1. YEAH...NICHOLS IS #1: Joe Nichols lands the fifth #1 in his career this week with Yeah. He becomes the 122nd artist to have that many. They are: 1. Brokenheartsville-2003 2. Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off-2005 3. Gimmie That Girl-2010 4. Sunny And 75-2013 5. Yeah-2014 This is the first time he has charted consecutive #1s. He is now two for two as far as being a Red Bow artist is concerned. 2. HILL'S BACK: Faith Hill (as a backup) is back in the top ten after an eight year absence. Her 'duet' with Tim McGraw, Meanwhile Back At Mama's is at #10. She last visited the top ten in 2006 with Sunshine And Summertime (#7). 3. DIRT HIGH: Florida Georgia Line barge their way onto the chart this week at #16 with Dirt. This is the lead single to an upcoming CD. In the meantime, they score one of the five highest debuts ever. The top five are: 1. More Than A Memory-Garth Brooks-2007-#1 2. Feel Like A Rock Star-Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw-2012-#13 3. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together-Taylor Swift-2012-#13 4. Don't Blink-Kenny Chesney-2007-#16 5. Dirt-Florida Georgia Line-2014-#16 4. A TIE: We have four songs this week taking four point jumps for fastest climbers of the week. They are: 1. Yeah-Joe Nichols-#5 to #1 2. Roller Coaster-Luke Bryan-#34 to #30 3. Tattoo-Hunter Hayes-#48 to #44 4. Girl In A Country Song-Maddie & Tae-#58 to #54 5. AN OLD CROW DEBUT: Old Crow Medicine Show debut their latest CD called Remedy at #4 after 17,000 were sold. They received a lot of attention last year as Darius Rucker remade their Wagon Wheel a #1 hit. 6. #1 CDS: These were the top selling CDs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: American Saturday Night-Brad Paisley-Arista 2004: Here For The Party-Gretchen Wilson-Epic 1999: Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury 1994: Not A Moment Too Soon-Tim McGraw-Curb 1989: Sweet Sixteen-Reba McEntire-MCA 7. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Alan Jackson's biggest hit between 1993-2001 was Chattahoochee (displacing Don't Rock The Jukebox). It was our top song 21 years ago this week. Jackson certainly solidified his career with his second CD, 1991's Don't Rock The Jukebox (four times platinum). It yielded five top five hits. They are: 1. Don't Rock The Jukebox-1991-#1-the American Country Countdown's and Billboard's #1 single of the year 2. Someday-1991-#1 3. Dallas-1992-#1 4. Midnight In Montgomery-1992-#3 5. Love's Got A Hold On You-1992-#1 Jackson spent his 1992 preparing his third CD, A Lot About Livin' And A Little 'Bout Love. The first single, She's Got The Rhythm And I Got The Blues was written by Jackson and Randy Travis while they were touring together during the early 1990s. It became his sixth chart topping hit in December. Tonight I Climbed The Wall kicked off Jackson's 1993 on a #4 note. Third single, Chattahoochee (named for the river in Georgia and Alabama that is not too far from Jackson's hometown of Newnan) was released in May and climbed all the way to the top in July for four weeks becoming his biggest hit to date. It became his first crossover hit, peaking at #46 pop. It also became his first gold single. The C.M.A. named Chattahoochee Single and Song of the Year. Mercury Blues was the follow up and it peaked at #2. With that song, Jackson saluted ALL top three U.S. automakers in song (a Dodge truck in Chasin' That Neon Rainbow-1990-#2 and a Chevy in Chattahoochee-of course, Mercury is part of Ford). While Mercury Blues was on the chart, the American Country Countdown and Billboard named Chattahoochee the top single of the year. The era ended on a #4 note in 1994 with Who Says You Can't Have It All. The CD is certified six times platinum. Chattahoochee appears on Jackson's first hits CD, 1995's The Greatest Hits Collection. The version that appears here is called an extended mix (four minutes long-the original being two and a half minutes in length). That CD produced a trio of top five hits: 1. Tall, Tall Trees-1995-#1 2. I'll Try-1996-#1 3. Home-1996-#3-originally on the Here In The Real World CD (1990) Chattahoochee was Jackson biggest hit until January, 2002 when his 9/11 anthem, Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning spent its fifth week at the top. That lasted for about a year and a half as It's Five O'clock Somewhere, his duet with Jimmy Buffett ruled the summer of 2003 for eight weeks. Practically all the songs mentioned here are found on his 2010 CD, 34 Number Ones (later the Essential Alan Jackson). After the chart toppers CD was released, Jackson ended his tenure at Arista at 22 years and signed with the EMI label. Thirty Miles West was released in 2012 and so far, his last three chart appearances are from that CD: 1. Long Way To Go-2011-#24 2. So You Don't Have To Love Me Anymore-2012-#25 3. You GO Your Way-2012-#41 His last CD was released last year called The Bluegrass Album. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 17, 1993: 1. CHATTAHOOCHEE-ALAN JACKSON-ARISTA 2. Money In The Bank-John Anderson-BNA 3. A Bad Goodbye-Clint Black and Wynonna Judd-RCA 4. 1. #1...YEAH: For the second time in his career, Joe Nichols scores a multi week chart topping hit. Yeah manages a second week at #1. His first, Gimmie That Girl ruled for two weeks back in 2010. If Yeah manages a third week at the top, it will be his biggest hit. 2. DIRT & DUST: At #16 for the second week is Florida Georgia Line's Dirt. At #17 is Dust by the Eli Young Band. 3. A TIE: We have a trio of songs this week taking nine point jumps for fastest climbing songs of the week. They are: 1. Roller Coaster-Luke Bryan-#30 to #21-his fourth consecutive week of being the fastest climbing song! 2. God Made Girls-RaeLynn-#53 to #44 3. Girl In A Country Song-Maddie & Tae-#54 to #45 4. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping hits in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: I Run To You-Lady Antebellum-Capitol 2004: Live Like You Were Dying-Tim McGraw-Curb 1999: Amazed-Lonestar-BNA 1994: Summertime Blues-Alan Jackson-Arista 1989: Cathy's Clown-Reba McEntire-MCA 5. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: We saluted the 6'4" Alan Jackson last week. This week, it is the 6'6" Trace Adkins. His first chart topping CD, Greatest Hits Collection, Volume 1 was our top seller eleven years ago this week. Adkins signed to Capitol Records in 1996. By the time 2003 rolled around, he certainly had enough hits for a greatest hits CD (13 top 40s, 7 top tens, and one #1 hit). The CD culled hits from four CDs: 1996's Dreamin' Out Loud, 1997's Big Time, 1999's More, and 2001's Chrome. The track listing is as follows: 1. Then They Do-2003-#9 2. This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing-1997-#1 3. The Rest Of Mine-1997-#4 4. Chrome-2003-#10 5. I'm Tryin'-2001-#6 6. There's A Girl In Texas-1996-#20 7. Every Light In The House-1996-#3 8. Don't Lie-2000-#27 9. I Left Something Turned On At Home-1997-#2 10. Big Time-1998-#27 11. Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone-1998-#11 12. Help Me Understand-2002-#17 13. More-2000-#10 14. Welcome To Hell Then They Do and Welcome To Hell were the new songs on the CD. The former was released as a single in March, 2003. It hit #9, becoming Adkins' eighth top ten hit. He released his fifth studio CD that year called Comin' On Strong. Only two singles were released: Hot Mama (2004-#5) and Rough & Ready (2004-#13-his first gold single). The Songs About Me CD from 2005 is his best selling CD at over two million sold. Its hits were: Songs About Me (2005-#2), Arlington (2005-#16), and Honky Tonk Badonkadonk (2006-#2). The third single is his best known hit. 2006's Dangerous Man gave us Swing (#20 in 2006) and a chart topper in 2007, Ladies Love Country Boys. It was time for another hits CD, this one called American Man: Greatest Hits Volume II. Two new songs became hits: 1. I Got My Game On-2007-#34 2. You're Gonna Miss This-2008-#1-chart wise, his biggest hit-his biggest hit on the pop chart at #12 It should be noted that during the chart run of You're Gonna Miss This that Adkins was a contestant on Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentice show. He finished second to Piers Morgan. After the successes of the greatest hits CD and TV show, Adkins released his final studio CD for Capitol called X. Three singles were released: Muddy Water (2008-#22), Marry For Money (2009-#14), and All I Ask For Anymore (2009-#14). Another song,'Til The Last Shot's Fired made a chart appearance, peaking at #50. That served as the title of an extensive anthology that was released in 2010. Adkins decided to do a duet with Blake Shelton called Hillbilly Bone. That hit the top of the chart in March, 2010. While that song was charting, Adkins after fourteen years at Capitol signed to the Show Dog/Universal label. His debut CD for them, Cowboy's Back In Town started with a bang by debuting at #1 on the country albums chart, but the singles did not do so well. They are: 1. Ala-Freakin-Bama-2010-#49 2. This Ain't No Love Song-2010-#15 3. Brown Chicken Brown Cow-2011-#39 His second CD for them, Proud To Be Here saw a brief resurgence for Adkins as Just Fishin' became his last top ten so far at #6 (2011). Million Dollar View is so far his last top 40 hit (#38 in 2011). Them Lips On Mine peaked at #52 in 2012. Love Will, released in 2013 has produced his last chart appearance, a duet with Colbie Caillat called Watch The World End (#57 in 2013). 2013 saw Adkins release another hits CD called Icon and a Christmas CD called The King's Gift on the Caliburn label (his last CD). This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING JULY 26, 2003: 1. GREATEST HITS COLLECTION, VOLUME 1-TRACE ADKINS-CAPITOL 2. From There To Here: Greatest Hits-Lonestar-BNA 3. Unleashed-Toby Keith-DreamWorks 4. 9. I Left Something Turned On At Home-1997-#2 This song title caught my eye. Does this mean what I think it means? And by the way, thank you for the very informative posts each week.

