Before Gaga swooped in to steal some thunder, there was a good amount of internet chatter about the striking similarities between Sara Bareilles' "Brave" and Katy Perry's new single, "Roar."
This is not a poll about whether or not they're alike, because they are. But which song do you prefer?

"Roar". "Brave" is Sara's worst single.

Brave, easily. It's one of this year's bests IMO.
I love ROAR too.

I am completely biased but "Brave" is everything I love about Sara and more. She went for a slightly more rhythmic anthem uptempo in contrast to her previous work and didn't sacrifice the importance of her lyrics. It's one of my favorites of the year.

I hadn't given "Brave" a proper listen until "Roar" leaked and all this comparison hoopla started. now I've listened to both quite a few times, and I definitely enjoy both...but I gotta go with "Brave".
(the adorable video might give it a slightly unfair advantage, though...) ;)

Brave.
I like Roar too, but to me Brave is the better song and Sara is by far the more talented of the two.

Roar by far. Do not even want to acknowledge the existence of that other wannabe despite listening to it twice after all that chatter began.

Roar. No disrespect to the message, but the video for Brave is almost like a self-parody of typical Hot AC videos that tend to dominate the VH1 top 20 countdown. That whole concept of showing a montage of everyday people in a music video has been done to death in the Hot AC genre. And then the part where they join together and dance horribly in the park, SO cheesy and predictable. Also, Roar is catchier.

Brave. I will always take Sara over Katy. But I do like "Roar" a lot and bought it.

Roar by far. Do not even want to acknowledge the existence of that other wannabe despite listening to it twice after all that chatter began. Katy is a more of a wannabe of sara because sara has been around longer and her song came out first

Is "Brave" really winning? I thought everyone was disappointed by it.
"Roar" is like "Brave v. 2.0."

Okay.
Neither song quite measures up to either one's best. Sara's doesn't quite have the immediate 'oomph' that her previous two leads did. And Katy's, quite honestly, sounds like something whose success will easily be coasting on previous momentum rather than coming from its own merits.
Having said that, there's a bit of an uplift that's in Sara's song that's not in Katy's. Even despite Katy singing "you're gonna hear me roar", it's just not quite felt in her voice as it is in Sara's in her song.
So, Sara wins.
And for the record: The whole flap over their similarities is just one big fat mess that shouldn't be. There's more to the fiasco than there is to the two songs' similarities. But I'm sure you all knew that already. :kii:

'Roar' has grown on me a lot in the last week, but I still like 'Brave' a tiny bit more.

"Roar" B- (Had no longevity whatsoever) "Brave" C (Catchy, but just never clung to me as much as "Roar" originally did).
