I'm ecstatic to see "Medicine" on there! So you guys are happy 2 non-country songs are charting on the country chart and will receive radio play, but continue to bash radio programming for playing current country songs you don't personally label as "country", such as Florida Georgia Line or Luke Bryan. ?? 1) What is the other song you speak of (besides "Medicine," which you quoted)? 2) Regardless of whether Shakira is a country artist, and even though "Medicine" isn't a stone cold country tune by any means (it's very contemporary), but it is a helluva lot better (and more country) than any of the songs Florida Georgia Line has ever released. The fact that they label themselves "country" does not make them automatically more country than a Shakira song. And the Shakira song has not received an adds date and I have heard no plans for it to be an official single, so all its airplay thus far is unsolicited anyway.

Oh, well I don't think "Hey Brother" is country because of the EDM production on it, so I don't really feel like it belongs on this format. The Shakira song, however, is a totally different story. While it would be at home just as easily on the Adult Pop format, I do feel like it has a place on country radio. It was written by Shakira with Hillary Lindsey and Mark Bright, who have huge country credentials as a songwriter (Lindsey) and record producer (Bright), and it features one of the biggest stars of the genre today, Blake Shelton.

I'm sure he was just commenting on how neat it was to see a song of her's grace the country chart at all. Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan's music is not enjoyed by some and loved by others. There's different opinions on their music. I don't understand why someone must get defensive when someone doesn't like someone else's opinion on certain songs or artists. Most of this forum sites specific reasons for why they don't like their music or why he or she doesn't agree with were country radio's programming is going. I feel no need to bring up FGL or Luke's recent music regarding a simple feel good post about a song that will likely not endure a 15 week climb to #1 and become a country radio gold title like FGL's singles.

MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Randy Travis topped the chart 24 years ago this week with Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart. He was #1 for the fourth and final week, becoming country's first four week #1 since Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson in 1978. Before discussing Travis and his chart achievement, let us list a few others: Last five week #1: Here You Come Again-Dolly Parton-1977-chart wise her biggest hit Next five week #1: Love Without End, Amen-George Strait-1990-chart wise his biggest hit Last six week #1: Luckenbach, Texas Back To The Basics Of Love-Jennings and Nelson-1977-chart wise Jennings' biggest hit Next six week #1: It's Your Love-Tim McGraw and Faith Hill-1997 Last seven week #1: There Goes My Everything-Jack Greene-1966-chart wise his biggest hit Next seven week #1: The Good Stuff-Kenny Chesney-chart wise his biggest hit Last eight week #1: Once A Day-Connie Smith-1964-chart wise her biggest hit Next eight week #1: Amazed-Lonestar-1999-chart wsie their biggest hit Last nine week #1: Almost Persuaded-David Houston-1966-chart wise his biggest hit Next nine week #1: None Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart came from Travis' 1989 CD, No Holdin' Back. The first single was a remake. It was It's Just A Matter Of Time. It was a #3 pop and a #1 r&b hit for its songwriter Brook Benton in 1959. Sonny James was the first to make it a country hit in 1970 (#1). Glen Campbell followed in 1986, taking it to #7. It became the tenth chart topper in Travis' career in late 1989. It was originally recorded for a CD called Rock, Rhythm & Blues. Travis was the ONLY country artist on the CD. Second single, Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart was released in January, 1990. It hit #1 in March and by staying at #1 for four weeks, it became the biggest hit of Travis' career. It wrapped up its chart topping run just nine weeks after Clint Black topped the charts for three weeks with his biggest hit, Nobody's Home. That was the first three week #1 since Travis' Forever And Ever, Amen in 1987. BOTH Billboard and the American Country Countdown ranked Nobody's Home and Hard Rock Bottom Of Your Heart #1 and #2 respectively in their year-end lists. Third and final single, He Walked On Water peaked at #2 during the summer. Other songs on No Holdin' Back deserve mention. They are: 1. Singing The Blues-That was Marty Robbins' biggest country hit (#1 for 13 weeks in 1956 and a #17 pop hit as well). Robbins' version was competing with a version by Guy Mitchell. Mitchell was the clear winner in pop, gaining a chart topper there. 2. Somewhere In My Broken Heart-After Travis, Billy Dean recorded the tune and took it to #3 in 1991, becoming his biggest hit. Billboard named Travis its #1 country artist for 1990 when singles chart and albums chart activity were combined. Travis' domination on the charts began to wane during this time thanks to Garth Brooks and his No Fences CD. Lately, Travis has been in the news for a variety of reasons, including his divorce from Lib Hatcher after 19 years of marriage. His health began to deteriorate last year after a heart condition led to a stroke. He is on the slow road to recovery. He also released a CD last year called Influence Vol. 1: The Man I Am which is a covers CD. This is what the chart loked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 7, 1990: 1. HARD ROCK BOTTOM OF YOUR HEART-RANDY TRAVIS-WARNER BROS. 2. Not Counting You-Garth Brooks-Capitol 3. Five Minutes-Lorrie Morgan-RCA 4. Seein' My Father In Me-Paul Overstreet-RCA 5. Here In The Real World-Alan Jackson-Arista 6. Love On Arrival-Dan Seals-Capitol 7. Stranger Things Have Happened-Ronnie Milsap-RCA 8. Just As Long As I Have You-Don Williams-RCA 9. Quittin' Time-Mary Chapin Carpenter-Columbia 10. Chains-Patty Loveless-MCA

