Released November 6th, 1990 1. "I'm Your Baby Tonight" 2. "My Name Is Not Susan" 3. "All the Man That I Need" 4. "Lover for Life" 5. "Anymore" 6. "Miracle" 7. "I Belong to You" 8. "Who Do You Love" 9. "We Didn't Know" (Duet with Stevie Wonder) 10. "After We Make Love" 11. "I'm Knockin'" Criminally underrated. Probably Whitney's strongest album. Sure, the last couple of tracks are fillers but the rest are all well-produced songs. The title track is among her very best and "I Belong to You" is a true gem, I rediscovered it on last year's I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston compilation. It's her first album where she collaborated with LA Reid & Babyface while Michael Masser's involvement was minimal. Not really a huge success as it did not reach #1 anywhere among major markets but sold decently.

The title track is incredible, what can I say about Whitney other than that she is a national treasure of epic proportions. I love her and miss her!

LOVE "I'm Your Baby Tonight" "My Name Is Not Susan" "All the Man That I Need" "I Belong to You" [Such a smooth jam. Very underrated gem indeed!]
I dislike the rest of the album.

I used to think this was by far the weakest of her first 4 albums, but I grew to like it a lot more. I wish they would have released "Lover for Life" and "Anymore" instead of "Miracle" and "We Didn't Know" though.

Love this album! One of her best, IMO. I like/love every song on the album, which can't be said about her first two.

I've never been fond of most of Whitney's album tracks, but she had a few decent ones on this album. Absolutely love the title track & 'ATMTIN'. The title track was my jaaam growing up.

'Miracle' is among her cheesiest, corniest singles but other than that it's a solid album.
The title-track is one of her best uptempo singles. It's like a sped-up version of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' and absolutely Nippy's best music video imo.
'All The Man That I Need' is an epic vocal performance, just huge. 'I Belong To You', 'Lover For Life' are great R&B slow jams while 'My Name Is Not Susan' and 'Anymore' are great uptempos.

'Miracle' is among her cheesiest, corniest singles I think it was very different to her, not like her regular ballads, due to the subject matter. Ironically it's her only hit that never featured on any of her greatest hits albums (except the random ballad compilation). I wonder if Clive does not like it or for some silly reason like that. At least the Mariah duet made it to The Ultimate Collection.

The album also would have been stronger if they replaced "After We Make Love" and "I'm Knockin" with "Feel So Good" and "Dancin' On The Smooth Edge," but I assume they didn't want to load the album up with too many similar sounding polished quiet storm ballads.

"Lover for Life" is her best album track/non-single. But this is my favorite album of hers.

Thank you for this thread! I love this album, seems it was the first album that Whitney had a lot more say and control over her music and which direction she wanted to branch into as an artist, and didn't care what Clive had to say about it.
I didn't appreciate this album as much as I should've when I was younger, I really grew to love it within the last 5 or 6 years. "All The Man That I Need" is probably my favorite ballad of her's of all time, not to mention I'm obsessed with the unreleased gems, "Feels So Good" and "Dancing On The Smooth Edge."
"Lover For Life" and its jazzy, relaxing production and pristine vocals makes me feel like I'm floating on a cloud when I listen to it. "I Belong To You" also brings the same feel.
"I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "My Name Is Not Susan" are the JAMS. She brought that new jack swing sound to both songs in full effect.
She also had her hand in producing her first song, the gospel-flavored "I'm Knockin" :)

This is actually one of my favorite Whitney albums. Love most of the songs on it, though I wish they had included "Feels So Good".
And to be honest, Whitney needed an album like this, as at that time she was in danger of losing her urban fans.

The live version is good (great vocals), but I prefer the mellowness of the album version.

This is along with MLIYL my favorite Whitney album. It's the first album of hers that I ever listened to. My favorites are the title track, All The Man That I Need, Lover For Life (saxophone solo!), I Belong To You and I'm Knockin'.

"I'm Your Baby Tonight" is probably my favorite single of hers of all time. I will never forget that I was possibly listening to it and singing along at the moment of her death. :'( I was driving back to campus with friends, and all of a sudden I had the urge to put on IYBT. Later that night when I went to the gym, I saw the reports of her death and just stood without moving for a few minutes before my mind started wishing is wasn't true.

My favorite Whitney album and sadly the last time where her vocals were at its peak. I agree that it's criminally underrated compared to her first two albums. Tracks like "After We Make Love" and "Lover For Life" bring tears to my eyes. Such beautiful tracks! I played the hell out of "My Name Is Not Susan", "I Belong To You", and "I Don't Need You Anymore". I'm very certain that I've heard my dad played "Miracle" once when I was really young. It sounds so much like Babyface's "Where Will You Go". :'( I miss early 90s music.

Actually, I love After We Make Love, so I disagree. I think it's one of the best from the album.

I agree. More so, this tracklisting would be a true classic album for me: 1. I'm Your Baby Tonight 2. Feels So Good 3. Dancin' on the Smooth Edge 4. All the Man That I Need 5. Lover For Life 6. Anymore 7. I Belong to You 8. Who Do You Love 9. Takin' A Chance 10. Higher Love

"Dancin' On The Smooth Edge" should have absolutely made the album. Probably wouldn't have changed the singles, but it should have been there.

Still my fave! All the tracks give me nostalgia feels....
I love the cross earrings she wore in this era.