1. NICHOLS' BIGGEST: Joe Nichols rules for a third week with Yeah. It is his biggest hit to date. He has now spent eight weeks at the top with his five chart topping hits. The songs and weeks at #1 are: 1. Brokenheartsville-2003-1 2. Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off-2005-1 3. Gimmie That Girl-2010-2 4. Sunny And 75-2013-1 5. Yeah-2014-3 so far 2. LYNCH IS BACK: Dustin Lynch collects his second top ten with Where It's At Yep, Yep at #10. This ends a near two year drought as his first, Cowboys And Angels reached #2 in late 2012. He followed that with (both in 2013): She Cranks My Tractor (#16) and Wild In Your Smile (#23). 3. DOWN IS HIGH: Jason Aldean scores the second highest debut this year at #19 with Burnin' It Down. This is the lead single to his upcoming CD. The only single to debut higher this year was Dirt by Florida Georgia Line (#16-now at #13). 4. GOD IS FAST: RaeLynn has the fastest climbing song of the week as God Made Girls skips seven to #37. 5. A 50S LOOK: These were the chart topping hits during the last week of July during the 1950s: 1950: Why Don't You Love Me-Hank Williams-MGM 1951: I Wanna Play House With You-Eddy Arnold-RCA 1952: The Wild Side Of Life-Hank Thompson-Capitol 1953: It's Been So Long-Webb Pierce-Decca 1954: I Don't Hurt Anymore-Hank Snow-RCA 1955: I Don't Care-Webb Pierce-Decca 1956: Crazy Arms-Ray Price-Columbia 1957: Bye Bye Love-Everly Brothers-Cadence 1958: Guess Things Happen That Way-Johnny Cash-Sun 1959: Waterloo-Stonewall Jackson-Columbia 6. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: A record in country music was broken 29 years ago this week. It was when Alabama broke Sonny James' record of having the most consecutive chart topping hits. Alabama passed James with their 17th consecutive #1 hit, Forty Hour Week For A Livin'. Let us go back to 1963 when Buck Owens (the #1 country artist of the 1960s according to Joel Whitburn) landed his biggest hit, Love's Gonna Live Here. That kicked off a string of fourteen consecutive chart topping hits. That list includes: 1. My Heart Skips A Beat-1964 2. Together Again-1964 3. I Don't Care Just As Long As You Love Me-1964 4. I've Got A Tiger By The Tail-1965 5. Before You Go-1965 6. Only You Can Break My Heart-1965 7. Buckaroo-1965 8. Waitin' In Your Welfare Line-1966 9. Think Of Me-1966 10. Open Up Your Heart-1966 11. Where Do The Good Times Go-1967 12. Sam's Place-1967 13. Your Tender Loving Care-1967 That string ended when It Takes People Like You To Make People Like Me hit #2 in 1968. Owens' labelamte, Sonny James started his streak in 1967 with Need You. He broke Owens' streak by adding another fifteen in a row up until 1971. Those chart toppers were: 1. I'll Never Find Another You-1967 2. It's The Little Things-1967 3. A World Of Our Own-1968 4. Heaven Says Hello-1968 5. Born To Be With You-1968 6. Only The Lonely-1969 7. Running Bear-1969 8. Since I Met You, Baby-1969 9. It's Just A Matter Of Time-1970 10. My Love-1970 11. Don't Keep Me Hangin' On-1970 12. Endlessly-1970 13. Empty Arms-1971 14. Bright Lights, Big City-1971 15. Here Comes Honey Again-1971 James' streak (the longest by a male artist) was broken by a #2 hit in 1972 called Only Love Can Break A Heart (a #2 pop hit for Gene Pitney in 1962). James' record stood for fourteen years. Along comes Alabama. They signed to the RCA label in 1980. Their first fifteen singles all topped the chart between 1980-1985. They are: 1. Tennessee River-1980 2. Why Lady Why-1980 3. Old Flame-1981 4. Feels So Right-1981 5. Love In The First Degree-1981 6. Mountain Music-1982 7. Take Me Down-1982 8. Close Enough To Perfect-1982 9. Dixieland Delight-1983 10. The Closer You Get-1983 11. Lady Down On Love-1983 12. Roll On Eighteen Wheeler-1984 13. When We Make Love-1984 14. If You're Gonna Play In Texas You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band-1984 15. There's A Fire In The Night-1985 They released a CD in 1985 called 40 Hour Week. The first single, There's No Way became their 16th consecutive #1, tying James' mark. The second single, Forty Hour Week For A Livin', their tribute to all working people, was released in May and found its way to the top in August, breaking James' record. Third and final single, Can't Keep A Good Man Down became their 18th consecutive #1 hit. The CD contains their version of I Want To Know You Before We Make Love which became a #2 hit for Conway Twitty in 1987. Forty Hour Week For A Livin' made its way to their next CD, their first greatest hits package in 1986. A new song, She And I continued their chart topping streak. Their next CD, The Touch produced #1s in Touch Me When We're Dancing (1986) and You've Got The Touch (1987). Between those, they charted a duet with Lionel Richie called Deep River Woman (#10 in 1987-off his Dancing On The Ceiling CD). Because that was a Richie release, it did NOT affect Alabama's chart topping streak. However, all good things must end. Alabama released a CD in 1987 called Just Us. The first single, the autobiographical Tar Top peaked at #7, breaking their #1s streak at 21 (the longest in country music history). They continued to top the chart eleven more times between 1988-1993. Those chart toppers are: 1. Face To Face-1988 2. Fallin' Again-1988 3. Song Of The South-1989 4. If I Had You-1989-Alabama named Artist of the Decade by the A.C.M. during this time 5. High Cotton-1989 6. Southern Star-1990 7. Jukebox In My Mind-1990-chart wise, their biggest hit 8. Forever's As Far As I'll Go-1991 9. Down Home-1991 10. I'm In A Hurry And Don't Know Why-1992 11. Reckless-1993 They continued having major hits until 2001 when When It All Goes South peaked at #15. A farewell tour was announced in 2002. Alabama was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Six years later, Brad Paisley wrote a tune called Old Alabama that incorporated lyrics and melody of Mountain Music. He invited Alabama to play and sing on the record. It became Alabama's 33rd chart topping hit and last chart appearance so far. The current chart topping streak belongs to Blake Shelton. He has topped the chart twelve consecutive times. They are: 1. Hillbilly Bone-with Trace Adkins-2010 2. All About Tonight-2010 3. Who Are You When I'm Not Looking-2011 4. Honey Bee-2011 5. God Gave Me You-2011 6. Drink On It-2012 7. Over-2012 8. Sure Be Cool If You Did-2013 9. Boys 'Round Here-2013 10. Mine Would Be You-2013 11. Doin' What She Likes-2014 12. My Eyes-2014 Will Shelton either tie or break Alabama's record? Stay tuned! This is what the chart looked like back then:

Country Airplay *** No. 1 (1 week) *** "We Are Tonight" Billy Currington Billy Currington nabs his eighth No. 1 on Country Airplay as "We Are Tonight" steps 2-1 in its 37th chart week. That's a notably leisurely stroll to the top of the chart, as only 10 songs have had slower climbs to No. 1. The longest ride to No. 1 was tallied by Chris Young's "Voices," which hit No. 1 in its 51st chart week (Feb. 19, 2011). 1. WE ARE #1: Billy Currington lands his eighth #1 hit this week with We Are Tonight. It is the second single and title track to his current CD which has already produced a chart topper in Hey Girl (2013's top country airplay song). His current CD started out like his last, Enjoy Yourself with two #1 hits. That CD produced Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer (2010) and Let Me Down Easy (2011). 2. TWO FOR TWO: Cole Swindell lands at #10 this week with Hope You Get Lonely Tonight. It is his second single and second top ten following the #2 peaking Chillin' It. 3. TOGETHER AGAIN: The collaborated on a #2 duet called This Is How We Roll. They are neighbors this week as Florida Georgia Line is at #11 with Dirt while Roller Coaster by Luke Bryan is at #12. 4. M & T FAST: Maddie & Tae have the fastest climbing song of the week as Girl In A Country Song zips twelve to #31. 5. THE FIFTH IS FIRST: Thomas Rhett debuts his fifth It Goes Like This single, Makes Me Wanna at #51. It is the first time Valory has gone five deep on a CD. It follows: 1. Something To Do With My Hands-2012-#15 2. Beer With Jesus-2013-#19 3. It Goes Like This-2013-#1 4. Get Me Some Of That-2014-#1 6. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping songs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: People Are Crazy-Billy Currington-Mercury 2004: Somebody-Reba McEntire-MCA 1999: Amazed-Lonestar-BNA 1994: Summertime Blues-Alan Jackson-Arista 1989: Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That-Dolly Parton-Columbia 7. