There are so many songs on the chart just dangling on the edge of dropping, then 1 or 2 stations magically gives them a boost to hang on for another 3 weeks. The chart just needs a major clearing. These songs' handlers with small bullets or small negatives need to make up their minds. It really makes me wonder what goes on behind the scenes on exactly how this all happens (or how much money is exchanged). It's dramatically slowing down the chart.
I hope George's song takes off but it's been so long, either take off or pull the plug.

IGAC lost its MB bullet, so it's only guaranteed one more chart week there before going recurrent. And we'll find out tonight whether the song gets a grace week on BB, which will require an improved showing the following week or it will go recurrent there. And it might not even get the grace week (I'm saying 70% yes, 30% no). I wouldn't bet on it having enough of a rally in it to make the top 15 at Billboard, let alone top 10. So I'll take the one extra week, but I don't care at this point if it does leave.
This was a remarkable run -- country radio programmers didn't want to support this song and they were forced to. Even now the song has enough power to hold still, when the radio people can't manage to see it the right way. I don't know what George's next move will be, but I hope the radio people, at least some of them, have learned that George is still wanted by the listeners. Tough luck on the programmers -- there are some things they can't dictate.

Drops from #17 to #20 with no bullet so this probably means it will go recurrent next week.

Unless it gains in audience or spins this week :) As much as I like this song, I hope that doesn't happen. The songs in the bottom half of the chart desperately need a housecleaning and George's song is one that should go. And if he takes Chase Rice with him, way better

It was a good (albeit long) run. While discouraging to see this gem not go Top 10 (or Top 15 even), it was enheartening to see that many in the radio community did embrace this song.
Let's hope that if George continues to produce such strong songs that radio will play them.
I am a pessimist though seeing what has happened to Alan Jackson and "So You Don't Have to Love Me Anymore" and "You Go Your Way". Unfortunately, I think his record company at the time (Sony) gave radio an opportunity to not play him with "It's Just That Way", "Hard Hat and a Hammer" and "Ring of Fire" which preceded these two gems.

I'd imagine that George won't have another single off the album to go to radio, and the Top Ten streak will be over. It's sad but it's going to happen someday.

Up 167k on MB overnight. I don't think the song will re-bullet, but I'm not sure it won't either. Anything can happen. Tomorrow's MB numbers will still mean something, and that's good news to me. One night at a time, as somebody once said in a country song.

Another gain today, this time up 217k. I don't think this is ready to go recurrent yet...King George and his team continue to fight!

I didn't like today's numbers. While there are still three days for a recovery, I have a bad feeling and I think it's going to drop off on next week's BB. I'll post this, hoping to be way off. Why quit short of 40 weeks, anyway? Another push is called for. But I doubt we'll get one.

A -53 bullet on Mediabase as of Sunday evening, but its audience is at 24.150 million, slightly up from its Monday morning total of 24.091 mil. Somehow this is still hanging by a thread and unless it has a really sharp drop in tomorrow morning's update, it looks to me that it should barely re-bullet on tomorrow's Billboard chart.

Wow i am so damn pissed off right now. I could beat the hell out of everyone who was in his way. In front of him on the charts and them stupid a*s DJ's for not supporting it. This is a #1 hit way better of a song than Give It All We Got Tonight. This is proof right here that Real Country Music is dead in the water people.
Sorry for the rant but i can't help it.

drove to Austin this weekend greatest thing about passing all the small towns is that they still love traditional country. whichever country stations i was listening to was playing strait's music (mainly this song). since they're small towns i know it rly doesn't help the spins or AI count but it was still good to hear

WATZ played this so much that I started to burn out on it a little. Still one of his best songs IMO.

What I Got A Car has done is to end George Strait's 33 year run of having a Top 10 every year since 1981. I doubt we will have a streak like this again in our lifetimes. The new streak to watch is now Keith Urban's with a Top 10 every year since 2000 so he has 20 years to break the record.

And you're right, the local stations here gave IGAC a good run (heard it a lot over the weekend). Just as I was getting to reply to this "Troubadour" came on the radio haha, and it's not uncommon to hear 80's George a few times throughout the day. MCA probably could've handled this release a little better...I think releasing it during the lead up to Thanksgiving and Christmas hurt it if only because it lagged around the bottom of the charts for way to long. They easily could've shaved 8 or 10 lackluster chart weeks by waiting until after the holidays. They probably wanted to get something out to radio after "I Believe" fell off, but still I would've liked to have seen this get a little higher than its peak. Not sure where we go from here...maybe its another single ("That's What Breaking Hearts Do" probably has the best shot at radio) or they'll wait until another album is in the works before releasing anything new to radio. I'm thinking MCA will release some kind of "The Cowboy Rides Away Tour" live cd compilation sometime during the holidays and then George will release a new studio album next fall/winter 2015.

I loved this song and it was great that it was being played a lot, but I was really tiring of it, so even though it's disappointing to see this peak far lower than it deserved, I won't exactly complain if I start to not hear it so much.

I guess radio changed the name of this song to "I Got a Moving Van" to officially move George off the charts.

Even after two Entertainer of the Year wins from the C.M.A. and A.C.M. could not save I Got A Car. That's the state of country music right now. I think we can now say the streak is over for George Strait to land a top ten this year (unless he duets with a much younger artist).

While I agree that George's record is likely to go unmatched, I think you're getting the "At least one top 10 every year" streak confused with "most consecutive top 10's". Urban has the longest streak of consecutive top 10's (he hasn't missed the top 10 since 2000) but Kenny Chesney has had at least one top 10 in every year since 1995, and Tim McGraw has had at least one top 10 every year since 1994.

Completely forgot about Tim's and Kenny's runs with a Top 10 every year as I had Keith Urban on my brain and I thought Tim and Kenny had one year where they didn't have a Top 10, Tim with a 21 year run and Kenny with a 20 year run so in the upcoming years to come they might match them since they will be younger than George (Tim and Kenny at 59 if they match George's record) did when he had his last song to make Top 10 in 2013 and broke the streak with "Give It All We Got Tonight", so Tim and Kenny probably have a chance to match it or break it but they will come close to it. Anyways "I Got A Car" fought the good fight and surprised how well it did considering the way it started staying in the 30s for many weeks until it started climbing with some weeks better than others. I guess that we can still have another record with his Top 20 hits which is still active at 34 years.

It's stuff like this that makes me visit these forums less and less every day. I'm not happy about George being off the chart either, but being mean about a song that so many people like is a bit over the top.

I'm all for differing opinions, but this is the definition of "generalizing." I'm from a small town (and young), and I absolutely despise the "Party In your truck with a pretty young thing" theme in Country music right now. Just because something is popular doesn't mean you should put everyone in the same group. As for this song, it's fantastic, and it's a damn shame radio bailed on it. Regardless, I love this and it's one of Strait's best ever. I only hope the tides DO turn soon, and quality songs aren't lost at radio forever. Great run from the King, and my respect for him is unmatched, chart runs be damned. :)
