Not a surprising choice. This one was the most popular of his album tracks when it was first released last week. GMSOT didn't stand out to be when I listened to the album, so I'll have to give it another listen or two.
Edit: After re-listening to this one, all I can do is let out a big sigh. This one will blend in perfectly with every song just like it on country radio and will be at least a top-5, possible #1 hit. How many more of these 'hot girl' songs do we need? >:(

Took all of two lines to elicit an eye roll, so I knew it was going to be a winner. It's just so refreshing to hear a song about a guy drinking and throwing tired pickup lines at a girl. And when he tells her she "shakes her money maker like a heart breaker", I mean what girl isn't going to melt at a line like that - it's like he's a poet or something. Maybe he should try his hand at songwriting some time... Here's a link if you want to listen

Great another song where "that" refers to "girl" and her behind in the same song. We can't have too many of those now!

This, "Call Me Up" and "In A Minute" felt like the obvious songs for follow-up singles. No surprise here. Kyle,
But he didn't write it, his father, Cole Swindell and Michael Carter (both the latter 2 are buddies of Luke Bryan) did :)

Just another safe choice from Valory. This song is just there to me. Pretty much along the same themes as "Something To Do With My Hands" and "It Goes Like This". Don't hate the lyrics but is just the same old crap we had throughout this year. And I will however say I can't stand the line "Shake That Money Maker". Just a pet peeve for me. This is Country (Not pop). Should do well following up a number one (Which cracked fifty million in audience). I expect a top 5 finish in the end though I'm not a huge fan of the song overall.

How many songs like this are going to keep being rewritten and rerecorded? The buying public is just that stupid to notice this pattern! The last 3 or 4 years are killing what Country music's forefathers and mothers created! The art of a story used to be what made a hit! I am a Country fan but not to what it means to be today, but what it meant before this crap took over!

This single choice was not surprising. Again not a terrible song, but why can't Scott Borchetta release more "Beer With Jesus" type songs instead of blah. At least it is a interesting discussion with people wether you enjoyed or was against "Beer With Jesus". Guess I'll see what Thomas has in store for album number two. But so far to me he's batting 25% with his singles.

In the 2000s, which is an era a lot of people love in here love (including myself), TIm McGraw recorded a song, "Things Change" because people who loves the 90s country were saying the EXACT things you were. I buy a lot of new songs that a lot of Pulse hates. I really don't appreciate being called stupid because of it. Times change, music changes, and more importantly, style of music changes. Do you think Rock is the same now as it was 25 years ago? Pop? Any style of music for that matter? You either adapt and like the new sound, or you listen to the songs you once loved on your iPod and enjoy them that way. It's just wishful thinking to hope that suddenly country music is going to revert back to how it was 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago.

It's just wishful thinking to hope that suddenly country music is going to revert back to how it was 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago. I'm just tired of the same songs being re-written and re-recorded about trucks, butts, beer, partying, and pick up lines. It isn't like that songs with other subjects aren't being recorded and released (Failed singles "What are you listening to" and "Someone Somewhere Tonight" being examples). But for every 1 "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" or "Merry Go Round" that make the top 10 there are 10 "Get Me Some of That's". It is the labels that are sending these same themed songs to radio (cause that's all they want) therefore the causal listening public buys them the most, they don't have the option of hearing stuff with deeper measure on their FM radio commute. So it educates these listeners into thinking this is all there is about Country if they haven't listened for years. Most people don't buy full CDs for 1 song anymore so they'll never know hidden gems even artists who release this cookie cutter mess to radio also do record. Radio "dumbs" down listeners in this way is a better way to put it rather than stupid. I don't see how Country radio can advance the genre when they won't play more various subjects like they used to. Its not progression to hear songs about butts, trucks, and partying 10 times an hour. The 2000s were great but even a lot of Chesney, Brad, Flatts, and even some Carrie songs probably couldn't compete with the Thomas Rhetts and FL-GA lines of today cause their radio singles most of the time meant something. In the 2000s the themes were varied a lot just like the 90s were. It's only been in the last few years where more and more frat stuff has taken over the genre on radio. Tim recorded that song cause people were pissed about his wife Faith, Shania, and others crossing over to Pop. But their music wasn't cookie cutter in theme, just very Pop sounding for the music of the day.

