I need the official BBHMM instrumental now!!! It leaked but with some background vocals. There is also a very good instrumental with the vocals filtered out :) I need the FourFiveSeconds instrumental!

Still very general, generic answers. Just put this shit out. She better hop on this budding tropical/reggae trend, especially since she's been making songs like it for 10 years.

Arguably, the only time Rih regressed as an artist was with LOUD. Other than that, she doesn't follow the trends, she sets them. So no, I do not want her to jump on the reggae bandwagon.

I think her biggest missed single opportunities were "Breakin' Dishes" and "Jump".
"Fire Bomb" and "Te Amo" would have definitely been better choices than "Rockstar 101", but they didn't exactly sound like huge hits either.

For the first time in 10 years I'm starting to get a slight "has been" vibe from Rihanna. Of course, she can reverse this in no time with her next move, but she can just as easily continue what seems like the beginning of her descent. Arguably, the only time Rih regressed as an artist was with LOUD. Other than that, she doesn't follow the trends, she sets them. So no, I do not want her to jump on the reggae bandwagon. Rihanna's niche has been dance music and island vibes, so now that the two are coming together why would she NOT go there? She would do it better than anyone else and I'd certainly love to her her take on the subgenre more than I'd like anything she's released since 2012. And she doesn't "follow" trends? Calvin Harris and Sia were both big names in their respective home countries before Rihanna introduced/kickstarted them in the US. The world is bigger than the US and most trends come from abroad tbh- so imo Rihanna has always followed trends, but did it strategically and always at the right time.

This is the first time that she seems like she's just a famous person without a specific profession. It's been years since I last got an artist/singer vibe from her and I think she's totally over being 'just' a singer and prefers to put her name on brands and get her coins while chilling at home.

I mean she's been "over" the regular pop star outline since 2011. Loud was kinda her sendoff to that whole routine, and she excelled. There was an interview around the time of TTT coming out and We Found Love's obliteration that she said something along the lines of her being past the point of needing a gimmick or theme to her albums to sell them. From then on its pretty much been whatever she's wanted imo. In fact, there's probably been more building hype for R8 than there was for TTT and Unapologetic combined from her side.
Somebody here said that marketing wise, Loud was similar to how Prism was sold, as in it was meant to be a reaffirmation and major establishment of someone's superstar status. After that point, the act was a proven celebrity that could maintain their power through their name, and not so much the performance of their most recent hit. In some ways, it's natural and most people as successful as her do some kind of maneuvering away from jumping into the spotlight at every chance. She'll always be known as a singer because that's how she entered the public consciousness, and seeing as an entire generation has now come of age with her voice everywhere, that won't be forgotten. But her indifference to many noncreative aspects of her career is nothing new.

I listened to Unapologetic for the first time in a long time today. Why on earth was "Right Now" a single? I get that it's radio friendly, but it's beyond generic and Rihanna seemed to pay it dust. It didn't receive any performances or a music video and just felt like it went against what she was trying to do at the time musically.

Probably just to throw another "Pop" single out since she had two Urban songs killing at the time.

Word is they had a contract with David to have at least one of the two songs from the album become a single.

I still can't make out half of what she's saying on "Phresh Out The Runway".

Meanwhile, some of us have been bopping to that slice of Island perfection for half a decade. It's top ten-er for me in her catalog, and that's a mighty accomplishment given just how much of her catalog I love.

If she's working with Charli XCX, hopefully that means we'll get some fun pop tunes from her