^I think it's also worth noting that Randy was the first three-week chart topper in several years. "Forever and Ever Amen" was the first three-week chart topper since Johnny Lee's "Looking for Love" in 1980 (I think; maybe it was 1981). That was the biggest hit from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack.

Does this mean that there will be a 6th single released from Jason Aldean's "Night Train" album? "This Nothin' Town" originally peaked at #41 under unsolicited airplay in 2012.

Wow, given today's MB update, I'm a little surprised that Blake held on for a 2nd week at #1. "Doin' What She Likes" lost 661k today while Randy gained 413k and Jerrod gained 536k...a swing of basically 1 million for both songs closing in on Blake and actually jumping ahead of him on MB. I'll be interested to see what Blake's margin of victory was...I'm guessing it's quite small. Does this mean that there will be a 6th single released from Jason Aldean's "Night Train" album? "This Nothin' Town" originally peaked at #41 under unsolicited airplay in 2012. No, it does not necessarily mean there will be a 6th single. And no, "This Nothin' Town" has never charted on the airplay charts--hence why it is a debut. You are looking at his mongrel chart history in his discography. The week that Night Train was released, a few album cuts charted based on sales, not airplay. "This Nothin' Town" spent 1 week on the Hot Country Songs chart at #41 (from sales). Today marks its debut on the Airplay chart.

Pleasantly surprised to see Drunk on a Plane debut already. Knew it was getting some unsolicited play but figured it would debut next week.

^TNT could still be a single. We just don't know yet. I am thinking not, however, since it seems Jason has already recorded a lot of new songs for his next album.

"This Nothin' Town" is really radio friendly and it should have been a single rather then "1994" or even "The Only Way I Know". In my opinion, they really messed up the singles choices on the album. EDIT Oh and jhomes, what songs do you think recurrent. There are 6 debuts which looks like another housekeeping week. I'm gonna guess the following 6 fell off... "I Hold On" "Everything I Shouldn't be Thinking About" "Closer to Nowhere" "How Could I Want More" "Medicine" "Raise 'Em Up" There's a chance "Raise 'Em Up" stayed on, and Darius fell enough to drop out this week.

