This thread has been quiet for quite some time! Have any of you been hearing this on their radios yet? I haven't, but I purchased the single so I have been listening to it that way rather than waiting for it to come on amongst all the party songs on the radio. I am also quite excited for the music video to come out! Sara's videos are usually quite good in my opinion; especially when the song has a storyline, like this one!

I have yet to hear this song anywhere. It surprised me that her song is lingering outside the top forty. Yet my station has no problem playing Kellie's new song three times a day. They have a strange logic where they won't touch this song or barely touch Jennifer's song but they'll play the crap out of Kellie's new one (which I love). I'll just say they didn't play her last single more then twice a week after the buzz of DWTS passed. Sara on the other hand they have played all her single up to this one pretty quickly even the ones that do that well.

I haven't heard it on the radio yet (but then again, I don't really listen to radio anymore). This moves 44-40* on tonight's Billboard chart, cracking the top 40 in its 8th week. I don't think that's actually too bad, considering there hasn't been much promotion for it yet.

I may be getting really hopeful here but I think Sara's got herself another #1 in the making with this song, it's not off to a very quick start compared to the A-Listers but she's definatley doing good. All I know for sure is she has the best chance of any female who currently has a single out to go #1 and end the drought of females hitting the top spot (Billboard, Mediabase has had some this year.) The Last #1 by a solo female was still "Blown Away", which was exactly 52 weeks ago (a.k.a. a whole year!). Hopefully this drought won't last as long as the last long one. (107 charts between Martina McBride's "Blessed" until Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman")
Weather I'm getting my hopes too high up or not I think this will be a great hit for Sara and I can't wait to see how it plays out from here.

I'm really disappointed that I have yet to hear this on any of my 3 local country stations. They have stopped playing her singles all-together in favor of these newcomers who are all pop and no country. I'm not giving up hope on this little song! This song needs to be promoted so much more.

I love it! She just looks downright amazing throughout, but those scenes of her in the wedding dress take the video up a notch. Really well done camerawork and visuals. Great music video, imo. Hope it does well to propel the song along like the video for "A Little Bit Stronger" did.

Okay. I love the song, and I love Sara, but I don't love the music video. She looks great, but there were times when the video started looking like projects I once made during high school. Nonetheless, I hope many disagree and I hope the video helps, because Sara deserves much success with this song.

I'm not crazy about the video in total, mostly as the male lead isn't that interesting or engaging on screen. But Sara looks great, and it's a good (although depressing lol) take on the song.
I'm glad to see this doing well, I hear it pretty regularly on my local (top 10 market) station.
ETA: I see that the guy is a NASCAR driver. Maybe that explains why the male lead acting isn't causing me goosebumps :))

The video is...eh. My question is, why does Carl Edwards look so old in it? He is only 34. Lord.

Haven't heard this on the radio, but listened here finally. This is pretty pop sounding to my ear-but I really like it.
The video, however- boring and doesn't make me like the song more like it should. Agree with the lead guy being meh.
Hope the song goes somewhere; she has a better voice IMO, than so many.

Just for indulgecountry. Sara Evans talked to one of my deejays from WYRK:
Sara Evans has a popular single in ‘Slow Me Down,’ but that doesn’t mean she’s slowing down — not one bit. The singer is working to rebrand with a new and fresh sound, while still keeping true to what fans are used to hearing from her.
Evans’ newest single has seen great success — it had the biggest debut week for any single in her career. “There is something that’s grabbing people about it,” she tells Taste of Country/Clay Moden of WYRK.
A breakup song will certainly do that, but Evans also attributes her strong following to a focused rebranding.
“My goal every time I go in the studio to make a new record is to challenge myself a little bit more, to try to have the newest and freshest sound, but still the Sara Evans sound,” relays the songstress. “By that I mean my music has always had the same vocal sound … I love a ton of guitar and there’s just this … sound.”
It’s a sound that can only be known as the ‘Sara Evans sound,’ and it’s heartening to know that the singer won’t stray from it completely. Hopefully, the 42-year-old’s sound will continue to get ‘a little bit stronger’ with her innovative and fresh ideas, but will forever be characterized by her signature powerhouse vocals.

