Thanks for posting this! Brings back memories ... I was so proud of this song, which totally eclipsed the leadoff single from Restless. Forgot what a bleak time this was for women on country chart. I feel strongly that I first saw the video for Perfect in early 2003 (Spring?). Is this possible? Was it on the charts for a year?! Perfect took 29 weeks to hit #2, so it debuted in September, 2003.

Mediabase Top 30Congratulations Sara!! According to mediabase "Slow Me Down" moved from #23 to #20 - Making this her first top 20 song since 2010 when "A Little Bit Stronger" hit #1. The last time Sara was this close to the top 20 was in 2011 when "My Heart Can't Tell You No" reached #21 just barely missing the top 20. This week her spins are 2875, last week 2539. Move indicates 336, Arb.Aud/Mill shows 23.521!! She's got some stiff competition in the coming weeks - Tim McGraw "Lookin' For That Girl", Craig Morgan "Wake Up Loving You", & Luke Bryan "Play It Again". She also seems to be holding off the songs behind her pretty good too. I have a really good feeling "Slow Me Down" is going to keep the momentum going!!!! Go Sara!!!! Also want to add that this is Sara's 14th top 20 song!

She's also top 20 on Billboard this week, as she moves 22-19*.

OK, somebody explain this to me. (jhomes to the rescue again? :) )
I know that both spins and audience factor in to the Country chart, but on today's Mediabase, this happens:
20 +1 TYLER FARR Whiskey In My Water 2962 +45 384 +32 23.085 +0.436 21 -1 SARA EVANS Slow Me Down 3006 +45 240 -5 24.181 +0.012
I see this, and I wonder how it's possible that Tyler passes her with both lower spins and audience. Judging from these numbers, I can only figure that it has to be something with the audience gain/Tyler having a bigger weekly gain than her.

Libra - The Mediabase Country chart is based on points rather than spins or audience. The points formula is unknown but based on the different weights each station/market is given. Spins, audience, and time of day also play a part. So in this case it's likely a combination of Tyler having a higher audience increase, likely at higher-weighted stations at higher-weighted times. It's fairly common. And also convoluted and annoying, yes. Hope that helps. :)

First, welcome to Pulse Music Board, taylorjames1992. Second, Sara Evans is at #19 on the airplay chart (the chart we like around here), #24 on the hot country songs chart, and #20 at MediaBase. Hope that helps!

The weekly trends are much more telling in how a song is performing.

Quiet thread these past two weeks. Sara was gaining steadily, but now seems to have slipped in airplay? I wouldn't say that she's really slipped in airplay...last week was a pretty flat week, but she's been gaining small amounts this week. Definitely a slower pace once again, though, and that's basically because (like I outlined in the Dan + Shay thread) the top 14 songs right now are all putting up huge audience numbers and none of them seem to want to give up short of going #1. Then in the next little 'tier' on the chart, you've got relative newbies Craig Campbell and Tyler Farr, Craig being the beneficiary of Clear Channel's On The Verge program (the airplay from which vaulted him into the top 20 quite quickly for a new artist). Then there's the other Craig, Mr. Morgan, whose song is now the oldest on the chart. I thought it might go recurrent last week but he rebounded a bit and kept his bullet, and this week he's back to posting some gains. Still, I can't imagine "Wake Up Lovin' You" making the top 10. I think Black River will take the top 15 and then I think we might see Craig start to fall next week. Sara did re-pass Tyler Farr in today's MB update, but both of them got jumped by The Band Perry. "Slow Me Down" looks quite likely to crack the top 15 soon but much like Craig Morgan, Sara will probably have a hard time cracking the top 10.

What does this have to do with Sara???? I will admit I didn't read the whole thing, but from the skimming I did, I didn't see any relation to Sara.

Um, it was entirely about when she's likely to move into the top 15 after a couple rather quiet weeks on the chart... The Highway has started playing this... and I'm loving it more and more. Forgive me for taking so long. ;)

carriekins, I posted an article relating to Craig Morgan on this post that had nothing to do with Sara, so that is why you see a post above that says what does this have to do with Sara?? Well I moved that article to the Craig Morgan- "Wake Up Lovin' You" post and got rid of it on this page.

OK, thank you, I feel better now about her chances at still making Top 15. If she does not make Top 10, does anyone want to wager a guess as to whether a second single might do well, or will this project be dead? Could she have a "Perfect"-type scenario where the second single outperforms the lead, or do you think radio's continued refusal to play solo females (other than the big three plus Reba) is going to ruin any chance for the radio-ready songs on this album? Just something to ponder during a slow week ...

