Every song I have heard is such a jam... And the buzz these guys have right now is incredible for a new act and 100% that I have heard is positive. They are the surest things to a breakthrough artist as I have ever seen. Calling it now....2014 CMA New artist of the year winners right here I completely agree with this prediction because the promotion already surrounding Dan + Shay is insane. They don't even have an album out yet. They have one single released to radio. Yet, these were their appearances this past week alone: Performed at Twitter Headquarters and Facebook Headquarters. A private show for YouTube. Music sessions with Yahoo Music, SiriusXM, Beats Music, Rhapsody, and Shazam. Fundraiser show for St. Jude. LA Benefit for Pencils of Promise organization. That isn't even all the places Dan + Shay have performed over the past few days. They're going to be on Good Morning America and The Ellen Show. Last night they performed at SXSW onstage with Justin Bieber and a few other fellow Scooter Braun artists. They're getting some major exposure right now, a lot more than most new artists. It's clear that Warner Music Nashville and Scooter Braun have big plans for this duo.

They are truly one of the rare "overnight sensations" considering it was a mere months from forming as a duo to label deal to single to album release

I really don't understand why so many people think this is so poppy sounding. Yes, it obviously does some, but 90% of today's country does. I personally think there are several songs on country radio right now that are way more pop sounding than this one. For me it's the vocals. I hear nothing country in their voices at all (but that's not to say that I dislike their voices or this song). My question is: What IS country about this? I hear a plucking banjo, but that's about it. It's a nice song with nice lyrics and I enjoy it a good deal, so I'd much rather hear this than all the bro-country junk out there. But it still bothers me that a really poppy vocal can get so popular at country radio but a traditionalist like Greg Bates can't. These guys are talented, that's for sure. And of course it's about the money...they've struck a chord with fans. The pop/rock stuff is very popular right now and country radio has just become allergic to country music. But when it comes to current songs, this one is definitely at the far end of the pop spectrum. I really don't see it as a country song at all--adding a banjo in there certainly doesn't turn a pop song into a country song.

They do have a pop sound, but I think people get too wrapped up in country being a certain thing. They may not have twang or traditional country instruments or melodies, but they very much tell stories in their songs and the vibe of the lyrical content, for me at least, keeps them right in the country crowd regardless of their upbringings or previous deals or whatever.
Country was what it was before because there were simply more areas of the country like that before. Things are more urbanized now. There are fewer pockets of the country where the sound of traditional country is relevant. Yes, to an extent that's sad, but it's reality and I don't think it's fair to paint modernized country as less country. That's not in any way an endorsement of "bro country" so please don't go there with this.
The fact that these songs all have pop appeal is a credit to their ability, not detrimental to it.

Just heard Stop, Drop and Roll for the first time and holy cow if that's not an absolute smash, I don't even know. That song could print money. Yeah, I've been talking about this one being a summer smash simply waiting to be released. Just an insanely catchy and radio-friendly tune which sounds like a future #1 hit to me.

Little surprised this has slowed down so much. I expected this to be a peak of #5-7 or so, but if it does, it's going to have to really work for it. "19 You + Me" lost 13 spins on today's update on Mediabase, and it's been trending slower as the past couple weeks have gone by. I would think Warner Brothers wouldn't let Dan + Shay not get their debut to the top 10. With three songs expected to go recurrent the next two weeks above them, I'm inclined to believe that the label will try to push this hard for another two or three weeks and then let it go as their debut album is released.
So far we've had two singles from new artists barely miss the top 10 with Jon Pardi ("Up All Night"), and Danielle Bradbery ("The Heart Of Dixie"). Luckily Dan + Shay appear to have more momentum and spark surrounding them than Jon or Danielle did when their songs we're peaking. Hopefully we will see "19 You + Me" hang on for a few more weeks and this update isn't the start of the stall.

I figure Warner is just trying to get Frankie Ballard at the top this week and once that's done the Dan+Shay song will pick back up. They also have Blake's song in the top 5 and Gloriana's new song entering the chart.

I can't get away from this song fast enough when I hear it on the radio, to be honest. I dislike the melody as a whole and their vocals in the chorus completely remind me of Rascal Flatts, which for me isn't a good thing at all. I think it's because the lead guy has a little bit of a nasal quality to his voice. I doubt their vocals will ever grow on me, but it would be nice if they would. I've heard acoustic performances and it was obvious that they're extremely talented, genuine and serious about their music.

Justin Bieber posted this on his Facebook and Twitter. Justin Bieber shared a link. 2 hours ago watch the end. good times. love surprises. love to Tori Kelly, Dan + Shay, Rixton and bro Cody Simpson youtu.be/oyDgYQEQX04So D&S is playing a gig with Pop artists such as Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber. I think that says it all. I pegged them as being with "this crowd" and not the Country crowd from the very beginning.

Dan and Shay seem like a very talented duo so I imagine they will get a lot of love from artists in a lot of genres. Not saying that you're wrong, but have you heard Pop recently? The type of music Dan+Shay play would have a hard time making it on the charts on a consistent basis.

Justin didn't just mention them, he performed with them. All I'm saying is if they want to be taken serious as Country artists they need to spend their time jamming on stage with other Country artists, not Simpson and Bieber. All D&S's song needs is a beat track put to it and they'd be on the Top 40 in no time.

