^ That is exactly why I'm pro-Brantley. He has a lot more grit to him than most of the other bros.
However, Brantley's enunciation is so poor that half the time all I can hear is "It's hard to bargle nawdle zouss??? With all these marbles in my mouth".
What are you trying to say about Eric though? That Eric's hard rocking songs aren't "true" to him? Or are you saying that Eric similarly doesn't pander?

^I meant that Eric's sound and style is as true to him as black is to coffee. It was a compliment :)
Funny, I actually agree that Brantley need's to enunciate more...sometimes hard to understand the words he is singing.

Yeah, it wasn't too tough to see this coming. This one got off to a fast start and it's been racking up the YouTube views and lighting up the sales charts as well.. Yeah, this is really blowing up. I had a bad feeling start about 2 weeks ago that this would be the new "face" of the bro-country movement. Brantley is already #2 on Hot Country Songs and that's with barely top 20-level airplay. This song is huge and it's only gonna be bigger. I have no doubt it'll hit #1 at radio and I believe it'll easily go Platinum, possibly even 2x Platinum.

Outside of FGL's awful lyrics for their latest single, this to me gets my vote for worst lyrics currently charting. When I was driving home today, I just couldn't believe how bad and nonsensical these lyrics are. The highlighted lines are the one's I find the most nonsensical.
"I see you and me riding like Bonnie and Clyde Goin' 95, burning down 129 yeah Looking for the law while I push my luck She's riding shotgun like it ain't no thing Turn the radio up, so the girl can sing right Pull into the the party, "Like y'all wassup"
"Tonight it's bottoms up Throw it on down Rock this quiet little country town Get up, drop a tailgate on your truck Find a keg and fill your cup, up Kick it on back Pretty little mama lookin' at ya like that Make ya wanna slide on in like "Girl what's up? Tonight it's bottoms up up, up, get them up Tonight, it's bottoms up up, up, get them up"
Damn girl, I gotta tip my hat Never thought a country song would make ya move like that, yeah And she's doin' it in daisy dukes Girl, she's got ya tappin' on a boy's shoulder Hey dog check this out And that's how the girls do it in the dirty south She'll have you on your knee, "Can I marry you? Tonight it's bottoms up"
[Repeat Chorus]
Now, obviously not every single song can be a classic masterpiece of poetry, especially when you want to write a uptempo fun style song. But this song tends me to think that the writers wanted to write a song with the title and hook already in place, so they just needed some filler, throw away lyrics to piece the cool title and catch melody together. I enjoy my fair share of diddy, and fun songs, but I guess I'm at a point of being overcritical due to me being just about bottomed out when it comes to the subject in these songs lately.

^ To be honest, I haven't even listened to Tim's song the whole way through since it's release. I turn the dial every time it comes on (The Highway doesn't play it much, if at all anyways). The fact that Brantley's doesn't have auto-tune makes it at the very least tolerable when I hear it, but that's certainly not an endorsing compliment.
Edit: looking at Tim's lyrics, and you're right about worse, but that's just because in Tim's song he's making up terms like "Love Gunslinger", and "Body Like A Honeycomb" which are just plain creepy.

He makes up for his lyrics like those with masterpieces like "One Hell of an Amen", "Halfway to Heaven", and "Modern Day Progidal Son". Hope the album is good.

"Savin' Amy", "Halfway To Heaven", "Bendin' The Rules and Breaking The Law", and "Hell On An Angel" are all masterpieces. My issue with Brantley is he's so inconsistent. For each "Savin' Amy" there's a "Kick It In The Sticks". For each "Halfway To Heaven" there's a "Bottoms Up".

This song has gained more than 1 million AI's on each of the last 4 days now. It blew right past Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Brett Eldredge, Dan + Shay, Scotty McCreery, and now Rascal Flatts too. Brantley's bullet is at +703! :O
I can't remember watching a song just fly past so many other strong-charting songs, especially in this part of the chart (top 15). None of the other songs have been able to put up any resistance. "Bottoms Up" is like a bulldozer, just pushing everyone else to the side.

With some very old (25+ weeks on the chart) tunes in front of him (some on the rise and others in freefall mode), and with a new CD set to be released on May 20th, this could conceivably tear through the top ten and perhaps reach the penthouse by that release date.
I also agree 100% about his rather poor enunciation; far more often than not, he sounds like a guy who just left his dentist's office with a jaw still swollen with novocaine as if he'd just had a root canal or something!!!!!