I'm gonna be optimistic and think that a second single will do better than this one has. The album is much more radio-accessible than her last and there's really a lot of options. "My Heart Can't Tell You No" did pretty well considering it was a pretty 'dark' song, especially following a ballad, so I think a more uptempo pop country tune should do much better than that one did.

"Anywhere" was an uptempo country pop song and that bombed after releasing "My Heart Can't Tell You No". "Anywhere" was released nearly five months after MHCTYN peaked and it was not promoted. They probably shouldn't have even bothered to release it since they pushed it back so many times. It is not the same situation at all.

Carriekins--That was a superb explanation regarding the ins & outs of the Mediabase chart--nicely done, and I hope that fellow Casey Kasem devotee Libra got a better picture on regarding howthat admittedly convoluted points system works.
Mediabase initiated this switch in June of 1999, transitioning from a ranking-songs-by spins chart to a rankings-songs-by-points chart, with 'Write This Down' beginning a 5-week rampage on top @ R&R/Mediabase following an identical 5-week stay at #1 for 'Please Remember Me'.
Unfortunately, neither of those tunes spent enough weeks in the penthouse to prevent Lonestar's schlockfest 'Amazed' from not only winding up #1 for the year after replacing King George's instant classic for an 8-week run at #1, but going on to finish as the #1 single of the entire decade as Bob Kingsley pointed out on his 'Top 50 Singles of the 90s' countdown, which to this date remains the most horrifying sentence ever to come out of his mouth IMHO.
With 33 weeks so far on the BB chart, I don't know how much longer Sara's label will continue to promote this wonderful tune, which as is the case with so many standout tunes by ladies recently, and especially someone as admired and appreciated as Ms. Evans and her pristine voice, have had a really tough and excruciating time crawling up the charts while tons of mediocre-or-worse tunes by the guys have no problem screaming up the charts.
Including spins from last year, it has reached the top 30 for the year since the 2014 Mediabase chart year began last November 17th, although it dishearteningly won't finish nearly that high on the year-end charts, so here's hoping that whenever the next single from this wonderful CD gets released, it will do much better on the charts, although as is the case with many of my fellow posters, I'm not holding my breath that that will be the case.

They probably shouldn't have even bothered to release it since they pushed it back so many times. It is not the same situation at all. If "Anywhere" were the second single, Sara would have had another top 10, but the way the situation was handled, "Anywhere" was absolutely doomed from the get-go despite it being a great radio-friendly tune.

I heard this come on the radio today and I just have to say regrettably I just haven't been able to get on board with it. I think it's a great vocal from Sara as she always delivers, but for the casual Sara Evans fan here this just has never caught my ear. I really wanted to see this go top ten as I think we need more country female acts getting recognized, but from the get go I never thought this song was a sure fire debut.

I honestly thought "Anywhere" following ALBS would've had a shot at maybe even giving her back-to-back chart-toppers for the first time in her career, but Top 10 at the very least seemed like a given.

Agree. I have no idea why 'My Heart Cant Tell You No' was chosen. I like that song but it was obviously not going to do much, and 'Anywhere' and 'Alone' would have done better. I read 'Cant Stop Loving You' is the next single from this album, good song but they have a lot of good choices so even if that changes I feel they have a chance of another hit from this solid album.

From what I can tell, Sara Evans wanted to release MHCTYN so they let her. Even though it just missed out on the Top 20 in airplay, the music video has a really high number of views. It seemed like it deserved more than it got from radio, but there's no question after ALBS she should've switched it up and gone with an uptempo track like Anywhere for summer.

I thought for sure when Sara's Stronger album came out that "Anywhere" would be the follow up to "A Little Bit Stronger" (especially in the better weather months of 2011). But "My Heart Can't Tell You No" was, and after a while I was OK with it because her performance of the song was fantastic. Then I thought "Anywhere" will finally get it's due. But a few weeks went by and then they decided that it would be released. Unfortunately they waited til July! to send it to radio.
If Sara wanted it MHCTYN to be released, then that's fine, but "Anywhere" would have certainly given her back to back top 10 singles and perhaps "My Heart Can't Tell You No" could have seemingly gone top 30 at least anyway being single #3. My God, they didn't even promote "Anywhere". Just a total loss of a song that should have been a guaranteed hit single.