With my current distaste of country music, I eagerly await Sara's new music that will still be HER sound.

This seems to have really slowed down for Sara the last two weeks. I've heard next to none promotion wise for "Slow Me Down", and I don't know why exactly? This is my favorite song of hers since "As If" which I believe I am in the minority of liking. I don't want to worry right now, but I'm restless for its chances, cause Sara needs to get back on the charts and stay here, unlike the past few years.

^I absolutely LOVE "As If"! If that is a minority opinion, then count me in as well :) It gets stuck in my head all the time, but it is one of those songs where I am completely fine with that happening because I just never get tired of it. I can understand people having potential beefs with the production, but it works for me.
About this song potentially slowing down, I'm not terribly surprised. Radio is just doing what the song asks them to do! Haha but all kidding aside, she is somewhere close to the top 40 on the airplay chart, right? To me it makes sense that she would start slowing down a little at this point. She is 42, and female, and coming back with material that is almost shockingly poppy to a casual listener, and releasing said material into a market that has largely moved on since the majority of her accomplishments in the mid-2000s. Plus the holidays are coming up. Given how many songs are fighting for success at any given point, we have probably reached the point where hers is either going to get lost in the shuffle or start increasing steadily. If I got my way, she would start flying up the chart any time now!
I think she can do it! In my opinion, if she were going to get lost in the shuffle, she would have fallen hard long ago (look at "Anywhere"). If promotion has been slowing down lately, could it be possible that the label is preparing to make an album announcement? She has mentioned before the possibility of a February release, which means a formal announcement should definitely be imminent. That could be an excellent pathway through which to resume building hype; lay low for a couple weeks, then announce the album, and promote a little bit harder each week leading up to its release!

I liked "As If" too. It had more energy to it than her usual work, even if it was kinda brickwalled production-wise.

Surprised and disappointed that this is slowing down so much after a promising start. Really hope that it picks up and her team can get her some nice promo for this and come this Spring this can be making a run for the Top 20. Would really love to see her be able to perform this on the 2014 ACMs next April.

Sara performed in St. Louis last night. She looked amazing and vocals were excellent. Slow me down sounded so good (she also performed another new one from the album, I believe it was called Put My Heart Down)...she said the album will be out March 04!

Man, I wish I could've been there (I'm in St. Louis, too). March sounds like a good time to shoot for the album release (again). I keep seeing that she's performing or talking about "Put My Heart Down" a lot, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if that turns out to be the second single. Should be a good choice, because it's been some time now that she's had a more uptempo single do well at radio ("Anywhere" should have, but it had a botched release).

Currently at #39 (up from #42) with a +113 move, looks like this song got its bullet back on the Mediabase charts!

"Slow Me Down" is 69 cents on iTunes, so I bought it. Hopefully the discount leads to an uptick in sales, and radio will take notice. This doesn't seem to be gaining too much lately, but it keeps getting adds and the label seems pretty committed to it, so I'd love to see it start to blow up sooner rather than later.

I know in these days of label manipulations and changing trends, the charts can be quite difficult to predict. But Sara's chart runs in particular have always been some of the weirdest! She ranges everywhere from being red-hot and completely flubbing out (a la "Tonight", "Coalmine", etc.) or being pretty much momentum-less and scoring a home-run ("A Little Bit Stronger", "No Place That Far", etc). That being said, I think it is very difficult for anyone to be completely sure what is going to happen this time. All I can cling to is my hope. Her songs have always had fairly long chart runs, so it is not terribly surprising that this is taking awhile. It is a very modern-sounding, radio-friendly song, so I do not think she is completely out of luck yet. Besides, she is definitely not red-hot right now, so statistically she should be just about ready for another smash!

So does anyone know exactly how labels promote their songs to get played on radio?

This song keeps winning the Taste of Country Showdown. It easily bested the new singles from Billy Currington and Brett Eldredge, and now she seems all but certain to win again. It seems like a pretty popular song with the fans so far. Radio just needs to pick up the pace! tasteofcountry.com/sara-evans-jamie-lynn-spears-the-showdown/