"This Nothin' Town" won't be a single released because I found a article that states a new single is coming early Summer!!! LAS VEGAS -- Jason Aldean is finishing work on a new album, he told reporters at the ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 6), shortly after winning his second consecutive trophy for male vocalist. Asked about progress on new music, he told reporters, "Actually, we're about to wrap up a new album -- to go in and put vocals on it this week, as a matter of fact. I think we'll have a new single coming off of it at the end of June, first of July, something like that. And then an album dropping later this fall. We have a new tour that kicks off in May to go along with all of that. It's coming. There will be stuff before the end of the year." In the meantime, Aldean contributed two tracks to Working Man's Poet: A Tribute to Merle Haggard released last week by Broken Bow Records. "I think a lot of people probably will listen to my music and don't realize that I grew up on a lot of traditional country music, stuff like Haggard," Aldean said. "We did a song on there called 'Are the Good Times Really Over.' That's a song that I used to play in the clubs back before I had my record deal or anything. "I love that stuff. I've said this numerous times. I love doing things like that," he added. "It's not necessarily what I want to go out and play for an hour and a-half every night onstage, you know, but I love it. "Any time I get a chance to something like that, it's a lot of fun for me to go back and get out of my comfort zone and do something I haven't done in a while. It's cool to be able to do that every now and then." Source: www.cmt.com/news/country-music/1725600/jason-aldean-expects-a-new-album-this-year.jhtml

MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Doin' What She Likes by Blake Shelton is from his current CD, Based On A True Story. That CD was our top seller just one year ago this week. In 2011, Shelton was preparing a new CD called Red River Blue. Two major events happened in April of that year. They are: 1. First single, Honey Bee was released. 2. Shelton made his debut on The Voice. He has done very well, seeing three of his contestants win in the five seasons the show has been on the air. In June, Honey Bee became Shelton's ninth #1 hit. In July, Red River Blue was released, debuting at #1 on BOTH country and top 200 charts after 116,000 copies were sold in the first week. A remake was the next single and it was God Gave Me You. That was originally done by Christian artist Dave Barnes who took it to #21 adult contemporary in 2010. This time, it was Shelton's tenth #1 country hit that also peaked at #22 pop and #29 A.C.. In the meantime, Shelton won his second consecutive C.M.A. Male Vocalist of the Year Award. Drink On It kicked off Shelton's 2012 on a #1 note. During its chart run, he won his first A.C.M. Male Vocalist of the Year Award. Fourth and final single, Over topped the chart in September, giving Shelton his first CD with a quartet of chart topping hits. The CD has been certified platinum. Shortly after that, Shelton was the big winner at the C.M.A.s winning Entertainer, Male Vocalist, and Song of the Year for Over You (a #1 hit for his wife, Miranda Lambert in 2012). Well, with another successful CD under his belt, Shelton went to work on a follow up. It was called Based On A True Story. First single, Sure Be Cool If You Did was released in January, 2013. It topped the chart in March. The CD was released in March and it debuted at #1 country and #3 top 200 after 199,000 copies were sold. Second single, Boys 'Round Here features back up by Lambert's trio, the Pistol Annies. It too hit #1 and gave him his highest placing on the pop chart at #12. Meanwhile, the A.C.M.s gave him the Song of the Year for Over You. Mine Would Be You hit #1 in November, the same month he won Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for Based On A True Story from the C.M.A.. Doin' What She Likes, the fourth single debuted this past January and is Shelton's eleventh consecutive chart topper and sixteenth overall. The CD has been certified platinum. Shelton just debuted on the chart with a duet with Shakira, another Voice judge with Medicine off her Shakira CD. He just released another single off his CD, My Eyes, another duet with Gwen Sebastian, a contestant on The Voice. If My Eyes hits #1, Shelton will have five chart toppers from his latest CD. He will tie the mark with Rodney Crowell's Diamonds & Dirt CD and select versions of 5th Gear by Brad Paisley. He just hosted the A.C.M. Awards with Luke Bryan. This is what the chart looked like back then:

Pleasantly surprised to see Katie Armiger finally sneak on the chart with "Safe." I really didn't expect that one to ever make it, but I'm glad she keeps continuing to chart even on the lower reaches. Hopefully she'll keep moving up the ranks.