I'd say these big gains for BG are due to three songs falling at once and the song's above average sales. Radio seems about ready to stop playing the Dan + Shay song. Brett Eldredge's song is so generic and also has pretty low sales for being at #11. Thomas Rhett's song has great sales, but he is on the same label as Brantley and I can imagine they're trying to avoid a situation like when "Stay" blocked "Drunk Last Night" from #1 by getting Brantley to peak way ahead of Thomas. The one I am surprised about is "Rewind." I was anticipating they'd want Rascal Flatts to go up ahead of Brantley considering RF's album is set for release one week before Brantley's. Maybe Brantley's passing or Rascal Flatts is out of the label's control. At this rate, Brantley will probably make trouble for Eric Church's song. I definitely see "Bottoms Up" as a candidate for three or four weeks at #1 and it will likely become one of the biggest hits of the year. I just hope all those other Big Machine songs ("Rewind," "Get Me Some of That," and "This is How We Roll") don't force the label to cut BG's stay at #1 short. Whether people enjoy this song or not, it really deserves to get a bit longer stay at #1 than one week.

I swear, my radio PD's are praising this like it's the second coming of Jesus and it's drivin' me nuts. Thank God I'm back in school. *hides face behind Real Analysis book to look intelligent* The only songs I like from him so far are still "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" and "My Kind of Crazy" (wish the latter would've been released as a single), and at the direction his material is going, I don't think that will change anytime soon. If I have too much time to kill, I may end up checking out his album to see if there are any deeper songs. I also agree 100% about his rather poor enunciation; far more often than not, he sounds like a guy who just left his dentist's office with a jaw still swollen with novocaine as if he'd just had a root canal or something!!!!! Hahaha, this seriously reminds me of the time I was in choir where he emphasized over and over and over again how important enunciation was. In fact, it was to the point of over-enunciation! Don't remind me about that pesky root canal, though. Those things are beyond nasty.

Tried to get into "More Than Miles", but couldn't. Found it a little too bland and uneventful; while it was on the radio, it was a "take-it-or-leave-it" kind of thing for me. Not bad, but not that remarkable to me.

^ You didn't like "More Than Miles"? I thought that was a great song. That song, for me, has to be one of the most literally boring and generic tunes at country radio in the last few years. The production in particular is so faceless and lacks anything interesting about it. It's just awful, but I've felt that way about everything he's put out, albeit for different reasons.

"You Don't Know Her Like I Do" by far IMHO. ;) To be honest that's the only song I've enjoyed from Brantley to this point. "More Than Miles" was extremely overplayed on both The Highway and WYRK. Didn't think it stood out to begin with, and the fact it was drilled into the ground sealed it's fate for me not liking it.

I've heard from a lot of people it was overplayed, but my station didn't play it all that much tbh which is weird.

I agree entirely with this (well, minus the part about WYRK. ;)) - More Than Miles is tolerable, but You Don't Know Her Like I Do is really the only Brantley song I've truly enjoyed to this point. There's something about the quality of his voice that I just cannot get into, even on the best of songs.

15-8 this week. What caused THAT big a jump?! I don't know what caused it...probably just Valory doing their job. This song is selling incredibly well also...top 15 overall on iTunes all-genre. It gained more than 1 mil in audience each day on MB this past week, resulting in a 7.1 million gain on Billboard...an absolutely insane gain.

My mom: "With all your friends interpreting every country song by a male artist as misogynistic, I'm surprised they're not trying to squeeze any double entendres out of this song's title."

This is #1 a month before the album release date! What does the label do? Keep pushing for 2-3 weeks at #1, or move on to next single? But the danger is that he will only have a song around #35 on the album release week.
Also, any rumors on what the next single is?

This is #1 a month before the album release date! What does the label do? Keep pushing for 2-3 weeks at #1, or move on to next single? But the danger is that he will only have a song around #35 on the album release week. The album is out in a little over 3 weeks. "Bottoms Up" won't spend that long at #1 but it'll still be getting plenty of recurrent airplay come May 19. It might be recurrent by then, but it would still have the audience of a top 15 song. I think too much emphasis/worry is placed on the timing of when a song peaks and when the album is released. It's not as if, when the album comes out, people will think "Brantley Gilbert...now who's that again?" Those who want to buy the album will buy it, no matter when "Bottoms Up" starts to fall. If this song had peaked 6-8 weeks before the album release, that might've been a little bit different, but as it stands now, it's just fine. It's not different than what just happened with David Nail. "Whatever She's Got" peaked in late January and his album didn't come out until March 4. But it's not as if the fans suddenly forgot about WSG, or forgot who David was. And WSG is still getting a TON of recurrent airplay (I'm hearing it several times a day yet), which is working against his new single. Brantley, of course, is going to see much bigger sales numbers than David did. I don't really know what a good guess would be but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Brantley's album debuted with 75-100k, maybe even more.
