I don't think today's country radio audience will bat an eye at the so-called "risky" themes of this song. With all the humpin-in-the-moonlight material being released on the male side of the genre, the audience is pretty much desensitized to what were once taboo subjects on country radio. In fact, I think if there is any stir at all it will come from radio folks wanting to create buzz or from Kacey's own camp. She has never backed down from her "rebel" image, and I applaud her for that. She used to tweet quite often about gay friends, acquaintances and the whole movement. I don't think she will suffer any repercussions from her stance with today's country radio audience, which seems to me more a traditional pop audience than a traditional country audience. Either way, I love the song, and I am a big fan of Kacey. I think this will do well.

Look what I just found on YouTube! They were certainly confused about what to release as her next single. Remember a few weeks ago when we thought it would be Silver Lining?

Thank goodness it wasn't that. Worst song on the album and not all that radio friendly. Dont even remember that being under consideration at any point (at least not publicly)

Video is being shot for this song next week. Frankie Foye who is doing Kacey's hair for the video mentioned it on her instagram with a picture of hair pieces. The caption reading "Getting #frankiefoye #hairpieces ready for big video with @spaceykacey next week!! #sneekpeek #lovecountrymusic". Frankie works extensively with Jennifer Nettles on everything that requires hair (award shows, videos, photo shoots, tv shows etc) since 2006ish, maybe a little longer than that even as well as various Victoria Secrets models. Thought I'd pass this on.

This song missed making its Billboard debut by only 200k in audience. With 3 songs likely going recurrent next week, and FYA probably posting a nice gain, I think we'll see a chart appearance on Billboard on the 11/2 chart. Good, because I don't want to wait another week.

Even though I understand all the talk of this songs lines about "Or Kiss Lots Of Girls, If Thats What Your Into" and "Roll Up A Joint Or Don't" which is expected cause this is a new kind of song for country radio. But I believe it's overshadowing this songs message. If you really listen and take this song to heart, there isn't many more uplifting songs out there. I can see Shane McAnallys point for this song being extremely important to him and Kacey. In a world people are always concerned what other people think and trying to be like Evreyone else, this song says just do what your heart wants you to do and create your own path.
I'm actually very nervous about this song at country radio. Not because I think it won't succeed, but that I want it to do very well at radio cause this song could be a polarizing song that could get the rest of the entertainment world focused on Country. My personal favorite line from "Follow Your Arrow" is..."Just cause you can't beat them, don't mean you should join them". Now that I think of it, that's my favorite line in any song out right now.
Like I told another poster with a PM.... Kacey has been a Godsend sent down from Country music heaven!

Hey now, everyone has their opinions. I never said her opinion was wrong, just was hoping that if I showed her a song that I thought fit her description better we may agree. Does that mean we agree that this one is worse? :)

Yep pretty much think the same terrible. I think my problem with her is that rolling a joint and songs about these topics pretty much disgust me .besides she can not sing live saw her as an opener and let's just say the crowd support was non existent . If you can't sing live and your vocal sound like a drunken sailor and you need over abundance of auto tune in the studio you are not worthy of my time or money. I think she tried out for a few reality singing shows and never made past the arena. Not impressed never will be if this song was a horse they would have to shoot it and put it out of its misery .Nobody is ready for this .I'll have night mares about this one .

I've seen her twice now and both times the crowd was really into it. The first time I saw her she opened for Little Big Town and she absolutely owned the stage and the crowd was singing along to every word of both "Merry Go Round" and this one. The second time I saw her she was the headlining act and while it was a small venue it was packed to the walls with people who knew every word to every song she sang. May I ask where you seen her live? I'm assuming that it was opening for Kenny Chesney? I figured her style of music and sound wouldn't go over well in that crowd, which I think she even mentioned being worried about before the tour. To each their own though hopefully one day you'll like her and if not "just follow your arrow wherever it points!" ;)

Of course not everyone will like every artist- I really do not understand the appeal of a few popular male artists out there. Kacey is no different- I personally feel she has a lovely voice and although I have not seen her live the two people I know who have said she was great-but that doesn't mean everyone will agree. But there are some unique artists that are sought after songwriters among their peers because of their talent. And also special for accomplishing the amazing feat of not only being so highly regarded in the industry that they have the most nominations at the upcoming CMA awards-but claiming this honor while writing/singing songs so different from the majority of country radio's 'fast food offerings'. Kacey Musgraves is that artist. Not everyone will like her of course, but her accomplishments are already impressive.