1. NIEMANN'S BACK AT #1: Jerrod Niemann collects the second #1 hit in his career with Drink To That All Night. His first, Lover, Lover became a chart topper in 2010. In the meantime, he scored four top 40 hits. They are: 1. What Do You Want-2011-#4 2. One More Drinkin' Song-2011-#13 3. Shinin' On Me-2012-#17 4. Only God Could Love You More-2013-#29 2. GOING FOR FIVE: Blake Shelton debuts the fifth Based On A True Story single, My Eyes. It is a duet with a former The Voice contestant, Gwen Sebastian. If it hits the top, it will join these other #1 hits: 1. Sure Be Cool If You Did-2013 2. Boys 'Round Here-2013 3. Mine Would Be You-2013 4. Doin' What She Likes-2014 If it hits the top, Shelton will have five chart toppers from one CD. He will join Rodney Crowell with his Diamonds & Dirt CD and select versions of Brad Paisley's 5th Gear CD to contain a quintet of #1 hits. 3. A LYNCH TRIFECTA: For the third week in a row, Dustin Lynch has the fastest climbing song of the week with Where It's At (#43 to #35). 4. THEY BEGIN AT #1: Dan + Shay debut at #1 on the country albums chart this week with Where It All Began after 29,000 copies were sold. They become the first duo to start at the top of the albums chart. 5. A HAGGARD TRIBUTE: A tribute CD to Merle Haggard, Working Man's Poet: A Tribute To Merle Haggard debuts at #17 on the albums chart. Haggard was honored last week at the A.C.M.s with the Crystal Milestone Award. 6. #1 CDS: These were the top selling CDs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Defying Gravity-Keith Urban-Capitol 2004: When The Sun Goes Down-Kenny Chesney-BNA 1999: Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury 1994: Not A Moment Too Soon-Tim McGraw-Curb 1989: Greatest Hits III-Hank Williams, Jr.-Warner Bros. 7. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Believe it or not, it has been five years since George Strait topped the singles chart. Since collecting his first #1 in 1982, that is the longest he has gone between chart toppers. River Of Love rang the bell five years ago this week. Strait celebrated his 29th birthday in May, 1981 by releasing his first single, Unwound. Unwound peaked at #6 in August, becoming the first of 86 top tens he would have. Down And Out, a song he said he would not have released but had no say due to his newcomer status, peaked at #16. Strait kicked off his 1982 on a #3 note, If You're Thinking You Want A Stranger There's One Coming Home. All those songs came from his debut album, Strait Country. Second album, Strait From The Heart started with Fool Hearted Memory. That was released in June and hit #1 in August, becoming the first of 44 chart toppers of his career. That means Strait waited 15 months between his debut to his first #1 hit. 53 weeks would be the longest he would have to wait for another chart topper during the 1980s. His second, A Fire I Can't Put Out rang the bell in September, 1983. That started a streak of five consecutive #1 hits ending with Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind (January, 1985). December, 1985 saw Strait top the chart for the seventh time with The Chair. Between August, 1986 to November, 1989 he managed to have a streak of eleven consecutive chart topping hits from Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her to Ace In The Hole. Shortly before the latter title hit #1, Strait won his first C.M.A. Entertainer of the Year Award. All good things must end. Overnight Success, his fourth Beyond The Blue Neon single hit #8 in 1990. 