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: The Outlaw Era in country music was first (1976-1980). Then came the Urban Cowboy Era (1980-1984). That was replaced by the New Traditionalist Era (1984-1989). From that final era in country music came one of the most important albums of all time. It was Storms Of Life by Randy Travis, our top seller 28 years ago this week. Actually, Storms Of Life was Travis' major label debut. He released an album back in 1978 called Randy Traywick (his real name) on Paula Records. His first charted single came from that album called She's My Woman (#91). He also released a live album in 1982 called Randy Ray Live At The Nashville Palace. The track listing for that album is: 1. Ain't No Use 2. If It Was Love That Kept You Home 3. Free Rider 4. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet 5. One Last Time 6. Reasons I Cheat 7. Call Somebody Who Gives A Damn 8. I Told You So 9. Promises 10. Send My Body Home On A Freight Train 11. Future Mister Me 12. Good Intentions 13. I'll Take Any Willing Woman 14. She's My Woman 15. Dreamin' 16. All The Praises Between the time the album was released until 1985, Travis was turned down by every label in Nashville. Martha Sharp from Warner Bros. saw Travis perform at the Palace in February, 1985 and signed him to the label with help from his future producers, Kyle Lehning and Keith Stegall. It was during this time the Travis surname was first used. Four songs were cut at the first session: On The Other Hand, 1982, Diggin' Up Bones, and Prairie Rose. The latter song was used for the soundtrack to the Rustler's Rhapsody movie. On The Other Hand was released during the summer of 1985 (b-side was Reasons I Cheat). It peaked at #67 during the fall. Keith Whitley recorded a version of the song for his L.A. To Miami CD. 1982 (originally title 1962) was released in December and climbed all the way to #6 in April, 1986. During the chart run of 1982, the A.C.M. named Travis the Top New Male Vocalist. In May, two pivotal events took place: 1. Travis quit the Nashville Palace as its cook and singer. 2. Travis recorded his debut CD for Warners called Storms Of Life. The track listing for the CD is: 1. On The Other Hand 2. The Storms Of Life 3. My Heart Cracked But It Did Not Break 4. Diggin' Up Bones 5. No Place Like Home 6. 1982 7. Send My Body 8. Messin' With My Mind 9. Reasons I Cheat 10. There'll Always Be A Honky Tonk Somewhere Warner Bros. DID receive positive praise for On The Other Hand, so they decided to re-release it. This time, it re-entered the chart at #64 and it climbed to #1 for the week ending July 26. In the meantime, Storms Of Life was released in June and it climbed to #1 for the week ending August 9. It stayed at the top for four weeks and six weeks later, began its second four week reign. Diggin' Up Bones became his second chart topping hit in November. In the interim, the C.M.A. gave Travis the Horizon Award. During this time, Storms Of Life was certified gold. Travis joined the Grand Ole Opry in December. The final single, No Place Like Home was released just before 1986 ended. No Place Like Home peaked at #2 in March, 1987. During which, Storms Of Life was certified platinum (now at the triple platinum level). The A.C.M. awarded Travis Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, and Single for On The Other Hand. The Storms Of Life CD stayed on the country albums chart for almost five years. Travis released Always & Forever in 1987. Four chart toppers were produced: 1. Forever And Ever, Amen-1987-the American Country Countdown's top single of the year 2. I Won't Need You Anymore Always And Forever-1987 3. Too Gone Too Long-1988 4. I Told You So-1988 Good Intentions makes an appearance on this CD (from the live album from 1982). Travis ended up staying at Warner Bros. until 1997. He spent three years at DreamWorks and came back to Warners in 2000. His last chart appearance was back in 2009 with his duet with Carrie Underwood called I Told You So (#2). He is set to release a CD called Influence Vol. 2: The Man I Am. This is what the chart looked like back then:

1. I DO #1: Lee Brice lands his fourth #1 hit this week with I Don't Dance. It is the title track of his upcoming CD. His previous CD, Hard 2 Love produced his first three chart topping hits. They are: 1. A Woman Like You-2012 2. Hard To Love-2012 3. I Drive Your Truck-2013 2. A TIE: We have two songs taking seven point jumps for fastest climbing songs of the week. They are: 1. Take It On Back-Chase Bryant-#50-#43 2. Makes Me Wanna-Thomas Rhett-#51 -#44 3. STAY!: Songs #10-#17 enjoy a second week in those positions. They are: 10. Hope You Get Lonely Tonight-Cole Swindell 11. Dirt-Florida Georgia Line 12. Roller Coaster-Luke Bryan 13. Song About A Girl-Eric Paslay 14. Small Town Throwdown-Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, and Thomas Rhett 15. Ready Set Roll-Chase Rice 16. Later On-the Swon Brothers 17. Somethin' Bad-Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood 4. #1 CDS: These were the top selling CDs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Fearless-Taylor Swift-Big Machine 2004: License To Chill-Jimmy Buffett-Mailboat 1999: Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury 1994: Not A Moment Too Soon-Tim McGraw-Curb 1989: Sweet Sixteen-Reba McEntire-MCA 5. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: I had saluted Anne Murray's Now And Forever You And Me earlier this year. What's so special about that? Well, I love Murray and the song and two, Murray became the first artist of 1986 to land their last chart topping hit. Fast forward a few months and FOUR artists collected their final #1s back to back to back to back (that's a lot of backs!). They are: 1. John Schneider-You're The Last Thing I Needed Tonight 2. T.G. Sheppard-Strong Heart 3. Don Williams-Heartbeat In The Darkness 4. Conway Twitty-Desperado Love Let us take a look at those artists and songs: 1. Schneider-His music career started two years after he started his acting career with The Dukes Of Hazzard playing Bo Duke. His breakthrough hit, a cover of the Elvis Presley hit, It's Now Or Never was a huge crossover smash in 1981 (#4 country, #14 pop, and #5 adult contemporary). His other notable hits for Scotti Brothers, his first label were Them Good Ol' Boys Are Bad (1981-#13) and Dreamin' (1982-#32). Three more singles charted and Schneider switched labels to MCA in 1983. His first two singles for them (off the Too Good To Stop Now CD) reached #1: I've Been Around Enough To Know (1984) and Country Girls (1985). His second MCA CD, Tryin' To Outrun The Wind produced two #10 hits in 1985: It's A Short Walk From Heaven To Hell and I'm Gonna Leave You Tomorrow. It should be noted that The Dukes Of Hazzard ended its six year run during this time. His ONLY #1 CD, A Memory Like You produced his third chart topper in 1986: What's A Memory Like You Doing In A Love Like This. You're The Last Thing I Needed Tonight was released in May and became his fourth and final chart topper in August. His 1986 CD, Take The Long Way Home yielded At The Sound Of The Tone (#5 in 1986) and the title track (#10 in 1987). His last CD for MCA, You Ain't Seen The Last Of Me produced three chart singles (all 1987): Love, You Ain't Seen The Last Of Me (#6), When The Right One Comes Along (#32), and his final chart appearance, If It Was Anyone But You (#59). A greatest hits CD in 1987 ended his four year association with the label. He returned to acting and he is probably known for playing Clark Kent's father in Smallville. His last CD was released in 2010 called The Promise. 2. Sheppard-After a hit-filled career at Warner Bros. (1977-1985), Sheppard continued at Columbia Records (1985-1989). He started at his new label with the Livin' On The Edge CD which produced three top 40 hits: Fooled Around And Fell In Love (1985-#21), Doncha? (1985-#8), and In Over My Heart (1986-#9). His second Columbia CD, It Still Rains In Memphis started with Strong Heart. That was released in May and became his 14th and final chart topping hit in August. The CD produced two #2 hits (both 1987): Half Past Forever Till I'm Blue In The Heart and You're My First Lady. Only one single was released from his 1ne 4 the $ (One For The Money) CD and that was the title track (#2 in 1987). His last Columbia CD, Crossroads yielded Don't Say It With Diamonds (#48 in 1988) and You Still Do (#14 in 1989). Two years later, he charted for the final time with Born In A High Wind (#63). His final CD was released in 2007 called Partners In Rhyme. 