I think all of the current female newcomers seem to have a very long shot at making it big. Katrina can't get her singles played despite her awesome vocals Julie's label keeps putting out the WRONG singles Miranda Lambert gets the #1 album in the format and still can't get her new song in the Top 30 Amy Dalley has released 5 singles (well, 4 really, but attempted 5) and not one has reached the Top 20, delaying her album Shelly Fairchild is promoted well these days but isn't selling much or getting any decent airplay Lauen Lucas is not going to do very much at all, apparent by her first two singles.
So it seems that not many females are making it big. If Julie records a top-notch single from her next album that is a bonafide Top 10, WATCH OUT. Her next album may go platinum. CMT sure loves her.

And so does Luke Lewis for that matter. He gushes all over her. Why she isn't a superstar, or on Gretchen's level yet, I don't know..that man has thrown Mercury behind her and gotten no where. Shame too, because we could use some new music.

Julie's working full-force on her next album this summer....while playing some tour dates on her time off. From what i've heard, Mercury/Luke/Julie is taking their time on this album. They are being very very very picky on which songs are even considered to be on the album, let alone making it.
Julie has also written quite a bit over the past year or so while she was out on the road with Rascal Flatts. It's hard telling if any of them will make the album, but I do think it would give Julie a little more credibility if she does.
and I agree with Steelo, "Wake Up Older" was a top notch single. Actually, "Break Down Here" and "Wake Up Older" are some of the best songs sent to country radio in a long while. "The Chance" is a great song....just wasn't a great choice for radio. I think country radio's issue with BDH and WUO is that radio wasn't ready for songs with such feminine-positive attitudes. As much as Martina's called a "feminist", I can't recall her singing a song with lyrics such as "Slept in my make-up/didn't get my teeth brushed/crashed on the couch and now my mouth tastes like yesterday's news" and I could NEVER see any of Martina's songs including the line "getting it on" I just think radio was intimidated by Julie.
If Julie can keep her raw and unique sound...while finding material that isn't quite so intimidating in radio's eyes, I could see her doing very well at radio. I, personally, wouldn't mind if Julie recorded more material like "Wake Up Older' and decided to go the indy/americana route.

I'm not the biggest fan of the actual sound of her voice, even though I've seen her live and think she's a good singer... does that make sense? I don't know what kind of writer she is, but I hope her next album has more tempo. It'll help the flow of her record, plus she has the stage presence to pull off up-tempo numbers. We'll see...

I should clarify that I really, really enjoy the song 'Wake Up Older' and I think it is a top-notch song.
My problem was really with 'The Chance' which I knew from the start was going to bomb at radio (still not sure why the label didn't). After 'The Chance' didn't succeed, they probably should have released an uptempo song to kind of make things different for the fans and country radio. A song like 'No Way Out' would have done just as well as 'Wake Up Older' at the very least, and in fact I think it could have done better.
The thing that ruined 'Wake Up Older' was the timing. After a ballad was released and bombed, WUO was pretty much doomed to the same fate. If they went with it as the second single or the third single after NWO or 'You Ain't Down Home', I'm sure it would have made the Top 25...even if radio was intimidated.
I think Julie can make it. She just needs to have the right songs out at the right time. BDH was an excellent choice for a debut single, and did well for her commercially. Her album sales were very strong during that song's run, and rightfully so. :) .
