Wow, this is his slowest ascending #1? Even slower than "Good Directions", which seemed to spend an eternity in the #32-#33 range?

I believe this is also Marc Beeson's first ever #1 single and second top 10 single as a writer ("When She Cries"). I know he co-write "Let Me" by Pat Green which barely missed the top 10 on both MB and BB in late 2008/early 2009.

I know it's a long time. I'm just surprised that a.) the song has been out that long, b.) that this song's chart run was even SLOWER than a song that spent an eternity at #32, and c.) that someone who's had eight #1's in eight years has so little momentum. Also, is #62 the lowest Hot 100 showing for a #1 country hit in the past 15 years or so? Previous lowest I remember is #61 for "Beer in Mexico".

He's written some great songs over the years (I'm In Love With A Married Woman, Be Grateful, If She Don't Love You, Long After I'm Gone, Phones Are Ringin' All Over Town, What I'm For), but the only other top 10 I could find was Buffalo Club's "If She Don't Love You". This is far from my favorite of his, but hopefully this will get him some more cuts (writing with Sam Hunt certainly doesn't hurt either).

Well if this 37-week long trek results in him winding up with Billboard's #1 single for the second straight year, then I seriously doubt if anyone at his label will be all that upset.
However, it IS unquestionably the deluge of bro-country stuff over the past couple of years, combined with far too many PDs and MDs who are absolute slaves to the BB & MB charts which is certainly responsible for slower & slower charts, to which you can add a ton of underwhelming tunes many of the format's biggest stars who wind up clogging the charts simply because they feel that they have to play every single by every format superstar, even if it's something as gruesome as 'Truck yeah' or '1994' as well as a ton of other singles which never should have been recorded in the first place, let alone wind up getting released as a single.
When the MDs and PDs feel that they must play all of the current bro-country dreck, then the inevitable result is that a lot of standout songs are going to fall by the wayside, starting with 'I Got A Car', which absurdly fell out of the Mediabase top 50 recurrent airplay chart the week before last, the latest case of adding insult to injury.
It certainly makes things a lot tougher for standout females such as Sunny Sweeney & Kacey Musgraves, whose debut CDs are both flat-out masterpieces IMHO, and two CDs which i still play a TON!!!
For any established artist such as Billy or Joe Nichols to have to crawl up the charts like this is downright infuriating, to put it mildly, but if a relative newcomer crawls up the charts in a similar manner even without reaching #1 in some cases and wins up with the year's #1 single with standout tunes such as 'Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?' in 2011 at Mediabase or 'Love Like Crazy' at Billboard in 2010, then that's another story.

[Even "Beachin" does better by progressing one to #67 and unexpectedly Brantley Gilbert leaps to #68 ]

Nothing new here, ton of songs written like this on Music Row daily but, it's a nice song and well written for it's style. Strong melody and good lyrics, great production (not over the top). Plus, the fact that it's NOT bro-country is always a PLUS in my book. This one is simply fun and will be a good sing-along for Billy at his concerts. I would have predicted an easy Top 30 hit, but #1 actually surprises me.