3. Williams-Like Sheppard, Williams had a lengthy hit list on a prior label before joining another that produced his final chart topping hit. Williams was at ABC/Dot (later MCA) between 1974-1985. He signed to Capitol Records in 1985 and his first single for them, the very sparse sounding We've Got A Good Fire Goin' (off the New Moves CD) hit #3 in 1986. Heartbeat In The Darkness was released in June and became his 17th and final #1 in August. Three more hits were produced from the CD (all 1987): Then It's Love (#3), Senorita (#9), and I'll Never Be In Love Again (#4). He underwent back surgery in 1987 (he considered retiring from the music business during this time) and could not promote his second Capitol CD, Traces. However, four top tens came from that CD: 1. I Wouldn't Be A Man-1988-#9 2. Another Place, Another Time-1988-#5 3. Desperately-1988-#7 4. Old Coyote Town-1989-#5 Another switch of labels, this one to RCA produced the following hits: 1. One Good Well-1989-#4 2. I've Been Loved By The Best-1989-#4 3. Just As Long As I Have You-1990-#4 4. Maybe That's All It Takes-1990-#22 5. Back In My Younger Days-1990-#2 6. True Love-1991-#4 7. Lord Have Mercy On A Country Boy-1991-#7 His 1992 CD, Currents was his last for RCA and produced his final chart appearances: It's Who You Love-#73 and Too Much Love-#72 (both 1992). He was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010. His current CD is called Reflections. 4. Twitty-He ended his Warner Era (1982-1987) on a winning note with his 1986 CD, Fallin' For You For Years. Lead single, Desperado Love was released in June and climbed all the way to the top becoming his 40th and final chart topping hit (during his 53rd birthday in September). Since 1980's I'd Love To Lay You Down, Twitty had the most #1s in country music until George Strait broke the record in 2006 with Give It Away. Twitty followed his last #1 with the #2 title track in early 1987. He went back to MCA during this time (joining Strait) and continued to be a hit making machine until 1991 with these hits: 1. Julia-1987-#2 2. I Want To Know You Before We Make Love-1987-#2 3. That's My Job-1988-#6 4. Goodbye Time-1988-#7 5. Saturday Night Special-1988-#9 6. I Wish I Was Still In Your Dreams-1989-#4 7. She's Got A Single Thing In Mind-1989-#2 8. House On Old Lonesome Road-1989-#19 9. Fit To Be Tied Down-1990-#30 10. Crazy In Love-1990-#2 11. I Couldn't See You Leavin'-1991-#3 12. She's Got A Man On Her Mind-1991-#22 Twitty died from an abdominal aneurysm in June, 1993 (on his way to Fan Fair). A CD was released called Final Touches. His last charted single came from that CD called I'm The Only Thing I'll Hold Against You (#62). He was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. Five years later, Anita Cochran created a 'duet' with Twitty called I Wanna Hear A Cheatin' Song (she took his vocals from various songs to create it). It peaked at #57 in 2004. His last CD was released in 2011 called Icon. Well, after Schneider, Sheppard, Williams, and Twitty collected their final #1s, the streak was snapped by Reba McEntire. Her Little Rock was NOT her final chart topping hit. She managed another one before 1986 ended. It was her vocal collaboration with Hank Williams, Jr., Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and Reverend Ike on Mind Your Own Business (off of Williams' Montana Café CD). She topped the charts eighteen more times between 1987's What Am I Gonna Do About You to 2011's Turn On The Radio. She was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Her last chart appearance was last year's Silent Night with Kelly Clarkson (her daughter-in-law) and Trisha Yearwood (#51). Her current CD is a greatest hits package called Icon. This is what the chart looked like back then: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 16, 1986: 1. YOU'RE THE LAST THING I NEEDED TONIGHT-JOHN SCHNEIDER-MCA 2. STRONG HEART-T.G. SHEPPARD-COLUMBIA 3. 1. BENTLEY'S #1 PLANE: Dierks Bentley collects his 12th #1 hit this week with Drunk On A Plane. It is the second chart topping hit from his current CD, Riser. It follows I Hold On from this year. 2. TAKE IT FAST: Chase Bryant has the fastest climbing song of the week as Take It On Back climbs fourteen to #29. 3. A HOMEGROWN DEBUT: Darius Rucker has the Hot Shot Debut of the week at #55 with Homegrown Honey. It is the lead single to an upcoming CD. His last CD, True Believers yielded four chart singles. They are: 1. True Believers-2012-#17 2. Wagon Wheel-2013-#1 3. Radio-2013-#4 4. Miss You-2014-#48 4. A JONES TRIBUTE: Over on the country albums chart at #23 is a tribute CD to George Jones by Shooter Jennings called Don't Wait Up For George. Jennings could release one for each of his parents, Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. 5. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping hits in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: You Belong With Me-Taylor Swift-Big Machine 2004: Live Like You Were Dying-Tim McGraw-Curb 1999: Amazed-Lonestar-BNA 1994: Dreaming With My Eyes Open-Clay Walker-Giant 1989: Are You Ever Gonna Love Me-Holly Dunn-Warner Bros. 6. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Professionally, she went by only one name. She scored only two chart topping hits. Those were one word titles as well. The second became a classic and her biggest hit. Who is she? Why, it's Sylvia and the song that topped the chart 32 years ago this week was Nobody. Personally, Sylvia was born in December, 1956 as Sylvia Kirby (later on, she would use Rutledge and Hutton as surnames). Two decades later, she found herself in Nashville working as a secretary. Tom Collins (her future producer) hired her. From there, she became a demo singer and did back up for Janie Frickie, herself a demo and back up singer who had just signed to Columbia Records. Her first stab at being a recording artist was trying out for Dave & Sugar (she demoed Golden Tears for them which became their biggest hit in 1979). She did not get the job, but Jerry Bradley, RCA Nashville chief was impressed enough and asked if she had experience. She said no and told him she was a quick study. He signed her in 1979. They put out a single to test the waters. It was You Don't Miss A Thing. It peaked at #36 and shortly after that, she started opening for Charley Pride (her labelmate). They released another single during the spring of 1980 called It Don't Hurt To Dream (love the grammar there!). It became her second top 40 hit at #35. They finally hit paydirt with the third release called Tumbleweed. It became the first of eleven top tens when it hit #10 in late 1980. With the success of Tumbleweed, RCA, Sylvia, and Collins went to work on an album. Drifter was released in December and it climbed all the way to #1 in April, 1981. That was a cross between Western and disco called 'prairie music'. That was the title track of her debut album which contained two other hits (both 1981): The Matador (#7) and Heart On The Mend (#8). Well, going from a Western/disco direction of her first album to a pop direction for her second seemed natural to Sylvia. That was evident with the Just Sylvia album of 1982. The first single, the country flavored Sweet Yesterday just missed the top ten at #12. Her next chart appearance came from a James Galway album called The Wayward Wind, the title track, a remake of the Gogi Grant hit of 1956 (#1) reached #57. Nobody was the second single. When Sylvia first heard it, she learned it instantly. They cut the song three times and used the third take as the definitive version. Superb back up was provided by The Cherry Sisters. The song was released in May and went all the way to the top in August becoming her second and final chart topping hit. It also crossed over to the pop chart (#15) and adult contemporary (#5). It also became her only gold selling single. A follow up did nearly as well on the country chart. It was Like Nothing Ever Happened. It hit #2 for two weeks in early 1983. Shortly after that record peaked, she received the Female Vocalist of the Year Award from the A.C.M. (the ONLY award she got from them while being shut out of the C.M.A.s). The Just Sylvia album is her only gold selling album. She continued in the pop direction of her 1983 album, Snapshot. The title track hit #5 and Sylvia admitted at the time it sounded too much like Nobody. The Boy Gets Around (she says that should NEVER been a single) peaked at #18. A more country sounding single, I Never Quite Got Back From Loving You started her 1984 on a #3 note. Sylvia's popularity took a brief dip throughout the rest of 1984 as her fourth album Surprise yielded Victims Of Goodbye (#24 country and #44 A.C.) and Love Over Old Times (#36 country). She got back to hitmaking form with the One Step Closer album of 1985. She almost topped the chart with the first release, Fallin' In Love (#2). Cry Just A Little Bit became her last solo top ten at #9 and a duet with Michael Johnson (he signed to RCA in 1985), I Love You By Heart hit #9 in early 1986. 