This is the definition of guilty pleasure for me. I actually quite enjoy this (though I am very tired of hearing it constantly -- being from the Kansas City area they can't seem to get enough of him on radio here), and I think it's the melody I really like. Lyrically and vocally it's nothing special though, and I've disliked all of the other stuff I've heard from Farr. "Redneck Crazy," for instance, was an instant station changer for me. From what I've been exposed to of his music, I don't understand why his stuff is doing as well as it is on radio now. I thought RC would be an anomaly and he'd go down as something of a one-hit wonder, because I'm not seeing a whole lot of talent or anything interesting in the guy that sets him apart from anyone. He's just very much "there."

I thought "Redneck Crazy" was great, personally, and I really liked "Hello Goodbye" too. This one didn't do much for me on the first few listens, but it's been a real grower.

I thought "Redneck Crazy" was great, personally, and I really liked "Hello Goodbye" too. This one didn't do much for me on the first few listens, but it's been a real grower. I also really liked RedNeck Crazy because it was different and IMO showed heartbreak without being sappy. Instead of making me cringe listening to the story of a guy out for revenge this song completely aligned me with the vocalist-my sympathies were with the jilted guy. And instead of giving a creepy stalker feel, it came off humorous. And although I can't stand the Duck Dynasty guys the video was pretty funny. Whiskey in My Water has grown on me; but I also agree his success puzzles me-his voice is just ok; as rough voices go Randy Houser is better. I think Columbia may have a good radio team. I remember when Casey James's second single (which was just ok for me) stalled in November and they kept it hanging on just by single spins for a positive bullet to avoid recurrence for six weeks until the Christmas freeze so that it could eventually top out at #15 (?).

Columbia has issued a "Top Shelf Mix" version for "Whiskey In My Water". You can listen to it on All Access

Well, according to an add in the Country Aircheck Weekly, there won't be another single from this album, as it advertises a "new single from a new album coming soon". Probably is the best idea for them. Not sure how well a 3rd single (excluding Hello Goodbye and Hot Mess) would have done, especially as it seems "Whiskey In My Water" was really running out of steam. Hopefully they'll come back with a catchy lead single to help drive some sales.

I like this one, too & loved Redneck Crazy. I think I caught him on the Stagecoach livestream and thought he sounded good live. Wouldn't mind seeing him at some point.

Two #1's on Mediabase, zero on Billboard. Not too many newer artists can claim that.

Falls all the way from #3 to #10 almost goes recurrent with Kenny Chesney's "American Kids" just a little under 200K behind Tyler. Very close!!!

Clearly, as evidenced by that big drop, radio would have let this go a month or two ago but Columbia kept it alive. I get that its a business, but I just find it so strange that radio is so willing to go along with the wishes of record labels. I wish I knew more about how radio promotion worked, and about how the artists and radio interact with each other so that everybody is more or less happy with the results (in this case, a peak much higher than if the song had been left to run its natural course).

I wish I knew more about how radio promotion worked, and about how the artists and radio interact with each other so that everybody is more or less happy with the results (in this case, a peak much higher than if the song had been left to run its natural course). It now has fallen from #8 to #17 (#18 on the rolling chart, but Jake will be recurrent tomorrow). It might lose a couple more spots come tomorrow afternoon's published update. I wish that radio stations would look at "Whiskey In My Water's" incredible fall from #1 as proof that these insane pushes do not look good on anybody but the label and the artist who get to call their song a #1 forever and ever. But then again that's what these pushes are for - to get that bragging right for a #1 song. I'm with you in wishing that country radio wouldn't go along with it. They probably don't care about the number of #1 singles there are and what that does for the prestige of a #1 single. To them it's not a big deal like it is to someone like me and probably strike up good relationships with the promotion department and executives of these labels. Too bad they aren't someone like me, who wishes for the day of 5-6 week #1 singles and for multiple songs having to settle for a peak of #2-5 on both charts. I know I sound like a broken record but I hate looking at this song's numbers, especially since it will be there come next Saturday on the rolling chart, just so I can get the pleasure of seeing it fall even further.
