gaga will always have a successful career, along the lines of a christina aguilera. i think some people have really unrealistic expectations from her (like world domination)

Xtina had her first hit in 1999, she only took a dive until 2010, then she had three top 10s in the 2010s: 2 features and 1 duet, and she's still somewhat relevant, will Gaga last until 2024? I have my doubts, maybe, maybe not.

One can't really say anything about Aguilera until she releases her own material, as her last two albums performed disappointingly. Gaga had one commercial disappointment, so too soon to call her career a day.

I think she can too, but how exactly can she when she leaves the house every morning with a different costume on? For starters, she could dress normally. Then release something like "Second Time Around." Second Time Around is dated 90s R&B. Didn't she try that with DWUW?

Christina is having bigger charts hits (as a feature) 15 years into her career than Gaga is 5 years in.

One can easily argue that back to basics was just as floppy in terms of charts achievements as ArtPop: applause performed better than ain't no other man, DWUW slightly better than hurt, and GUY worse than Candymann but both were still flops.

For starters, she could dress normally. Then release something like "Second Time Around." Or have those amazing outfits from the Fame era back. "LoveGame" had her BEST look out of all her music videos, and IMO it's her most underrated #1.

I second the looking normal part, she went from having stage dress to looking like she belongs in GWAR.

Gaga had one commercial disappointment, so too soon to call her career a day. Your Body was vevo certified. Her features have done quite well, and Say Something would not have performed nearly as well without a veteran artist lightly laying vocals and pushing it.

Like I said, when she releases her own music and Vevo certification hardly is a barometer of commercial success/relevance. And, "Say Something" probably would not have performed as well as it did if it were just A Great Big World- but that's here nor there as far as interest in brand-new recordings from her, rather than ones she was tacked onto from an up-and-coming act.
But, to bring it back to the topic of this thread: she's in trouble, that can't be denied, but let's wait until we see how her next releases perform until we ring the bell on her hitmaking career.

Is this referring to Gaga or Xtina? Because Tina hasn't had a solo hit since 2006... pretty sure we can ring that bell.

I think this New York Post piece from December does a good job of really detailing how Gaga started to unravel. The biggest blow was her inner circle, that had been there since the Fame days, all jumped ship within a few months of each other. The team that crafted the Lady Gaga image from the start was suddenly gone. nypost.com/2013/12/14/what-happened-to-lady-gaga/

Well album sales in 2006 in general were way better than now I checked mediatraffic and B2B was the #21 best selling album of 2006 (it didn't made the year-end in 2007) ARTPOP was #25 of 2013 which is not much of a difference.

You're likely looking at one of the several shows that didn't sell out so the ticket prices were dropped drastically. Here are the prices for the ArtRave Dubai show: OH MY f**king GOD

On the topic of reinvention, that might help but I think the decline in sales is also because of the decline in quality. I don't necessarily mean the music (the singles are all good, the album otoh..) but other aspects like the looks, fashion, videos, performances, artwork design (just compare the tour posters from The Monster Ball to the Artrave one) etc, because she fired all the talented people from her team and replaced them with her friends or in the case professional directors, she replaced them with herself. I read a post on GGD about how everything looks so homemade this era and it's true

This song is done...and there's an album/era thread for general Gaga discussion already. Time to call it a day for this thread.
