She's changed a lot tho. (Musically and aesthetically)
She went from pin up 50s glamor to casual.
She went from Hip - Hop influenced to Rock.
She went from Lolita to A clockwork orange.
She'll come up with something else for her next era I'm sure.

I am bored with the looks/designs for this era. Everything about her last two "eras" or whatever you want to call it was striking and this is just meh. But, ultimately if the cd rocks I don't care.

Ok I'm so late on her. But idc. I listened to both Born To Die and Paradise a couple of weeks ago, and they both slay. I'm obssessed with "Gods & Monsters" right now <3. I really like "West Coast" too, so I hope this upcoming album is as good as her first album and EP!

"Shades of Cool is a slow/mid-tempo waltzy rock song with an amazing, epic, thundering electric guitar dominated bridge." LDROMy body is ready.

Her vocals sound a bit too loud, but it sounds decent.

...8(
I was bored. It sounds like adult Disney. I did like the bridge, but not enough to wade through the rest to get to it.

The lyrics are kind of basic. lol "My baby lives in shades of blue, Blue eyes and jazz and attitude. He lives in California too, he drives a Chevy Malibu."But i really loved the melody, it's like a Black Beauty's sister. Edit:// It sounds even better in iTunes quality :'( :'(

I was really hopefully for this album, but it seems like she really is a one trick pony.

I was really hopefully for this album, but it seems like she really is a one trick pony. I don't get comments like these. If an artist finds a niche that works and proves successful for them, what makes you think they're going to go the route of reckless abandon and do something completely different? Can you name any artist who has ever done that (at least, this early in their career)? I mean, she's already played with her style a bit compared to the first record. What were you expecting, EDM?

I'm not saying she should completely change her style. What I meant was that she's not showing any growth in her style either musically or lyrically. It's not about changing everything, it's about showing that you are growing as an artist.

I guess we'll agree to disagree then, because what I've heard so far sounds like a perfectly natural, although gradual, progression.

Ultraviolence is shaping up to be a Lizzy Grant on steroids ie. nothing like Born To Die.

BTD was all hip hop beats meet industrial 50s/60s. What we've heard so far from Ultraviolence is far more psychedelic 70s grooves and organic stylings...To me at least. Which seems as natural and authentic a step as she should or could make in one album.

I was at her show on Sunday night, and it was such an amazing experience. You really "get" her by seeing her live. I really disliked her setlist, but I was too baked to really care. West Coast sounds incredible live, and Ultraviolence sounds like it's going to be a favorite song of mine.

Cruel World Cola Body Electric Blue Jeans West Coast Born to Die Young and Beautiful Ultraviolence Carmen Gods & Monsters Summertime Sadness Million Dollar Man Ride Video Games National Anthem Despite being a huge fan of her music, I literally have never seen any performance videos of her, and didn't know which songs she usually performs. By chance, she didn't do any of my four favorites (This Is What Makes Us Girls, Off To The Races, Dark Paradise & Without You), but she was still great and the venue was super cool. The lyrics to Ultraviolence are pretty intense too. "Daddy hit me and I hid like a child" or something along those lines is the in the chorus.
