Bio: Betty Who blends indie and pop music into an irresistible mix of bold soundscapes, Top 40 hooks, and knowing lyrics. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, she played cello by age four and began writing her first pop songs in her early teens. Her voice is striking and memorable, and, according to Billboard, “shimmers with a self-assuredness extremely uncommon in an unsigned artist.” Her recent debut EP The Movement was welcomed with rave reviews, including being crowned “Best EP of 2013” by both Billboard Magazine and Popjustice, being called “This Year’s Major One To Watch” by MTV Buzzworthy, and being called “The Artist Who Will Save Pop Music” by Idolator, with The Guardian, Digital Spy, Arjan Writes, Kick Kick Snare, All Things Go, Pop On And On, Jon Ali, and countless others chiming in with equal praise, as the EP soared to 250K+ streams and 70K song downloads. She is currently working with producer Peter Thomas of Pulse Recordings on new material, and describes her artistic goal quite directly: “I’d just like to make people dance.” Listen: The Movement EP Stream on SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/bettywhomusic/sets/betty-who-the-movement-ep

I've been super into Betty Who since early this year & now I'm ecstatic that she has been signed to RCA Records! :) All of the news comes on the heels of the gay marriage flashmob proposal video which went viral last week (9 million views and counting) featuring her song "Somebody Loves You." The lead single "Heartbreak Dream" from her upcoming EP (I believe it's due in early 2014) will be out by the end of September. Here's a link to the Billboard article about her signing: www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/digital-and-mobile/5695542/betty-who-signs-to-rca-following-viral-wedding-proposal Definitely check out "The Movement" EP because I really believe the rest of the world will fall in love with her as much as I have.

I like the production on her songs. Vocally, she reminds me of Katy Perry with an accent.

"High Society" is my most-played song of 2013. Mine as well. What kind of perfection in a song?! :'(

*clears throat* yaaaaaaaaaaaas
Too bad most of you didn't listen to my (and others') recommendation of her so you can't try the EP for free, but it's worth paying for. Hopefully RCA helps her get some radio and TV airplay; she's definitely got the talent. also she should accept my friend request on Facebook.

I've admittedly neglected the three other songs, but "Somebody Loves You" has been stuck in my head for days. I'm excited to see what else she has to offer.

Just gave the EP a listen and loved every song on it. Is the resemblance between Somebody Loves You and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (by Whitney Houston) intentional? I read Billboard's article about her and she said that she wrote the song shortly after Whitney's death to honor her so it probably serves as an homage to Houston.

Her music is cute. Somebody Loves You definitely sounds like a Whitney Houston tribute song. There is currently a glut of indie-ish pop girls out there that my coworker keeps bringing to my attention and so far, the only ones who have made a serious impact on me are Lana del Rey and to a lesser extent, Lorde. Time will tell, ultimately, the impact these girls have on the pop consciousness.

Love the EP. I passed on a chance to see her live, and apparently she hangs out and has drinks with the crowd after the show. Can't wait for more music.

New radio interview with acoustic versions of the EP tracks, as well as 2 new ones "Giving Me Away" and "Alone Again" which I believe will be on her next EP. She's been performing those two at her shows all summer.

She performed "Alive Again" for us in the studio session last month. It's great, my favorite of the new EP tracks.
"Somebody Loves You" is getting a full CHR push from RCA.

New EP, "Slow Dancing," is out on April 8. The first single, "Heartbreak Dream," is out on February 18.
I heard "Alive Again" at a studio session with her back in August. It's great, very "High Society."

How is Betty not more popular on these boards? Saw her live for a second time last week and she is an absolute powerhouse performer. I couldn't wait to hear the new songs and they sound AMAZING in the studio. "Lovin' Start" and "Alone Again" are some of the best pop songs this year.

She's OK. I got sick of Somebody Loves You pretty early on and I haven't listened to the other songs on The Movement EP in ages. I did brush off SLY for a St Paddy's Day party though and people seemed to enjoy it. Anyway, she is playing in Boston tomorrow night but I can't make room in my schedule at this point. I will check her out at Governor's Ball, assuming there are no conflicts.