Yep Kenny Chesney concert at blossom in Ohio. She wasn't well received . Their is always some kind of drama around her music she needs to relax and have some fun not every song needs to be about some kind of injustice or rights topics .just as she has ran her mouth about male singers and frat boys and party songs about trucks I'm sick of songs about smoking weed drinking and depressing lyrics .I can say I'm very critical of female artist I like very few . Love Kellie Pickler, Adele ,Pink, Carrie's older stuff . Maybe that's why radio doesn't want to play women because fan's prefer males .only a few males have exceptional voices Scotty McCreery , Chris Young, Josh Turner Darius Rucker to name my top very distinctive voices .a guitar a chair and their voice no bells and whistles nobody can touch them . Besides the content of their music is pure class. Tim Mcgraw love him to .

No irony about it I was talking about this specific song as if a 5 year old wrote it the rest of my statements were directed to her other songs.I just don't get the appeal for her not sure what the excitement is about she is way to controversial.

Nice review from Amsterdam-wow I didn't realize that she is doing a headlining European tour already! Impressive. I guess she played Mama's Broken Heart (her co-write)-I would have loved to hear her take on that, although I love Miranda's single. thecountrysite.com/2013/10/20/kacey-musgraves-arrow-points-to-paradiso-amsterdam/"One of Nashville’s most popular singer/songwriters, Kacey Musgraves, recently crossed the water for the European leg of her ‘Same Trailer Different Tour’. The tour, which kicked-off in Sweden on October 2nd and ended in England on October 13th, also visited Norway, Germany, Holland, Scotland and Ireland" "The beautiful building that was build as a church between 1879 and1880 has seen many big names over the years. Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Prince, U2, Nirvana, Metallica and Toby Keith – only to name a few. " "Everyone in the room realized that this was a once in a lifetime chance to see this songstress play a small venue like this. From now it’s big stages for her. And knowing that only made the moment even more special. As always the show ended before you knew it but we all left with some great memories."

What a fantastic show – she sounded great, as did her band. I also got to meet her afterwards and she was very, very charming.

Thanks Avalyn-how interesting to see her performance! I'm always curious to see a songwriter's interpretation. I saw Eric Pasley sing "Bare Foot Blue Jean Night" when he opened for LBT at a small bar a year + ago. Granted it was acoustic, but still revealing to see how it is both a song and the singer to reveal a song's full potential.
I do admit I like Miranda's faster, more Over the Top performance better-it suits her to a tee, ha.

Seventeen adds on the country panel this week, for nineteen total and the seventh-most added song this week. Only one major-market add: KILT Houston.

Anyone else feel like this is going to get a huge boost from the CMA performance? I didn't realize she was going to get a full spot despite all the nominations. I was pretty pessimistic about the songs potential chart performance initially, but now I think this has a real shot to make a big impact. Who else is going to be performing/debuting a new song that won't already have significant traction? Luke and Jason will probably be flying up the chart with new singles. Blake, Eric, and Tim may very well be as well. Lee Brice, Chris Young, or Billy Currington? I don't see them being allowed to perform new singles. I guess George Strait maybe? And Little Big Town. This stands a good shot of shooting straight up into the 30s with a solid post-performance bump. I know LBT had a relatively strong performance last time around at the ACMs, yet stalled in the 20s, but that would probably be considered successful for FYA. And FYA seems like an obvious candidate to get post-performance hype unlike YSOTB.

A CMA performance would certainly help and give this song more attention, but television performances don't really provide very big airplay boosts at all. And anyway, PD's have known for a while that Kacey is the most nominated artist. 17 adds isn't too bad, but it's lukewarm at best.
I'm not saying this won't be a hit, and there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic yet, but I don't know that a CMA performance will do much for this one in regards to how it will perform at country radio.