They all have the same manager (or management group) as far as I know - Scooter Braun so I'm not at all surprised that they all performed together. I actually first heard their song when Scooter Braun tweeted about it as I posted earlier on this thread.

Another Dan + Shay song is now available on iTunes with the album pre-order, the song is called "Show You Off".
Also, all those artists mentioned have the same management, Scooter Braun/SB Projects. The event took place at SXSW and was a showcase of his artists. It's not that big of a deal. It doesn't matter how many times you state that Dan + Shay are not country. They're obviously not going to switch genres just because a few people think they're not country.

I don't mind variety at Country as long as it is GOOD like this music-I think it draws in a bigger audience and enriches the genre. I enjoy the pop-pier songs as much as the classic ones.
It will be interesting to hear the whole record-I'm tempted to preorder on the basis of what I've heard from the lead single and next, but will wait a bit to hear more.
But this group is a breath of fresh air-there is just something about their sound and beautiful voices/harmonies and of course ........no Bro country or Bro country lite.
Radio seems to like them, and their song is selling commensurate with their mediabase position. All things point toward continuing success for now; I"m looking forward to hearing more music like this to dilute what is out of there.....bonfire, truck, drink, sex, drink, drink, truck

The duo's latest song release, "Show You Off" is at #11 and "19 You + Me" is at #12 on iTunes country chart.

Dan + Shay posted a decent gain today, so you might be correct with the Frankie Ballard theory.

I do agree this will make the top 10 still, but Brett Eldredge, Brantley Gilbert, and Thomas Rhett are super close to catching them as of today on Mediabase. All three have been going much hotter than Dan + Shay have been as well. There's also the unstoppable forces "Automatic" and "This Is How We Roll" closing in fast. They will make the top 10, but how much higher they can climb after that, is anybody's guess. "Friday Night" was a #1 (Even though I've tried to eliminate that memory from my mind), so could they catch fire; sure, but it's too early to tell. They are on a very good label to help them along though.

Warner has two promo teams. WAR (Frankie's team) and WMN. I don't know if Dan+Shay are WAR or not but Frankie was that team's first #1. Scooter's company bought/invested jason owen's sandbox, Also home to LBT, Kacey, Shania, etc. the Bieber gig was a show for a charity and was put on at SXSW. It gives the duo exposure, nothing more. Plus why would it matter if "pop" fans dig their country music?

My personal opinion is if they want Country credibility in this early stage of their career they should play charity gigs (St Jude jams for example) with Country artists, not sharing the stage with the likes of Bieber, who personally I wouldn't even let my dog near after everything he has done in recent months.

While I respect your opinion, I really could care less if they grace the same stage as Justin Bieber. So far they have done everything in terms of venues. They had an exhausting radio tour that worked wonders for their debut single, played numerous clubs and small site venues, as well as opening for other country acts like Hunter Hayes. Performing with some pop acts isn't exactly on my personal lists of priorities for what not to do for a newer country artist. At the same time, I wouldn't expect this to be the final time they grace the stage with another genre's artist, but I also expect them to perform hundreds of shows for devoted country fans. I personally feel it's pretty unfair to dismiss their credibility in the genre based off a show with Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson.

Dan + Shay performed at the Heartstrings for Hope concert and at the Partners In Hope fundraiser both benefiting St. Jude. They were also part of the Country Cares for St. Jude Seminar, all events with other country artists. Forgive them for performing at one SXSW show with pop artists.

The Billboard chart lists them as Warner Bros./WAR so it would seem they are on the same team/'label' that Frankie is :) This one is definitely one of the slower moving songs in the top 20 right now but I think it will pick up the pace quite a bit soon. For a new artist's debut single, this got off to such a quick start that I can't really see it fizzling out just inside the top 10. Maybe it won't quite make it to #1 but I do think it will see a strong top 5 showing and I do think it has a shot at #1 yet. I am expecting it to get some big top 10 conversions soon.

^^^ I agree with JHolmes. I think it just rose so quickly for a new song it is slowing down a bit. It's still selling well, they have buzz, and I wouldn't be surprised to see #1-especially given the timing of Spring/summer approaching.
It hasn't approached burn out on my radio yet either, which is a subtle sign for me-I've actually only heard it on my radio once!
Will be interesting to see what radio does with this promising new duo.

Is Kacey Musgraves not touring with Katy Perry? Was about to bring this up! If you're a new artist, you're going to take any opportunity to share your music with an audience to try and gain new fans regardless the type of music they typically listen to. It was a smart to bring D+S to that lineup to expose them at a HUGE music festival and to add some variety to that group of artists already performing.

I have loved everything I have heard by these guys so far and I cannot wait for their new album! I think this is the most excited I have been over a new act in a while.
In my opinion they have done everything right as far as promoting themselves and "paying their dues" as a country act. Also if Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes can make music in this genre so can Dan and Shay.

This cover is honestly too good. Wow. Wow... I'm in love. <3 He might be a little young for me, but dang. I can't wait to get their album. I have a feeling it will be on repeat in my car until Rascal Flatts releases theirs. Then I will listen to that one for a month straight, and then after a month I will rotate the 2 of them.