This song is about what I expected as a follow-up to his radio smash, and GMST will likely take Thomas into the top 5 or further. With a song title such as this I knew going in what to expect, and alas came away with nothing more or less. We'll see later how my opinion wraps around this one. Thomas is new to the scene so being the open-earminded listener I am I'll give him more chances to prove himself.

You folks are braver then me, with a title like that I'm not going out of my way to hear this. I did a very short sample preview of his album without paying much attention to song titles last week though. There was nothing on it that grabbed me by the snippets. Apparently "Beer With Jesus" was a fluke. Long live story-less cliches about beer , trucks , & getting laid. Yay.

It Goes Like This opens at #2 country and #6 top 200 after 36,000 copies were sold. Congratulations, Thomas Rhett!

I like the feel of this song. It's very laid back and almost under-produced. Also, I can cut a 22-year-old a lot more slack on this subject matter than I can a 37-year-old *cough*Luke Bryan*cough*.

Ofcourse two of Luke Bryan's friends wrote this song with subject matter like this. But I actually am really liking this, not nearly as annoying as so many of the other drinking/hitting on girls dime-a-dozen country songs today. The title is by far the worst song of the song.

I, like many of you, am not a fan of bro-country. But for some reason, something really draws me in with Thomas Rhett. He sings about the same subject matter, yet I really enjoy his songs. The others - not so much. But I think it's because I love REAL music. When this stuff is coming from a grown man like LB or JA, it's not believable. Yet, Thomas Rhett is just a kid. This is the stuff that he does. So, as mediocre and repetitive as the lyrics may be, it's still the truth, coming from him. Plus, I'm a 17 year old girl and this is the kind of stuff/fluff that a normal 17 year old girl listens to.

I LOVE Thomas Rhett's voice but the lyrics in the song reach a new low for cringeworthiness. I'd give the melody an A, his vocal an A and the lyrics an F. Since I'm pretty good at tuning out lame lyrics (thanks Luke for giving me lots of practice), I'll give it a B over all. But I hope he knows that a little part of all of us dies everytime he says "moneymaker."

^ You know the first time I heard this song I agree with you and say the melody is pretty enjoyable and there was a sliver of hope (The title was a quick turn off). But as soon as those lyrics started I just shook my head and let out a sigh. The lyrics in the chorus not only are bad with the moneymaker line, but it's very dull and cliche. Throw away lines like "Love the way your wearing those jeans so tight", and "I never seen anything I wanted so bad, I gotta get me some of that". There are others in the verses but I will stop there because I dont want to write out the entire song. Again, I was a big fan of "Beer With Jesus" so I thought I would be hearing more of that from Thomas, but I guess I was wrong. I believe he has legit talent, but it's being wasted on songs like this IMO.

^ For some reason, the first thought that came to mind when viewing this music video was..
"This ain't your 90's country anymore" ;)

I don't see this becoming a hit for Thomas anymore. It may sneak into the Top 20, but that's where it'll end. It's lost a lot of momentum. Not really. It moving up quite nicely. Would have been even higher if not for the lame clear channel deals for RF and Eric.

Yup , I gave it the ole college try. I couldn't make it through the song. Another shameless bro-country song about the female anatomy. Cause we really NEED more of those. Thanks Trace Adkins!

Yeah, this song has been doing quite well. And it's shaping up to be another big digital hit. Compared to some of the big names, sure, this is moving slower. But when all is said and done, I expect this to be at least a top 3 hit, probably another #1. Radio and the younger fans and bro-country demographic are all over this type of music. I don't like anything from Thomas Rhett. "Beer With Jesus" was decent, but that's it. I have not checked out the full album (just previews) but of the songs I have heard, I find them to all be severely lacking in lyrical depth. That includes this song as well as "It Goes Like This". His songs seem hook-based with very little in the way of a story built around that hook. None of his songs sound very country to me either, so it just bothers me that artists like this continue to get marketed to the country genre while guys like Greg Bates and Chris Stapleton (whose sound is much more rooted in country) get kicked to the curb. have any of you seen the video? He is so awkward and uncomfortable to watch, lol. I haven't seen any of his other videos, so I'm not sure how those are with him. I've seen the video and this was my exact thought as well. He looks very awkward in it. I actually did find the "It Goes Like This" video to be pretty good, but I only watched it once or twice because I don't like the song. It was fairly appealing, though, at least visually and in terms of the creative concept they went with.
