New Sara Evans single is coming! "Evans will soon release new single Slow Me Down from her seventh album that features four songs she penned with long time collaborators Marcus Hummon, Leslie Satcher, Hilary Lindsey and new collaborator Shane Stevens. "Slow Me Down is really phenomenal. I didn't write it. Marv Green did. I've probably listened to it a hundred times - every single time it gives me chills. We have been performing it in concert. I'm almost finished with the new album out late fall or early winter in the U.S. I'm very excited about this album. I was super lucky to find some great songs. I've also written some of the songs. Slow Me Down is one of the songs that no-one denies. There's not one person who hasn't flipped out over it. It's a song about a girl trying to get her man's attention. She's sort of threatening to leave. I don't want to give the hook away. The first time you hear it the hook line really gets you. It's not a ballad, more a tempo song." - sourceFan Club Party 2013 performance:

YES YES YES!
First off, I would be excited for any new Sara Evans song, as most of you know.
But this is a stellar song, and she kills the performance of it. I CANNOT wait for the radio cut of this.
If she gets the promotion that ALBS got, this will be a hit. If she gets the promotion that Anywhere got, I don't know but I refuse to think about that.
Yay for Sara!

Great, great song. This really should be a hit. She needs to reach at the very least top ten with this. I really don't have many words, because it's too good.

^And in a perfect world, that would be the start of her first 3-or-more-song top 10 streak, because the entire album will be phenomenal and all of the singles will be perfect and there will not be one random single that drops the ball like there has been on all of her other albums!! I can dream, right? :)
This song sounds amazing though, so I agree that it definitely needs to hit top 10. I really hope it can hit #1, so she can continue her streak of getting at least one number one on every album since she broke through. This song is catchy, and has an awesome hook. The random range jump at the end of the chorus gets me every time! It is a song that shows off a new level of vocal prowess that Sara has not given us before, and the fact that all we have is a live video to go off of makes that even more impressive. I am excited for this! I agree that it will be a big hit if it receives the promotion that "A Little Bit Stronger" did.
A lot of people have complained about her 'hit-or-miss' track record with singles in the past, but to me this sounds like a direct HIT!

I would be really disappointed if this will not be atleast Top 10. I think the song is great. I can't wait to hear the studio version for this one.

She's sounding really good!
(Is it just me, or does the intro sound a bit like Hunter's "What You Gonna Do"?)

It was so obvious she was reading it from something. Looking forward to hearing this song. While I don't agree with a lot of the things Sara says, I love her music.

Here is the link to the site where we can unlock the song! It says it is 40% of the way right now. The more people who show interest in the song by connecting through Facebook, Twitter, email, etc., the faster the full version will be unlocked! slowmedown.saraevans.com/P.S. I imagine by later tonight, this link will also lead to the full version of the song once it has been unlocked.

The chorus clip is nice, but I am dying to hear the full audio. Nice to see that they are giving this single a hyped roll-out so far, and I must say that the artwork for the single cover is STUNNING.

You can play/hear the song now, too.
Love the song. I sure hope she can "come back" and have some more success. The fact that she has one great track here should help.

Love it! The production is a little different at times, but hopefully this song gives us a little insight to what the rest of the album is like!

I'll need a few more listens for this to grow on me some more, but my first thought is that this already sounds pretty good and I'm sure I'll like it more given future listens. My second thought is that this sounds like something today's country radio will play. Couple that with the fact that it's the first single from a new project, and she should have some momentum.
At this point in her career, Sara strikes me as more of a 'mid-level' artist...someone like Josh Turner or Gary Allan or Rodney Atkins or Joe Nichols or Craig Morgan. These artists have all had a decent number of big hits throughout their careers, but nowadays they all seem more hit or miss when it comes to really big radio hits. Although, I guess, none of these artists ever seemed to exceed the ranking of 'mid-level'.
I'd like to see Sara get a good ways up the chart again. Another #1 would be fantastic, but for now I'll just hope for top 20, that way if she does go higher it'll be like icing on the cake. I do think this has potential...it's not my favorite song by any means but I think it's pretty good and I do think it'll probably grow on me even more yet. And again, it sounds like something radio would play, and she's at the start of a new 'era', so she's already got a couple of things going for her and all before this has even hit radio, too.
And I think perhaps the most important thing is that it doesn't sound like a re-hash of "A Little Bit Stronger". I wasn't exactly expecting her to try to re-make that song, but I'm sure it's a temptation for artists to try to re-create a recent mega-hit.