1986 was a transitional year for Sylvia. RCA released Nothin' Ventured Nothin' Gained from an album called Knockin' Around. It peaked at #33 and RCA decided NOT to release the album. Sylvia was crushed. Instead, RCA did release a greatest hits CD in 1987. It yielded her last chart appearance in Straight From My Heart (#66). Never My Love, the other new song on the CD was not released. RCA dropped Sylvia in 1987 after eight years at the label (their main focus at the time was promoting newer artists like the Judds, Restless Heart, Vince Gill, Keith Whitley, and Sylvia's duet partner, Johnson). It was her intention to take a brief hiatus from the music business and concentrate on writing songs. While she was successful in writing songs, the break from music nearly lasted a decade. Her first CD under her Red Pony label was released in 1996 called The Real Story. Her next CD was released by Renaissance Records in 1997 called Anthology, the most complete Sylvia hits package out there. The last song on the CD, Turn My Heart Away (from the unreleased Knockin' Around CD) encourages people to check out The Real Story. Another CD was released in 2001 called Where In The World and then her last two CDs were released in 2002: RCA Country Legends and A Cradle In Bethlehem. It's too bad Sylvia will always be regarded as a 1980s artist. She certainly had the talent and look to have had success beyond 1986. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING AUGUST 21, 1982: 1. NOBODY-SYLVIA-RCA 2. I'm Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home-David Frizzell-Warner Bros. 3. Fool Hearted Memory-George Strait-MCA 4. Ain't No Money-Rosanne Cash-Columbia 5. I'm Not That Lonely Yet-Reba McEntire-Mercury 6. Women Do Know How To Carry On-Waylon Jennings-RCA 7. Love Will Turn You Around-Kenny Rogers-Liberty 8. She's Not Really Cheatin' She's Just Gettin' Even-Moe Bandy-Columbia 9. Heavenly Bodies-Earl Thomas Conley-RCA 10. Born To Run-Emmylou Harris-Warner Bros.

1. BENTLEY STILL FLYING: Dierks Bentley holds on to the top position in country this week with Drunk On A Plane. This is his second week at the top and first multi week #1 since Sideways ruled for two weeks in 2009. If Drunk On A Plane rules for a third week, it will tie Come A Little Closer from 2005 as his longest reigning #1 hit. 2. HIS 33RD: Rising two to #2 is Tim McGraw's Meanwhile Back At Mama's. This is his 33rd top two hit (25 #1s and 8 #2s). If it manages to top the chart, McGraw will gain entry to the top ten of those artists with the most chart topping hits. 3. ANOTHER #2 START: River Bank by Brad Paisley takes a five point tumble to #7 this week. It is his eighth #2 hit and lead single from his upcoming CD, Moonshine In The Trunk. That CD is his third in a row to start with a runner up hit. His previous CD, Wheelhouse started with the #2 Southern Comfort Zone in 2013 and the one before that, This Is Country Music started with the #2 title track in 2011. His last CD to start on a #1 was American Saturday Night with Then (2009). 4. HIGHEST AND SECOND HIGHEST: Blake Shelton blasts his way on the chart with Neon Light at #18. It is the lead single from his upcoming Bringing Back The Sunshine CD. It is his highest debut ever. It is this year's second highest debut following Dirt by Florida Georgia Line (#16). 5. FAST AND LONELY: Chris Young has the fastest climbing song of the week with Lonely Eyes. It takes a ten point jump to #48. 6. WAIT A MINUTE: I thought Taylor Swift was going in a pop direction with her upcoming CD, T.S. 1989. However, lead single Shake It Off debuts at #58. 7. A 40S LOOK: These were the chart topping hits during the last week of August during the 1940s: 1944: Soldier's Last Letter-Ernest Tubb-Decca 1945: You Two-Timed Me One Time Too Many-Tex Ritter-Capitol 1946: New Spanish Two Step-Bob Wills-Columbia 1947: Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! That Cigarette-Tex Williams-Capitol 1948: Bouquet Of Roses-Eddy Arnold-RCA 1949: Lovesick Blues-Hank Williams-MGM 8. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Hank Williams, Jr. was certainly on a roll during the 1980s. He was a consistent hitmaker, top concert draw, and record seller. One of his CDs, Born To Boogie was our top seller 27 years ago this week. The Born To Boogie CD was the second that Jim Ed Norman and Barry Beckett produced for Bocephus (along with Bocephus). Jimmy Bowen produced eleven albums for Hank. They are: 1. Family Tradition-1979 2. Whiskey Bent And Hell Bound-1979 3. Habits Old And New-1980 4. Rowdy-1981 5. The Pressure Is On-1981 6. The New South-1981 7. High Notes-1982 8. Strong Stuff-1983 9. Man Of Steel-1983 10. Major Moves-1984 11. Five-O-1985 While title #10 was on the charts, Bowen jumped ship from being the head of Warner Bros. to being the head of MCA Records. He was replaced by Norman/Beckett for the 1986 CD, Montana Café. The gold selling CD was a success with a trio of top 40 hits. They are: 1. Country State Of Mind-1986-#2 2. Mind Your Own Business-with Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Reverend Ike, and Tom Petty-1986-#1 3. When Something Is Good Why Does It Change-1987-#31 While charting with title #3, he released a live CD called Hank Live. Bocephus went to work on a follow up CD, Born To Boogie. The track listing is as follows: 1. Born To Boogie 2. Honky Tonk Women 3. Young Country 4. Keep Your Hands To Yourself 5. Buck Naked 6. Heaven Can't Be Found 7. Thanks A Lot 8. What It Boils Down To 9. Shadow Face 10. Practice What I Preach Recording the title track proved to be difficult at best. It was the first time Hank worked with a drum machine in the studio. His producers said the studio musicians were NOT playing the song wrong, but it was a hard shuffle that was difficult to get to. Considering the fast pace of the song, it was getting pretty exhausting to do it over and over again. It took over six hours to get the song down. Tempers started to flare and everyone involved with the recording said they would get it down with the next take, do or die. A defiant attitude took over and they ended up nailing the song. The single was released in May, 1987 while the CD was released in July. BOTH peaked at #1 during the same week in August giving Bocephus a clean sweep of the charts. It became his tenth and final chart topping hit (definitely the most rocking chart topper to date) while the CD became his sixth consecutive chart topping CD (starting with Major Moves). For the second release, Hank went into a 180 and chose the stone cold country Heaven Can't Be Found. It proceeded to a #4 peak in early 1988. During its chart run, he won the first of two C.M.A. Entertainer of the Year Awards. He had already won the Entertainer Award from the A.C.M. in 1987 (with wins in 1988 and 1989 as well). Third and final single, Young Country peaked at #2. A slew of country stars provided vocals on that one: Butch Baker, T. Graham Brown, Steve Earle, Highway 101, Dana McVicker, Marty Stuart, and Keith Whitley. Born To Boogie is certified platinum. Three other songs off Born To Boogie are worth mentioning. They are: 1. Honky Tonk Women-This was the remake of the Rolling Stones hit of 1969 (#1). As a matter of fact, the Stones kept Johnny Cash from having a #1 pop hit with A Boy Named Sue. 2. Keep Your Hands To Yourself-Bocephus toured with the Georgia Satellites in 1987. This was their biggest pop hit (#2). 3. Thanks A Lot-Another remake here. This one was done by Ernest Tubb in 1963 (#3). Williams and Tubb got together in 1983 with Waylon Jennings on Leave Them Boys Alone (#6). Tubb died the following year at age 70. Wild Streak was next. The gold chart topping CD yielded If The South Woulda Won (1988-#8) and Early In The Morning And Late At Night (1989-#14). Between those records, two major events took place: 1. Williams teamed up with Johnny Cash on That Old Wheel (1988-#21). 2. Williams won C.M.A. Awards for Album of the Year for Born To Boogie and Entertainer of the Year. A greatest hits CD was released in 1989. Two new songs became hits (both 1989): There's A Tear In My Beer-with Hank Williams, Sr. (#7) and Finders Are Keepers (#6). Hank kept releasing CDs during the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. His last CD is Old School New Rules from 2012 and his last chart appearance occurred in 2009 with Red, White & Pink Slip Blues (#43). This is what the chart looked like back then:

Woah, I didn't expect to see that. The power of Bobby Bones. Two spins on his morning show and it has enough AI to chart in the top 60!! Why couldn't he have given a couple of spins to something like "The Way I'm Living" or "Home" instead?

