitimately be the current Queen of Pop saving her imaginary throne in pop music - not that she's not one already. :)

She looks great in the video esp the part where she is flexing!
Visually it kinda reminds me of Paula Abduls Promise of a new Day

Saw the PRISM artwork cover on GMA. At first I thought it was the sunshine hitting the left side and bluring the image then realized that is the way it is. Light shinning on Katy's face. Simplistic yet stunning. She said that the album is about how the light beams over the darkness in her life and that the album is about a new phase in her life and it will be deeper. Not in those exact words of course. I've always felt Katy's personality is what makes the public love her so much but I was amazed at how down to earth she is and how she interacted with the GMA crew and they loved her. When asked about her song with John Mayer she responded with a witty charm that they have a lot of collaborations going on. Lol. That update is slaying all.

The video was perhaps a bit less than I was expecting, but it's still decent. I have the feeling the streaming/sales are going to be front loaded which will prevent Katy from having a long reign on the Hot 100, but a #1 is always a good thing.

What I think would be really funny/cool would be if 'Dark Horse' does to 'Roar' what 'Roar' did to 'Blurred Lines' in its first week on sale (as in, sell almost double), but then they also put up 'Dark Horse' for streaming so that it has both sales and streaming going for it, and Katy replaces herself at #1. :kii: Wouldn't be bad for a pre-album buzz single!
