I hope it's more of a "Be yourself" kind of thing more than anything else.
There certainly hasn't been enough of those types of songs...
Fair. But if I have to hear Britney sing let your gay pride flag fly then that's just going to be disappointing. I hope it's just a massive club banger, like We R Who We R if they are going this route. I kind of liked the idea of it being a hybrid of Circus/Scream & Shout though.
He was just a whirlwind of pain, desperate to love you.
Maybe it'll be more sinister than that. Like a "I can sniff you queens out with the drop of a single so come out come out wherever you are before I rip open those closet doors and steal your mom's heels right out from under your manicured feet" type of anthem.
Imagine her throwing shade at closeted males who are into other males the world over for not being who they are, reading the homophobes to filth and denouncing her republican ways in favor of the gay agenda. Absolutely WRENCHING these poor boys from their Express filled closets.

Call the single 'Mother Russia'.
I just hope it's not a throwback to "Boys" because that song sucks.

Really? Yikes. I always disliked that one and "Outrageous" because the only interesting melodies they had in them were the MJ-sounding bridges. "Womanizer," too...nothing melodic enough until the bridge.

I actually think it has one of the most interesting melodies to it. That and the way it builds; easily one of the strongest productions in her catalogue.
It's a shame that the other material recorded with The Outsyders was never released.

I wound up caving after hearing it on the radio a thousand times, but mostly because her enunciation ("womanizah") was contagious. The background vocalists also kind of sucked...I like her vocal up front. I had the same beef with "Radar." It'll be nice to have an album without Max Martin pitched up on backing vocals for sure.

Womanizer was such a surprise for me, because it never sounded like a #1 hit to me until it was. It was the true sleeper hit that resurrected her comeback in the same way that Toxic brought her back to the radio charts four years prior. Circus has more immediacy and it's bravado alone steals the show, it's the safer bet for the two by far. There is a place for both. It makes me sad that Britney already retired Circus from her tours. It makes it seem like she was just never here for Circus, the song or the album.

Circus has got to be back for Vegas. #AllEyesOnMe right?
to throw my two cents in, Circus >>>>> Womanizer, but both are flawless. I just have a soft spot for Circus as I think it sort of defines her comeback and asserts such a force, after such a period of darkness/turmoil.
I don’t start shit, but I can tell you how it ends.
'Circus' is cute but you can't tell me it's half as catchy/moving/powerful as that delivery on 'Womanizer'. That s**t is GOSPEL.
Don't even get me started on the video. I am 'Sauna' Britney always.
The Circus video OWNS the Womanizer video. The edgy, dark tone with the choreography and those shots with the sparks flying is perfection. I would love for this first single to capture the mood that the Circus video did. It's all very Gimme More, but commercial. Womanizer just isn't on that level for me.

If forced to chose I think Circus is better than Womanizer. But like I said there is room for both. I pretty much treat them like a pair anyways because their success kind of depended on each other. They are the only consecutive #1's that Britney ever got on the Top 40 radio charts and on the Digital Songs chart. In that way they are paired siblings, like Sean & Jayden. Both videos are amazing, they are probably in the top 10 for Britney's best music videos.
"Womanizer" is probably her best single post-breakdown. There's an energy and drive to her delivery that sets it a league above anything else she's done since.
It was vital in that it brought her back up to date with the current charts, contemporary sound, but was also a huge pop comeback record. "Circus", which I also love, had more of a throwback, classic Britney, sound that was familiar yet triumphant.

It's a tossup between that and '3' for me, but lately I'd give the edge to 'Womanizer'. If she could recreate the magic of those for this single I'd be satisfied, but I'm hoping for (and banking on) something a little more inspired.
Hold It Against Me is it. It's like the raver scene brought to the mainstream.
So was '3' in its time. The "rave scene" is actually better applied to that than it is 'Hold It Against Me'. Just because people weren't getting high to "brostep" in '09 doesn't mean there weren't ~rave influences~.

Hold It Against Me is basically happy hardcore brought to the mainstream, and I'm not the only one who thinks that. 3 is so basic compared to it. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.
I about lost my s**t when I first saw the Womanizer vid. It was literally like stepping in a time machine and going back to when she was in her absolute prime. After being so used to her as a nervous wreck at that point it was simply a shocking and monumental success. I think Circus is technically the superior vid (and I do like Circus as a song more too), but it will never be as memorable as Womanizer. One's the more memorable of the two, the other is the superior of the two. Both win.