Agree 100% about 'The Way I'm Living', absolutely the best song out there that hardly anybody is playing.

1. LADY A SERVES #1: Lady Antebellum score their ninth #1 this week with Bartender. It is the lead single to their upcoming CD, 747. They start this CD like they did their last on a chart topping note. Their last, Golden started with a #1 in 2013 called Downtown. 2. HIS 33RD: Kenny Chesney is at #2 this week with American Kids, the lead single from his upcoming CD, The Big Revival. This is his 33rd top two hit (22 #1s and 11 #2s). Last week, Tim McGraw tallied his 33rd top two hit with Meanwhile Back At Mama's (#2). 3. THE SECOND TIME: For the second time in her career, Miranda Lambert starts a CD with two top tens. She does so this week as Somethin' Bad, her duet with Carrie Underwood goes up four to #10. It is the second single from her Platinum CD and the follow up to Automatic (#3). Her previous CD, Four The Record started with Baggage Claim (#3) and Over You (#1-both in 2012). 4. HOMEGROWN FAST: Darius Rucker has the fastest climbing song of the week as Homegrown Honey moves nine to #42. 5. GOING FOR THREE: Joe Nichols makes his third chart appearance as a Red Bow artist with Hard To Be Cool at #53. His first two singles reached the top: Sunny And 75 from 2013 and Yeah, his biggest hit from this year. 6. POP GOES COUNTRY: Pop artist Ed Sheeran makes his country debut at #59 with Don't. 7. SOME CD NEWS: Here are some CDs making their debuts on the chart: 1. Ignite The Night by Chase Rice-After selling 44,000 copies during its first week, Rice lands his first #1 CD. 2. At #2 is the tribute CD to Motley Crue, Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Motley Crue. It sold 30,000 last week. 3. A Johnny Cash tribute CD lands at #23 called Look Again To The Wind: Johnny Cash's Bitter Tears Revisited. 8. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping hits in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Big Green Tractor-Jason Aldean-Broken Bow 2004: Live Like You Were Dying-Tim McGraw-Curb 1999: Amazed-Lonestar-BNA 1994: Whisper My Name-Randy Travis-Warner Bros. 1989: I Wonder Do You Think Of Me-Keith Whitley-RCA 9. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Keith Urban ended a three year drought of #1 hits six years ago this week. When he did, it was off his first greatest hits CD. When he did, it was a new recording of a song that was six years old. It was You Look Good In My Shirt. You Look Good In My Shirt first appeared on Urban's 2002 CD, Golden Road. That CD produced a quartet of top five hits. They are: 1. Somebody Like You-2002-#1-chart wise, his biggest hit 2. Raining On Sunday-2003-#3 3. Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me-2003-#1 4. You'll Think Of Me-2004-#1 At the time, You Look Good In My Shirt charted as an album cut in 2004 (#60). It was supposed to be the fifth single from the Golden Road CD. However, a new CD came out called Be Here and a lead single, Days Go By topped the chart in 2004. Three years later, a greatest hits CD emerged called Greatest Hits: 18 Kids (later 19 Kids with You Look Good In My Shirt added). This is the track listing of the CD: 1. Romeo's Tune 2. Got It Right This Time 3. I Told You So-2007-#2 4. Stupid Boy-2007-#3 5. Better Life-2005-#1 6. Making Memories Of Us-2005-#1 7. Once In A Lifetime-2006-#6 8. Tonight I Wanna Cry-2006-#2 9. You're My Better Half-2005-#2 10. Days Go By-2004-#1 11. But For The Grace Of God-2001-#1 12. You'll Think Of Me-2004-#1 13. Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me-2003-#1 14. Raining On Sunday-2003-#3 15. Where The Blacktop Ends-2001-#3 16. Your Everything-2000-#4 17. Somebody Like You-2002-#1 18. Everybody-2008-#5 19. You Look Good In My Shirt-2008-#1 Urban decided to rerecord You Look Good In My Shirt in 2008 and place it on the already released hits CD (thus the name change from 18 Kids to 19 Kids). Released in June, it climbed all the way to the top in September becoming his eighth #1 hit and first since 2005's Better Life (his second biggest hit). Urban shared chart space with Brad Paisley's Waitin' On A Woman (see chart below) which was first recorded for his Time Well Wasted CD. This time, the single was rerecorded and placed on the second edition of his 5th Gear CD. It is appropriate for BOTH artists to get together for their next hit, Start A Band (#1 in 2009 off the Play CD by Paisley). In the meantime, Urban released his Defying Gravity CD in 2009. Sweet Thing was the first single and that topped the chart seven weeks after Start A Band hit the top. Kiss A Girl peaked at #3 while Only You Can Love Me This Way became his eleventh chart topper. Right after Only You Can Love Me This Way peaked, Billboard awarded Urban the following: 1. Urban was named Country Singles Artist of the Year. 2. Somebody Like You was named the biggest hit of the decade. Two more releases, 'Til Summer Comes Around peaked at #3 and I'm In hit #2 (both 2010). The Defying Gravity era ended. Get Closer was released in 2010. Four top two hits were produced: 1. Put You In A Song-2011-#2 2. Without You-2011-#1 3. Long Hot Summer-2011-#1 4. You Gonna Fly-2012-#1 Urban contributed to the Act Of Valor soundtrack with his offering, For You (#6 in 2012). He got back to releasing a CD in Fuse in 2013. So far, three top tens have been produced: 1. Little Bit Of Everything-2013-#1 2. We Were Us-with Miranda Lambert-2013-#1 3. Cop Car-2014-#8 A fourth single has been released, Somewhere In My Car. Because You Look Good In My Shirt is on Golden Road, I consider the CD one of 34 in country music history with a quartet of chart toppers. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 6, 2008: 1. YOU LOOK GOOD IN MY SHIRT-KEITH URBAN-CAPITOL 2. I Still Miss You-Keith Anderson-Columbia 3. Waitin' On A Woman-Brad Paisley-Arista 4. Do You Believe Me Now-Jimmy Wayne-Valory 5. Should've Said No-Taylor Swift-Big Machine 6. Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven-Kenny Chesney and the Wailers-BNA 7. Don't Think I Don't Think About It-Darius Rucker-Capitol 8. Troubadour-George Strait-MCA 9. She Never Cried In Front Of Me-Toby Keith-Show Dog 10. All Summer Long-Kid Rock-Atlantic

Country Airplay *** No. 1 (1 week)*** "American Kids" Kenny Chesney Kenny Chesney scores his 23rd Country Airplay No. 1, and first in more than two years, as "American Kids" kicks 2-1. He'd last reigned with "Come Over" for two weeks in August 2012. Dating to his first week at the summit (Aug. 30, 1997), with "She's Got It All," he extends his mark for the most No. 1s among all acts. Tim McGraw ranks second in that span with 21 toppers, followed by Brad Paisley (18).