I think this is a decent song, though it'll take a few listens for me to get into because I feel like the production gets really busy at times. As for chart success, I'm worried I'll end up bitterly disappointed by having high expectations for Sara, so I'm going to low-ball and hope for top 30 and consider anything more a bonus.
I must say though, the first note downright frightened me when I first clicked play, lol.

I'm quite excited the full song is finally available! And WOW, it is so different from what I expected! With the live videos I have seen floating around, I expected something fairly traditional sounding. Certainly not "Coalmine" or "Suds in the Bucket"-status traditional, but maybe more modern-traditional along the lines of "Born To Fly" or "A Real Fine Place to Start". That is definitely not the case though, and you know what? I LOVE it!!! Sara sounds absolutely amazing, as usual, but she has tweaked her sound just enough to raise some serious attention without sacrificing her image as a country music artist. This sounds fresh and exciting, but does not come across as an attempt to pander to radio. At least to me, her excitement surrounding this single is tangible, and it comes across both in her vocal delivery and in the hype that has been built around this before it is even sent to radio.
To me it is a song that could attract new fans to Sara. This song absolutely stands out from her catalog production-wise, and I feel like it could turn some heads from people who may not have even batted an eye at the average new Sara release. This is a very good thing, because being a 42-year old female B-lister, she definitely has the odds stacked against her. I legitimately foresee this single going places.
Now, I could also see it completely missing the boat with an audience who prefers more traditional country music. While it does not chase shamelessly after the radio trends, it is still by no means a traditional song. If this is any indication of the direction this album is going to go, I am so pumped to see what new, fresh material Sara has in store for us! But it is certainly not going to garner much praise from the people who feel like her first couple albums were her best sound.

Wow, Sara looks absolutely stunning on the single cover! I've already listened to this song quite a few times, and I have to say this is a really good song. I hope radio gets behind it, I can see this being a big hit for her. I'm sure like most of her other songs it will be a slow climber, but I'd love to see it go top ten, hopefully even go all the way to the top.

Will have to let this sink in with more listens and have time to grow on me, but my initial thoughts are that this is a very solid bid for country radio airplay. The lyrics have a nice substance to them, the production is modern and unique, and Sara's vocal is totally on-point. I'm definitely hoping for her sixth No. 1 with this, but I think even if it doesn't go all the way, it should certainly make the Top 10, at least.

This is really, really good. I actually like it more than anything else on her last album, bar 'A Little Bit Stronger' and 'Anywhere' (I'm still bitter that that song did so poorly). As indulge said, everything is pretty on-point: the vocals, production, lyrics...it all works. Hopefully this ends up becoming a hit for her.

I do not think it has been mentioned here yet, but this song will be available on iTunes on September 3rd, according to the email sent to those on Sara's newsletter list when this song was unlocked.

She sounds better on this than anything off the last album (which I still liked). Less nasal-y than normal.

She sounds better on this than anything off the last album (which I still liked). Less nasal-y than normal. I'll agree with that, she does sound great here. That's where the compliments stop from me though. Who the heck produced this trainwreck, Dann Huff? If this is the kind of music Sara has to make to stay on the charts, then I guess I'll just have to down a shot and listen to Suds In the Bucket and Born To Fly on repeat. The verses don't even pretend to be country, and the chorus is just a wall of sound led by loud guitars. I hate to say this, because Sara's always been one of my favorites, but from a production stand point this sounds like something Taylor Swift would put out. - I had to edit to say that I just listened to the live acoustic version at the top of the thread and really liked it. I can't believe it's even the same song. Underneath all of the bombast lies a pretty damn good song, too bad I'll never be able to hear it on the studio version.

^ Huff's production has actually been getting better of lately IMO. "Don't Rush" was about as un-Huff as you could get, and Hunter Hayes is largely devoid of excess production-wise.
I like unique production, and the echoed pizzicato strings really stand out on this song. I think the melody is a little flat at times, but it otherwise has more energy and focus than most of her other stuff. (That was my problem with "A Little Bit Stronger" — great lyrics, not so great melody or production.) I've said before that I think Sara's musical identity has been incredibly schizophrenic, but this feels like something from "Restless", which IMO was her most cohesive album.

Official Adds Date: September 23A certain "A Little Bit Stronger" went for adds on September 27 back in 2010. I'm sure this means an album in January/February, depending on how quickly SMD moves up the charts.