1990 saw Strait have the biggest hit in his career when Love Without End, Amen hit #1 for five weeks between June and July. He would top the chart three more times until You Know Me Better Than That hit #1 in August, 1991. Then Strait went through his longest dry spell to date when four singles failed to hit the top, including his second that did NOT hit the top ten. Those are: 1. The Chill Of An Early Fall-1991-#3 2. Lovesick Blues-1992-#24 3. Gone As A Girl Can Get-1992-#5 4. So Much Like My Dad-1992-#3 Strait starred in a movie called Pure Country. Lead single, I Cross My Heart hit #1 in December, 1992 ending a sixteen month drought of chart topping hits. He would top the chart two more times when Easy Come, Easy Go hit #1 in October, 1993. December, 1994 would be the next time he topped the chart with The Big One. That's a span of fourteen months. He would not have to wait a year between chart toppers throughout the rest of the 1990s, except for an exact year long wait between the time I Just Want To Dance With You ended its three week reign in June, 1998 to when Write This Down started its four week stay at the top in June, 1999. Between those chart toppers, Strait landed his first #2 hit in True (1998). The 2000s saw Strait hit #1 just nine times. Those hits and the date they became chart toppers are: 1. The Best Day-April, 2000 2. Living And Living Well-June, 2002 3. She'll Leave You With A Smile-December, 2002 4. I Hate Everything-October, 2004 5. She Let Herself Go-January, 2006 6. Give It Away-September, 2006 7. It Just Comes Natural-February, 2007 8. I Saw God Today-May, 2008 9. River Of Love-April, 2009 The longest wait Strait had between chart toppers during the 2000s was between titles #1 and #2 (26 months). It should be noted that he did NOT have any #1s in 2001, the first year Strait went #1-less since his debut year of 1981. Strait's streak of having a #1 hit each year between 1982-2000 is a record. Between titles #5 and #6, Strait was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame. River Of Love came from his 2008 CD, Troubadour. The first single, I Saw God Today became his 43rd #1 hit. Strait won two C.M.A. Awards for Album of the Year for Troubadour and Single of the Year for I Saw God Today. I Saw God Today finished at #2 on BOTH Billboard and the American Country Countdown year-end lists behind Just Got Started Lovin' You by James Otto. The title track was next and it peaked at #7. River Of Love was the third and final single. It was released in November, 2008. It took 22 weeks to hit #1, the slowest climb to the top for Strait. During its chart run, two major events took place: 1. Strait won his first Grammy Award for Troubadour in the Best Country Album category. 2. Strait was named Artist of the Decade by the A.C.M.. Since River Of Love, Strait has continued to do well despite NOT reaching the top. His major hits are: 1. Living For The Night-2009-#2 2. Twang-2010-#14 3. I Gotta Get To You-2010-#3 4. The Breath You Take-2011-#6 5. Here For A Good Time-2011-#2 6. Love's Gonna Make It Alright-2012-#3 7. Give It All We Got Tonight-2013-#2 In 2012, Strait announced a farewell tour called The Cowboy Rides Away, named after his #5 hit of 1985. He has been rewarded with the C.M.A. and A.C.M. Entertainer of the Year Awards. He is currently on the chart with I Got A Car. It needs to go top ten so 2014 can be the 34th consecutive year Strait has managed a top ten hit. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 18, 2009: 1. RIVER OF LOVE-GEORGE STRAIT-MCA 2. Don't Think I Can't Love You-Jake Owen-RCA 3. It Won't Be Like This For Long-Darius Rucker-Capitol 4. Yeah...it would seem we have another case of Billboard forgetting to fact-check.

They also had "Angry All The Time", too. I think that the difference is those two songs were only credited to one artist, not both Tim and Faith. Not sure why they did that though.

I always knew Faith did harmonies on "Angry All The Time" but I never saw anywhere where she got credited on that one. "Like We Never Loved At All", however, was always Faith featuring Tim wherever I saw it, including at Tim's discography on Wikipedia.

Speaking of king George, does anyone know what song prevented 'Go On' from reaching #1 in the fall of 2000? I had no idea that it peaked at #2.

Speaking of king George, does anyone know what song prevented 'Go On' from reaching #1 in the fall of 2000? I had no idea that it peaked at #2. Most likely Aaron Tippin's "Kiss This" or John Michael Montgomery's "The Little Girl", or a combination of the two. Here's a list of Billboard's #1 songs from 2000: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_country_singles_of_2000_(U.S.)

1. STILL DRINKING: Jerrod Niemann has the #1 song in country for the second week with Drink To That All Night. This is his first multi week chart topper, meaning it is his biggest hit. His first #1, Lover, Lover from 2010 ruled for seven days. 2. DOUBLE THE BRYAN: Luke Bryan has two spots in the top ten this week. His duet with Florida Georgia Line, This Is How We Roll is at #5 while he enters the top ten with a solo record, Play It Again at #9. 3. MCGRAW/HILL: The Hot Shot Debut of the week belongs to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill at #41 with Meanwhile Back At Mama's. The last time the couple charted was in 2007 when I Need You peaked at #8. This is Hill's first time charting on the Big Machine label. She has previously charted on her label, Warner Bros. and her husband's former label, Curb. 4. A TIE: We have three songs this week taking eleven point jumps for fastest climbing songs. They are: 1. My Eyes-Blake Shelton and Gwen Sebastian-#39 to #28 2. Sunshine & Whiskey-Frankie Ballard-#53 to #42 3. Drunk On A Plane-Dierks Bentley-#56 to #45 5. AN EVERLASTING #1: Martina McBride lands the fifth #1 CD of her career with Everlasting after 21,000 copies were sold. It is her debut on Kobalt after almost two decades at RCA and a one CD deal at Republic Nashville. Her other top selling CDs are: 1. Greatest Hits-2001 2. Martina-2003 3. Timeless-2005 4. Shine-2009 6. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping hits in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Here Comes Goodbye-Rascal Flatts-Lyric Street 2004: When The Sun Goes Down-Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker-BNA 1999: How Forever Feels-Kenny Chesney-BNA 1994: If The Good Die Young-Tracy Lawrence-Atlantic 1989: The Church On Cumberland Road-Shenandoah-Columbia 7. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Anne Murray and Dave Loggins won the 1985 C.M.A. Award for Duo of the Year for their duet, Nobody Loves Me Like You Do. At the time, Murray was working on a CD that contained her last #1 country hit, Now And Forever You And Me that topped the chart 28 years ago this week. The duet was the lead single of Murray's 1984 CD, Heart Over Mind. It not only reached #1 country, becoming Murray's ninth chart topper, but also reached #10 on the adult contemporary list. Despite being one of the hot songwriters at the time, it was the ONLY hit of Loggins' career (in country, that is). Second single, Time Don't Run Out On Me kicked off Murray's 1985 on a #2 country and #11 A.C. note. I Don't Think I'm Ready For You was used in a Burt Reynolds movie called Stick. It was another crossover hit (#7 country and #30 A.C.). All those songs were produced by Jim Ed Norman. Murray wanted to go in a pop direction so she changed producers to David Foster. He was the one who wrote her next single, Now And Forever You And Me. It was the lead single to her 1986 CD, Something To Talk About. Released in January, 1986 Now And Forever became Murray's tenth #1 country hit (her final chart topper) in April. It also ended her crossover era (1970-1986) by peaking at #92 pop (her last chart appearance there) and #7 A.C.. Her next single bombed at #62 country: Who's Leaving Who, her worst performance since 1977's Sunday School To Broadway (#57). It also peaked at #26 A.C.. My Life's A Dance brought her back to top 40 territory on the country chart (#26). On And On ended the era on a #23 country note in 1987. In 1987, Murray released another CD called Harmony (John Conlee did the same in 1986). Are You Still In Love With Me hit #20 country and #33 A.C. (her last chart appearance there). No doubt about it, Murray's popularity was on the decline during this time. Two more singles were released: Anyone Can Do The Heartbreak (#27 in 1987) and Perfect Strangers with David Mallory (#52 in 1988). As I Am, her 1988 CD yielded a trio of chart singles. They are: 1. Flying On Your Own-1988-#52 2. Slow Passin' Time-1989-#36 3. Who But You-1989-#55 I'll Be Your Eyes, the fourth single did not chart, the first time that happened since 1978's Hey, Daddy. Now And Forever made an appearance on Murray's Greatest Hits Volume II CD in 1989. A duet with Kenny Rogers, If I Ever Fall In Love Again peaked at #28. It was repeated on his Something Inside So Strong CD. A brief resurgence of Murray's career happened in 1990 with the You Will CD. First single Feed This Fire got Murray back into the top ten at #5 and she followed it up with her last top 40 hit in 1991: Bluebird (#39). Two more singles failed to chart and then came her last charting single: Everyday (#56 in 1991). That was off her Yes I Do CD. Her 1994 box set is called Now And Forever. Her last CD was released last year called Icon. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 26, 1986: 1. NOW AND FOREVER YOU AND ME-ANNE MURRAY-CAPITOL 2. Once In A Blue Moon-Earl Thomas Conley-RCA 3. Feelin' The Feelin'-Bellamy Brothers-MCA 4.