Debut/Greatest Gainer No. 19 "People Loving People" Garth Brooks Debut No. 51 "Shotgun Rider" Tim McGraw

1. AN AMERICAN #1: Kenny Chesney, for the 23rd time in his career has the top song in country music. This week it is the lead single to his upcoming CD, The Big Revival. The song is American Kids and it ends a two year drought at the top for Chesney as Come Over from 2012 was his previous chart topper. In the meantime, he did well with these hits: 1. El Cerrito Place-2013-#10 2. Pirate Flag-2013-#3 3. When I See This Bar-2013-#14 2. GARTH'S BACK: Debuting at #19 this week is this year's most anticipated release, People Loving People by Garth Brooks. This is his debut single for RCA Records. This is his fourth time starting in the top twenty following: 1. The Thunder Rolls-1991-#19 2. Good Ride Cowboy-2005-#18 3. More Than A Memory-2007-#1 4. People Loving People-2014-#19 This is also the fourth highest debut of the year following: 1. Dirt-Florida Georgia Line-#16 2. Neon Light-Blake Shelton-#18 3. Burnin' It Down-Jason Aldean-#19 4. People Loving People-Garth Brooks-#19 3. STORMING FAST: Brad Paisley has the fastest climbing song of the week as Perfect Storm takes a lightning size jump to #43 from #52. 4. #1 MOONSHINE: Brad Paisley debuts on the country albums chart at #1 with his current CD, Moonshine In The Trunk after 53,000 were sold. 5. #1 CDS: These were the top selling CDs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Keep On Loving You-Reba McEntire-Valory 2004: Live Like You Were Dying-Tim McGraw-Curb 1999: Come On Over-Shania Twain-Mercury 1994: Not A Moment Too Soon-Tim McGraw-Curb 1989: Sweet Sixteen-Reba McEntire-MCA 6. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Kenny Rogers was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame last year. This year it's Ronnie Milsap's turn. Together, they had the top song in country music 27 years ago this week with Make No Mistake, She's Mine. Make No Mistake, She's Mine went through a sex change. Originally titled Make No Mistake, He's Mine, it was first recorded by Kim Carnes and Barbra Streisand in 1984. It was a hit or miss affair on the charts in 1985. It was a hit on the adult contemporary chart (#8) while being a miss on the pop chart (#51). This is not the first time Carnes' and Rogers' careers intersected. In 1980, Rogers released an album called Gideon. A duet between Rogers and Carnes, Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer was a crossover smash on three charts: country (#3), pop (#4), and A.C. (#2). Four years later, they got back together for another vocal collaboration. This time, James Ingram was added to the mix as What About Me, the title track to Rogers' 1984 album made chart appearances in country (#70), pop (#15), and A.C. (#1-becoming the last of eight chart toppers for Rogers on that chart). In 1987, Rogers and Milsap were preparing their then-current CDs, I Prefer The Moonlight and Heart & Soul, respectively. RCA placed the duet on BOTH artists' CDs. However, the duet was NOT the lead single to the Milsap CD. That belongs to Snap Your Fingers, which hit the top in July. The previous month, Make No Mistake, She's Mine was released and it hit #1 in September (just six weeks after Snap Your Fingers hit the top). The duet became Milsap's 32nd chart topper and Rogers' 20th #1 hit. Rogers released the title track to his CD (which features Carnes as a back up vocalist) and it hit #2 in December. Third single from Heart & Soul, Where Do The Nights Go became a chart topper in January, 1988. Shortly after those records peaked, Milsap and Rogers won a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for the duet. RCA decided to rerelease Heart & Soul with a new duet: Old Folks with Mike Reid. That made its way to #2, unable to dislodge Kathy Mattea's Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses from #1. Rogers was charting with his final RCA single, The Factory (#6). He did chart with his version of I Don't Call Him Daddy (#86) which became a #1 for Doug Supernaw in 1993. Milsap charted a fifth single in Button Off My Shirt (#4). Rogers switched labels in 1988 from RCA to Reprise. His top 40 hits for that label are: 1. When You Put Your Heart In It-1988-#26 2. Planet Texas-1989-#30 3. The Vows Go Unbroken Always True To You-1989-#8 4. If I Ever Fall In Love Again-with Anne Murray-1989-#28-off her second greatest hits CD and his Something Inside So Strong CD 5. Maybe-with Holly Dunn-1990-#25 6. Love Is Strange-with Dolly Parton-1990-#21 7. If You Want To Find Love-1992-#11 Milsap stayed with RCA for another five years. His hits during this time are: 1. Don't You Ever Get Tired Of Hurting Me-1989-#1 2. Houston Solution-1989-#4 3. A Woman In Love-1989-#1 4. Stranger Things Have Happened-1990-#2 5. Are You Lovin' Me Like I'm Lovin' You-1991-#3 6. Since I Don't Have You-1991-#6 7. Turn That Radio On-1992-#4 8. All Is Fair In Love And War-1992-#11 A switch to Liberty Records (after his twenty year stay at RCA ended) yielded Milsap his last to 40 hit, True Believer (#30 in 1993). Rogers started his own Dreamcatcher label in 1998. His top 40s there are: 1. The Greatest-1999-#26 2. Buy Me A Rose-2000-#1 3. He Will, She Knows-2000-#32 4. There You Go Again-2001-#26 5. Homeland-2001-#39 6. Handprints On The Wall-2003-#40 His last major hit, I Can't Unlove You hit #17 in 2006 on Capitol Records (they absorbed his former label, Liberty). Milsap's last chart appearance was back in 2006 with Local Girls (#54-when he reunited with RCA briefly). His last CD was released this year called Summer Number Seventeen. Rogers' last chart appearance happened last year with his duet with Parton, You Can't Make Old Friends (#57). His current CD is a hits package called Ten Great Songs: 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection. Rogers and Milsap are in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I find it ironic that they got together for a #1 duet in 1987 considering Rogers had the first #1 of the decade with Coward Of The County while Milsap finished it off with A Woman In Love. It was just announced that RCA will be releasing EVERY Milsap album in an expansive 21 CD box set. This is what the chart looked like back then:
BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING SEPTEMBER 12, 1987: 1. MAKE NO MISTAKE, SHE'S MINE-KENNY ROGERS AND RONNIE MILSAP-RCA 2. This Crazy Love-Oak Ridge Boys-MCA 3. Three Time Loser-Dan Seals-EMI America 4. You Again-Forester Sisters-Warner Bros. 5. I'll Never Be In Love Again-Don Williams-Capitol 6. The Hand That Rocks The Cradle-Glen Campbell and Steve Wariner-MCA 7. The Way We Make A Broken Heart-Rosanne Cash-Columbia 8. Fishin' In The Dark-Nitty Gritty Dirt Band-Warner Bros. 9. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight-Judy Rodman-MTM 10. I'll Be The One-Statler Brothers-Mercury

I really didn't know where to post this question but I was wondering if someone could post the decade end country singles charts for the 90's and 2000's? I remember Keith Urban's song "Somebody Like You" was the number 1 song of the 2000's but I'd like to see the rest of the chart. Also I'm an avid fan of the 90's era of country music and always have wondered if Billboard released a decade end singles chart for the 90's.

