Meh, it's just a song that NO ONE I've seen talks about or listens to. While songs like Havana, New Rules, Finesse, Nice For What, Rockstar etc just felt like they had such a bigger presence socially and in terms of hits that defined the year

Have you not listened to radio this year? I mean...who listens to radio these days Aux cords and Spotify is the go to way for music nowadays A lot of people still listen to the radio. Hence why "Girls Like You" is #1. I actually prefer it to some degree. Spotify is just a giant chamber that leaves little room for discovery.

Has it ever happened where a song was on the year end list for 3 years in a row and if not, do you guys think it's possible in the future? I feel like Mr Brightside would have done this in the UK, it's charted like every year since its release. edit: It was on the year end for 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2017. It actually charted higher than Look What You Made Me Do !

South Korea had it for three years on their international singles chart. Japan (Japan Hot 100) - 2012: #9 2013: #18 2016: #99 South Korea (Gaon International Singles) - 2012: #9 2013: #1 2014: #32

MTB in no way feels like the 3rd biggest song of the year Havana, Finesse, Rockstar, basically most of the top 15 felt much bigger and memorable. Also Its tragic that Gods Plan is #1, I never liked it However, Nice For What & In My Feelings are bops tbh The main reason it will be in that position in the Year-End Hot 100 is its longevity. It will have charted 49 out of the 53 weeks that count toward it. No song among those you mentioned comes even close in that regard, even though I do agree they had bigger point peaks than MTB had.

Even if you include full chart runs of any songs that peaked in 2018, MTB will still be in the top 5. It just stayed near the very top of the charts without reaching #1 for a loooong time.
It was huge in Pop, HAC and Country. That's a difficult combination, but when it's achieved, you get a big position on the year end chart: Islands In the Stream, Amazed, Love Song, and the biggest winner in that category, How Do I Live.
It's the one song's position fhas & I agree on in the top 5.

Yeah I heard it a lot but the song felt more like a song that would be in the 31-40 range at best on the YE

No, I'm aware of it's chart performance and how well it's done in comparison to the other songs It just doesn't FEEL right imo but hey it's the hot 100 in 2018 what does feel right about it?

Idk about you but I heard that song constantly, it was on every station. Pop, AC, Country. You couldn't escape it, I mean I haven't heard it much in the last five months, but I definitely couldn't escape it during the first half of the year.

The last song to have more spins than Meant to Be was Happy in 2014. That should tell you how big of a song it was.

So looks like High Hopes is just on the edge of the Top 20... Unfortunately it looks like it's gonna come JUST short in the end and then get caught between years. That is unless it does what New Rules did and refuse to die.

I can take High Hopes missing this year, as likely it won't have enough points to do so. But I have high high hopes (pun intended) for it to enter the 2019 YE.

Don't get the appeal of the screamfest that "High Hopes" is. Hope it misses both years.

At the rate High Hopes is gaining on radio, and if the sales and streams stay where theyโre at I could see it maybe going to the top 10 in a few weeks so I think itโll stick around and make the 2019 YE.

The fact that weโre talking about a Panic song going top 10... Have I been sucked into a time warp back to my elementary school days? I wonder what other early to mid-2000s one hit wonders we can dig up?
