It must suck to have such a need to throw shade towards a song that is obviously smashing where the only thing you can muster is it losing .045 percent of sales in the past day. They're only doing it to mock cumulus for the same reason people keep mocking Pitbull.

Say Something is kind of "Let Her Go" level. But promoted by The Voice, AMAs, Victoria Fashion Show, The X Factor(two twice), it made #1 on iTunes several times. Once without big promos, it drops to #4. This kind of ballad single is always hard to make #1. Besides, now is the iTunes Gift Card week so new singles usually drop from the iTunes cahrt.

This song made it to the top 5 of the hot 100 and is approaching top 10 on Mainstream. also its top 40 in a couple major markets like New Zealand .it has already far exceeded expectations... so I think it's safe to say this has already achieved enough IMO.

Yes, but "Timber"'s holding up fine.

It has nothing to do with length of annoyance from the original poster, but rather the arrogance of the original poster.

Sold 238k this week:
A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" remains at No. 1, selling 238,000 downloads (up 2%). That number could grow even larger next week, once the traditional rush of purchases made with newly-received gift cards kicks in.

This continues to hold up really really well. It's evident that it fell to #4 to make room for older more established songs that are being purchased by Itunes gift card goers. It's very evident to me that by its fall and stabilization at #4, this will go back to #1 in January to coincide with it's increasing presence at radio.
Say Something is going to be the beast that Pulse will have to confront and accept this winter. I can't tho at the "Let Her Go" comparisons. Did that even make it past #5 on Itunes? If TV promo is the only reason why Say Something got to #1, then it would have dropped off much more drastically, but instead it continues to be the highest ranked song in the Itunes top 10 with the least radio exposure. Some are obviously mad and threatened that their favorites might get blocked come January.

"Timber" isn't really an older, established track, though- neither is "The Monster." "Counting Stars" has been out a bit, though.
SS is not really a track that would benefit from gift-card users, as some have noted.

SS is not really a track that would benefit from gift-card users, as some have noted. Timber came out exactly one month before Say Something and benefited from timing. The song has twice as much airplay as Say Something. In one month, Say Something will be exactly where Timber is now, except with better weekly sales than Timber.

Again I'm not sure what argument anyone can make that could make Say Something's situation look gloomy. With significantly less airplay, it only trails behind three much older radio established songs. It continues to sell more than other songs with higher airplay, and is keeping newer songs who are catching up in airplay, behind. What more does one need to spell out success without people rushing in to make irrelevant excuses. I just can't with this board. These excuses would not be made if it wasn't because of Christina and that is evident now.

Would you be so supportive of this song if wasn't for Christina? Would this board act like this song wasn't going to #1 if it wasn't for Christina? Christina helped accelerate the process but this song would've been a hit in some form regardless on it's own accord.

This song has been out for months, got national exposure on Dancing With the Stars and it didn't even crack the Top 200 on Itunes and stalled at #27 on hot AC. Dead at anyone thinking pop radio would've picked this up had Christina not re-recorded it.

The real question is, would the board act like this song wasn't going to #1 if you weren't so arrogant about it? Personally, I think this song will be one of the biggest hits of the year and I do think Christina helped give it the push it needed (it *could* have been a hit on its own a la Gotye but that's besides the point) but you've made supporting Christina so unbearably hard. Half of the bullshit some of you people argue over is all tentative crap that will decide itself when the dust settles and all of the songs in question have completed their chart run. I never, for the life of me, understand why people insist on arguing and debating over predictions when anyone's guess is as good as everyone else's. It's just such an incredible waste of time when all everyone has to do is put forth their thoughts and simply wait and see.

Although I understand your point MAX, it is significantly more common to read posters bashing and not acknowledging anything Xtina does. So in this case I prefer cumulus' 'arrogance' over the Greek chorus of posters claiming this song could've been a hit even if Nicole Sawfjtwshher had been the duet partner, or saying that this song was a hit thanks to Pitbull, etc. It gets frustrating and annoying. Also tbh cumulus is much less annoying than other Stans, including infamous Legendtina (RIP :'( )

I personally think this *could* have been a hit without Christina - although it's definitely a lot less likely. I'm not shading her at all. I do think a lot of it is because of her and I've explained my reasons why back on page 2 or 3 that I still stand by. I think her minimal role in this song is helping it a lot more than if she had a more commanding presence and I think that's important for how this song plays out in the end.
The problem both sides face is that too many people have made it a black-or-white situation where they give Christina either 100% of the credit or 0%. Anyone who boasts either side and does so proudly are going to be seen as arrogant and annoying.
PS: Pitbull has absolutely nothing to do with this song's success in any way, shape or form. His only involvement is if Timber becomes a main competitor.

That is something I'm assuming you've assumed simply because I have decided to think logically and be vocal over what was the next big #1 hit? I was in the billboard hot 100 thread and noticed how everyone was intentionally ignoring Say Something, then I learned that this board has had long long history of discrediting Christina, so I thought I would splash a little sense into you guys and now suddenly I'm an Xtina fan? What if I'm A Great Big World fan? Since according to you this would've been a hit with or without Xtina.

I'm all about giving credit where credit is due and trying to see and present the logic in everything, without focusing on one person. You, my friend, are here for Xtina only. It's not like Christina is the only diva discredited around here and I'm sure people are aware of her hitmaking days of ten years ago. She's had a poor streak. I think her proper comeback is pending. Your defensiveness isn't really helping her though, tbh.