Country Airplay *** No. 1 (1 week)*** "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)" Dustin Lynch Dustin Lynch collects his first Country Airplay No. 1, as "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)" jumps 3-1. Previously, Lynch came closest to the summit with "Cowboys and Angels," his debut single which peaked at No. 2 in October 2012. "Yep" is the lead single and title track from his second album, which was released Sept. 9 and will debut on this week's Top Country Albums chart.
Greatest Gainer No. 7 "Burnin' It Down" Jason Aldean Debut No. 53 "Baby Be My Love Song" Easton Corbin Debut No. 59 "You Are What You Love" Kelleigh Bannen Debut No. 60 "Lay Low" Josh Turner
****BILLBOARD**** It's "Where It's At" NOT, "Where It's At (Yep, Yep)". I swear Billboard is the ONLY chart source saying the title is this, the video for it, heck even the back of the NEW CD says the song is called "Where It's At".

1. LYNCH IS #1, YEP, YEP: Well, after four single releases, Dustin Lynch lands his first chart topping hit with Where It's At Yep, Yep. This is the title track to his current CD. This could have been his second #1 hit had Cowboys And Angels not peaked at #2 in 2012. That was his first single. The two in between were: 1. She Cranks My Tractor-2013-#16 2. Wild In Your Smile-2013-#23 Furthermore, Lynch becomes the third artist on the Broken Bow label with a #1 following Craig Morgan and Jason Aldean. 2. HIS FIFTH, HIS SEVENTH, AND HIS THIRD: At #10 for the week is the vocal collaboration between Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, and Thomas Rhett called Small Town Throwdown. Together, it is their first top ten. As individual artists, it's Gilbert's fifth, Moore's seventh, and Rhett's third. 3. THE SECOND WEEK: For the second week in a row, Brad Paisley's Perfect Storm is the fastest climbing song of the week (#43 to #31). 4. BROOKS IS DOWN, BROOKS IS UP: On the airplay chart, Garth Brooks takes a four point fall to #23 with his latest single, People Loving People. On the albums chart, he is up nine to #24 with his box set, Blame It All On My Roots. 5. #1 HITS: These were the chart topping songs in 2009, 2004, 1999, 1994, and 1989: 2009: Big Green Tractor-Jason Aldean-Broken Bow 2004: Days Go By-Keith Urban-Capitol 1999: You Had Me From Hello-Kenny Chesney-BNA 1994: XXX'S And OOO'S An American Girl-Trisha Yearwood-MCA 1989: Nothing I Can Do About It Now-Willie Nelson-Columbia 6. MILESTONE TOP TEN CHART: Question of the week: How many of you have the 1995 box set by George Strait called Strait Out Of The Box? Good! I have it on cassette, CD, and even eight track (that would be nine eight tracks considering it is a 72 song set). The first three songs of the box set are: 1. I Just Can't Go On Dying Like This 2. That Don't Change The Way I Feel About You 3. I Don't Want To Talk It Over Anymore Not only were those songs recorded by Strait during the late 1970s on D Records, but they were written by him as well. Fast forward three decades and Strait, as a superstar in the music business scores his first hit as a songwriter with Living For The Night, our #2 song from just five years ago this week. Are you still looking at the box set? Good! Scan disc one and you will find another Strait-penned song called I Can't See Texas From Here (song #11). That came from his second MCA album called Strait From The Heart (1982). That album yielded the following hits: 1. Fool Hearted Memory-1982-#1 2. Marina Del Rey-1983-#6 3. Amarillo By Morning-1983-#4 4. A Fire I Can't Put Out-1983-#1 Sitting as an album cut is his version of Heartbroke, a #1 hit for Ricky Skaggs in 1982. Twenty-six years later, Strait started to get the 'songwriters itch' to write again. That year, he released his Troubadour CD which yielded the following hits: 1. I Saw God Today-2008-#1 2. Troubadour-2008-#7 3. River Of Love-2009-#1-to date, his last chart topping hit During the chart run of River Of Love, two major events took place: 1. Strait won his first Grammy Award for Best Country Album for Troubadour. 2. Strait was picked as Artist of the Decade by the A.C.M.. During this time, Strait, George Strait, Jr. ('Bubba'), and Dean Dillon decided to write some songs together. To say Dillon has contributed to the Strait hit parade would be an understatement. Here is the complete list of hits Dillon has wrote for Strait (some are co-writes): 1. Unwound-1981-#6 2. Down And Out-1981-#16 3. Marina Del Rey-1983-#6 4. The Chair-1985-#1 5. Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her-1986-#1-also a #25 hit for Dillon in 1981 6. It Ain't Cool To Be Crazy About You-1986-#1 7. Ocean Front Property-1987-#1 8. Famous Last Words Of A Fool-1988-#1-also a #67 hit for Dillon in 1983 9. I've Come To Expect It From You-1990-#1 10. If I Know Me-1991-#1 11. Easy Come, Easy Go-1993-#1 12. Lead On-1995-#7 13. The Best Day-2000-#1 14. She Let Herself Go-2006-#1 15. Living For The Night-2009-#2 16. The Breath You Take-2011-#6 17. Drinkin' Man-2012-#37 18. I Believe-2013-#50 It was time to release a new CD in 2009. Titled Twang, here is the track listing with songwriter credits: 1. Twang-Jimmy Ritchey, Kendall Marvel, and Jim Lauderdale 2. Where Have I Been All My Life-Steve Williams, Wil Nance, and Sherrie Austin 3. I Gotta Get To You-Blaine Larsen, Ritchey, and Lauderdale 4. Easy As You Go-Rick Giles and Steve Bogard 5. Living For The Night-George Strait, Bubba Strait, and Dean Dillon 6. Some Kind Of Crazy-Gary Nicholson and Delbert McClinton 7. Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind-George and Bubba Strait 8. Arkansas Dave-Bubba Strait 9. The Breath You Take-Casey Beathard, Dillon, and Jessie Jo Dillon 10. He's Got That Something Special-George and Bubba Strait and Dillon 11. Hot Grease And Zydeco-Tony Ramey and Gordon Bradberry 12. Beautiful Day For Goodbye-Doug Johnson and Pat Bunch 13. El Rey-Jose Alfredo Jimenez As you can see, George wrote three songs for the CD while his son wrote four. Living For The Night was tapped as the lead single. Released in May (during Strait's 57th birthday), it debuted at #34. Taking fifteen week to hit #2, it looked like Strait was going to get the 45th #1 of his career and tenth of the decade. Not so. Strait peaked there for two weeks while Jason Aldean spent his third and fourth weeks at the top with his biggest hit, Big Green Tractor. Living For The Night became Strait's seventh #2 hit. The title track was next and it kicked off Strait's 2010 on a #14 note. I Gotta Get To You was the third single. Written by Larsen, best known for his hit, How Do You Get That Lonely (#18 in 2005), it peaked at #3, giving Strait 30 consecutive years of top tens (1981-2010). The era ended with The Breath You Take. It took 22 weeks to hit the top ten and it peaked at #6 in 2011. Twang gave way to Here For A Good Time in 2011. Surprise, George kept writing. He has seven songs on this CD that he wrote (with Bubba, Dillon, and/or Bobby Boyd). The title track was first and that was written by the Straits and Dillon. Released in June, it found a home at #2 for a week. Love's Gonna Make It Alright, not written by George peaked at #3 in 2012. The era closed on a dud as Drinkin' Man peaked at #37, becoming his worst performing single to date. It should be noted that by the time Here For A Good Time (the CD) ran its course, George became a grandfather for the first time. It was during this time he announced a farewell tour called The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. His current CD is called Love Is Everything. George has four songs on this CD while Bubba has three. One of those is found on the box set, a rerecording of I Just Can't Go On Dying Like This. A non-Strait song, Give It All We Got Tonight became the ninth #2 hit (it took 29 weeks to get there) of his career which became his first platinum selling single. That was followed by the George/Bubba/Dillon tune, I Believe which peaked at #50, his worst showing on the charts. He rebounded nicely with the third and final single, I Got A Car (#17 from this year). Strait is the current reigning C.M.A. and A.C.M. Entertainer of the Year. A live CD was released this week called The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium. This is what the chart looked like back then:
