I think Sara has a great voice, but I really dislike the Country/Pop direction she's taken. Some artists can do that incredibly well; I never thought Sara was one of them. IMO, songs like Saints And Angels, I Could Not Ask For More, Always Be My Baby, is where her strength lies. With ALBS being a massive comeback hit, it puzzles me as to why she insists on gong full-on Pop, while her audience/radio seems to suggest they want more songs like ALBS and less like " Slow Me Down." All the songs you listed are all country pop as well, especially the two singles from her Born to Fly record, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. This single fits in very well on today's country radio and is not all that different from ALBS sonically either for that matter. That single was her comeback hit and that helped propel that one while this one has had a more belabored run.

#21-#23 all have negative spins and Cole is going recurrent. Sara may be top 20 as early as next week!

I think top 20 may still be a few weeks away, but I think it will definitely get there. I think it may have a slight chance to make top 10, but that may be pushing it. It's already done a lot better than a lot of people thought it would back when it seemed to be stuck in the 32-36 range for what seemed like months (may have actually been months). It certainly has picked up once it hit top 30, but the song is already about seven months old, so I'm not sure how much longer it can hold on. I predict that it will end up peaking somewhere between 14-18, though I wouldn't mind being wrong if it got higher than that.

I'm obsessed with this and her album. I'm hoping this can at least sneak into the top 10 at some point .

I'm obsessed with this and her album. I'm hoping this can at least sneak into the top 10 at some point . I think it's going to. My theory is that this song has such a different sound, and therefore it sticks out. It had big trouble getting started because radio PD's are terrified of making a mistake, but now that it's reached a pretty high level of acceptance, I think it will sail along until it hits the top 10. If it stalls at #12, don't be surprised. But it could keep going well into the top 10. It's such a terrific song to hear on the radio. It's never going to be my favorite Sara song but it's one of the few songs I actively want to hear on the radio right now.

I am new to this forum. Sara Evans is my favorite country artist, and I feel Slow Me Down is her best album to date. I really hope this title track can keep chugging into the top 10 and set up another big hit or two from the cd.
I have read over the forum rules, and it says only current singles are allowed as topics. I am not sure if it's appropriate to reference past singles within the thread, so please correct me if I am wrong in doing so.
As long as it's taking Slow Me Down to climb, I have always thought Sara's chart history is unique compared to others, and not sure if it's a matter of radio pd's, audience response, or just coincidence. She is one of the superstars of country, but her stellar career is marked by oddities for chart enthusiasts. For instance, On the Backseat of A Greyhound Bus peaked at a respectable number 16, but as the first single from her BTF followup, that must have seemed a slight disappointment. Then somehow Perfect became a huge smash and paved the way for Suds, one of the biggest songs of that year.
I hope Slow Me Down is the little engine that could.

First, welcome to Pulse Music Board, 7shane6. Second, indulgecountry now has some competition in the Sara Evans department. Yes, you can certainly refer to past singles when posting in the current single thread.

"Slow Me Down" debuted on the Hot 100 this week at #89! It's been a long time coming, but I've got my fingers crossed that this song blows up big soon.

I'm obviously horribly late to this party, but I randomly heard this earlier today, so I tracked it down to get a better listen to it. Holy *bleep* this is good. :O Admittedly, the different-for-Country production is only helpful for an outsider like me, but even then it still has to be totally on point for me to get into it, and for this song it absolutely is. I especially like the power she gives this song when her voice combines with the melody just so.

Thank you for the welcome. Excited to see Slow Me Down move up another spot to number 22.
A couple of observations. First, I cannot believe how long it takes songs to climb up the country charts. This is something I have known for years as a casual chart watcher, but I am just venting.
I have been reading the comments about country radio not playing women, and my question is: is this a result of some weird rule of radio program directors and djs? I find it hard to imagine any listeners out there revolting if they heard two women in a row, and it seems like one of those cases where a made up notion of what people want to hear is hoisted upon the public. Just my two cents.

good point shane & why does sara's songs take so long to climb up there...she's been around forever. I just have a hard understanding why artists like taylor swift, carrie underwood, miranda lambert get more airplay then Sara - or even reba or martina. I just don't understand.

I hadn't realized Sara has racked up 30 weeks on the Billboard chart already, but regardless this is on a roll right now. It doesn't appear to be showing signs of peaking anytime soon. I'd say this should definitely go top 15 and probably even top 10. Kudos to Sara Evans! I was concerned her radio relevance days were just about over up until about two months ago when this hit the top 30 and I realized it was a big hit in the making. This sounds really pleasant on the radio and I heard the album cut on iTunes radio the other day and really enjoyed the little bit of extra music at the beginning that is taken out of the radio edit.

Billboard shows it stuck at 22, but I can't tell from their overhauled site whether or not it's still bulleted. Just do not understand why radio would not want another woman in the top 20, it's getting a little stagnant with the same old guys clogging the chart. Oh well, here's hoping for another upward swing next week.

I think from the update this week, it could have been last week, it gained over 3 million in audience even though it stayed at #22. So that's a nice jump.

The free portion of the Billboard website has the top half of the chart available. The complete airplay chart is included in the Billboard Country Update issued every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday that week). The link to the latest issue is usually posted in this thread.

Billboard shows it stuck at 22, but I can't tell from their overhauled site whether or not it's still bulleted. You can tell by looking at the circle for the current week's position. If it's shaded in black, the song has a bullet. If it's white, no bullet. (Apologies for the double post; I don't know how to include two quotes in the same post. Moderators, feel free to combine my posts.)

Thanks for the info on how to look for a bullet on Billboard!
Did anyone here follow the charts when Sara's "Perfect" was a single? I feel like that one took forever to get into the Top 20, but then became one of her biggest hits, so I am holding out hope!

And yes i have been following sara (almost obsessively) since her beginning on the charts. Sara is a slow mover in the charts, I have noticed that usually her songs start really burning up the charts when she's in the #20-#15 slots. For me when she finally reaches the top 20 - its on. Thats usually when CMT & GAC top 20 jump on board with her too. I am anxiously hoping & waiting that 'Slow Me Down' doesn't slow down.

Thanks for posting this! Brings back memories ... I was so proud of this song, which totally eclipsed the leadoff single from Restless. Forgot what a bleak time this was for women on country chart.
I feel strongly that I first saw the video for Perfect in early 2003 (Spring?). Is this possible? Was it on the charts for a year?!
